bitjunkie, do games w Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version

I never actually “paid” them, so they “cannot complain” when I take my money back

glitchdx, do games w 6 years and 1 prolonged delay later, Xbox is still calling "incredible" Hollow Knight: Silksong one of its "upcoming games"

are they still working on it? yes? then it will come out when it comes out. There’s enough content in my backlog to keep me occupied for another 5 years at least, and more new games release every day. I can wait.

intensely_human, do games w Deep Rock Galactic roguelike dev says innovation for innovation's sake is too expensive to survive: "We're a studio of 50 people with bills to pay"

I would pay $10 a month (ongoing, MRR) to be able to fly their home base ship to different asteroids and occasionally have the bugs invade it. I would play the fuck out of that game.

nuko147, do games w Valve "followed" 1.7 million Steam users for over a year, and now reports those gamers spent $20 million on microtransactions and another $73 million on games and DLC
@nuko147@lemm.ee avatar

From their report report :

[ For years we’ve seen an encouraging pattern. Hit new releases are excellent at generating new first-time purchasers, and we’ve tried to build many platform features to encourage those new users to stick around, find more great games, and play with friends. To gather data illustrating the effectiveness of that approach, we went all the way back to 2023 and identified the biggest 20 releases of that year. We looked at every new first-time purchaser generated by those products (that is, an account making a purchase, or redeeming a Steam key, for the first time) for a total of 1.7 million new users. Then we followed that cohort of new users. The stats below represent what those players did from January 2024 through early March 2025.

That cohort of players has gone on to spend $20 million on in-game transactions across hundreds of other games—plus another $73 million on premium games and DLC across thousands more products. ]

So they are not average gamers, more like new blood in steam, and the numbers are for money they spent additional after the reason they came to steam.

@wavebeam@lemmy.world avatar

just did the math, I’ve averaged about $165/yr on steam, with very little (though not none) microtransactions. like maybe less than $50 total in 15 years.

Venator,

I think I probably have a similar average on my 18 yr old account, except the only microtransactions on my account are credits from selling any hats, skins and duplicate weapons I unlocked for free in TF2 and CS 😅

Ephera, do games w Pokemon Legends Z-A's visuals aren't "great" say former Nintendo marketing leads, but hope Switch 2 could allow Game Freak to "go back to the drawing board"

Damn, the buildings in that screenshot do look like the terrible assets you got in simulator games ten years ago…

Don_alForno, do games w Obsidian's new first-person RPG Avowed channels Baldur's Gate 3 in one key way: "The core of RPGs that makes them special is missable content"

The core of. ©RPGs that makes them special is the feeling that you decide what’s going to happen or at least that your choices have an effect on the world. That’s the core appeal of TTRPGs and it doesn’t change for video games.

MystikIncarnate, do games w Randy Pitchford releases the most valuable shift code ever at PAX.

I want to go back and play through the whole series again, but the nuances of the older games that were fixed in the more recent games always throws me.

I play on PC and it’s very very obvious that kb/mouse was an afterthought for some of the games… I just hate doing fps with a joystick/thumbstick.

Either way, I’ve redeemed this for all of my copies of Borderlands. So the next time I log in, I should have golden keys for days.

ElectroLisa,

Which ones exactly? BL2 doesn’t look/feel like it’s kb/m support was an afterthought

wirelesswire,

It’s mostly noticeable in the menus for BL2. Navigating with a mouse is kinda jank, where it is much snappier when using keys.

Kecessa,

Oh yeah, menus in Borderlands are shit

ElectroLisa,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

oh those, yes they’re annoying, especially switching tabs

MystikIncarnate,

Definitely menus.

Most of the run/gun aspects are very similar regardless of which Borderlands game you’re playing.

BL3 was by far the best for menus. Not perfect, but a lot less cumbersome than the previous games.

Thanks! About 5 hours into a new playthrough of BL2 with my wife, so this is awesome!

Just got back to BL3 this week so I appreciate this

Jezebelley,

You’re very welcome!

Zoidsberg, do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"
@Zoidsberg@lemmy.ca avatar

The other part of this decision is just that if we made it so that you can free-aim and shoot from the speeder then we’d also have to then make the speeder drive nicely when you’re not looking forward, which is actually a really hard thing

  • Fredrik Thylander, lead gameplay designer

Is this guy for real?

aStonedSanta,

It’s pretty shit on controller to have to drive and aim at the same time. Keyboard also has its issues as you only have wasd for movement.

luciferofastora,

I mean, go ahead and implement it if you think “That’s pretty hard to do, so we opted not to put significant development resources into one feature” is a poor excuse. If the team is working under pressure already, they’ll have to prioritise and I assume this got shoved down the lst.

Mango,

I just got it, so I guess I’ll find out.

Tarogar, do games w EA flop Immortals of Aveum reportedly cost around $125 million, former dev says "a AAA single-player shooter in today's market was a truly awful idea"

“potential customer hears about product for the first time after it’s announced a flop”

I mean, a single player FPS… Oh it’s an EA game we are talking about! NEVERMIND.

Whenever I saw that game it looked like a generic, soulless, made-by-committee shooter… All footage had strong tech demo vibes. The only thing I can remember about it is „the guns looked kinda weird.“
