supersquirrel, do games w Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version

Fuck Ubisoft.

If you want a good open world racing game, well Motor Town: Behind The Wheel isn’t strictly a racing game… nor technically even focused on being a racing game, it is an open world driving job simulator and there are lots of sports cars and you can do lots of jobs where you are racing against a clock.

There is also multiplayer and a custom race system (as well as actual race tracks interspersed in the world).

The reason I really recommend it though is the driving feels better then just about any other game I have ever played, especially tire grip modelling. I don’t know how to describe it other than it makes me uninterested in driving cars in most other games lol.

Anything you buy on Steam is also not owned by you, you only buy the rights to play their game for as long as they allow you to. Just like with Ubisoft.

supersquirrel,

That is exactly why I also buy things on Good Old Games and also play open source games like Beyond All Reason, Xonotic, Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead, Luanti and other games like Vintage Story that I can purchase from itch or directly from the developer and install directly on my computer as well!

CalipherJones, do games w Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version

Good reminder to never buy an Ubisoft game.

SaharaMaleikuhm,

Their games have sucked for a long time anyways

Blackmist, do games w Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version

That’s one of the many reasons why I never bought it.

The best part is they havent made a compelling game in 10 years. So i wont buy a game of them ever again either way. Its an easy life tbh.

LucidNightmare, do games w MMO scholar puts a $500 bounty on old versions of RuneScape as part of a community archive project: "You might have ALL of the game's lost versions!"

I know it’s not the old school version they’re after (I believe they’re going for RuneScape 1?) but 2009scape exists for anyone else interested. Fully playable offline in single player mode, with bots as other “players”, plenty of options like GE buying and selling for the bots, and others. You can also play with other real players by using the launcher too, but I’ve only tried it in single player due to me just trying to scratch that RuneScape itch! Haha!

Here is the official website. They’ve recently moved their project off of GitHub and now host it on Gitlab.

finitebanjo, do games w The creator of upcoming life sim Inzoi says he was "recklessly brave to even think about creating a game of this scale"

Is it gonna be similar to second life or something?

Chozo,
@Chozo@fedia.io avatar

I believe it's supposed to be more of a spiritual successor to The Sims.

finitebanjo,

Depending on the monetization scheme that might be a nice change of pace.

I wonder which game mechanics of the sims titles are patented as of today.

tonytins,
@tonytins@pawb.social avatar

Seems more like Sims 3-style, but if you cranked up the graphics up to 11.

The Sims 3: K-Pop Stuff Pack.

WhatYouNeed, do games w Valve adds "all the Team Fortress 2 client and server game code" to its Source mod tools, letting modders "build completely new games based on TF2" and publish them on Steam

narc0tic_bird, do games w Hideo Kojima seems to be testing Death Stranding 2, but it's not going well: "I fell asleep twice while on a delivery and ran the vehicle into a cliff"

I actually fell asleep playing the original, so…

(not hating on the game, it literally happened though)

stardust, do gaming w Popular Female Skyrim Modder Has Abandoned Her Work Due to Daily Harrassment

I think gaming is too mainstream like television/movie viewers to lump it into some type of niche group/activity these days. Especially with the increased communication and connectivity that the internet provides that brings all sorts of wanted and unwanted people together.

I’m someone who enjoys gaming, and when I play games like The Finals these days I disable chat/voice because most people are assholes. Game previously didn’t have chat and enabling that turned it from what felt like a wholesome community because I wasn’t exposed to their thoughts to it breaking the illusion when they were able to express themselves.

I think this is more a more broad societal issue and a worrying one of being shown what people truly think. Even a minority is a huge amount when the population is billions, so a lot of damage can be done. Games is just another avenue they choose to be toxic in along side other vehicles provided to communicate their thoughts.

Incels/“gamers” harassing a woman - shocker.

HeroHelck, do games w Sony boss admits forcing PC gamers into PlayStation accounts can "invite pushback," but insists they have to keep games safe – which doesn't really track in single-player

This isn’t going to stop, just have to hope enough consumers have the wherewithal to say no to this sort of thing.

stardust, do games w After 11 years, Xbox One emulators are finally coming to PC - but they're not actually using emulation at all

Hopefully I’ll get to finally play Gears of War 2.

ABCDE,

Isn’t it all on game pass?

Blxter,

KingThrillgore, do games w Doom: The Dark Ages is introducing big changes to combat because id Software came to one core realization: "Every projectile mattered in the original Doom"
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

I gotta keep it real with you: Nothing about the trailer looks interesting to me. My viewpoints on Doom are pretty colored due to Mick Gordon’s claims and the poor combat and traversal loops in Eternal.

At least its not Doom 3 all over again.

Tyfud,

Looking at the trailer and reading the article, it’s clear they’re going back to the doom 1 roots with the way the projectiles feel like it’s a 2D top down shooter.

That’s the way it’s supposed to feel imo, and I dig the direction they’re heading and the combat definitely felt like oldschool 2D top down shooters were supposed to feel: Dodge everything, never stop firing.

Blackmist, do games w EA flop Immortals of Aveum reportedly cost around $125 million, former dev says "a AAA single-player shooter in today's market was a truly awful idea"

I had to look up a video to realise this wasn’t the “I guess that’s something I do now” game.

Looks like a confusing mess of a game tbh. When a game’s failure is blamed on it being released close to fucking Starfield, you know it never had much going for it.

yamanii, do games w EA flop Immortals of Aveum reportedly cost around $125 million, former dev says "a AAA single-player shooter in today's market was a truly awful idea"
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

It was flawed from the start, clearly people that love COD and magic aren’t that big of an intersection, also like people said already the magic acted more like guns and they had a pretty dumb system of calling it by their colors.

Still looked fun though, but I would never pay the asking price for it.
