Just reduce accuracy while in a vehicle?

L0rdMathias, do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"

Perfect example of how hopelessly out of touch these suits are. Normal humans see a speeder and think “oh nice, hoverbike thing that’s sweet”. These executives watch the movie, see that the bikes are used sparingly pretty much only during chase scenes and think “oh chase scene, that’s what people love about speeder bikes, the chase scene.”

Why the fuck theme it around bounty hunters then?

TallonMetroid,
@TallonMetroid@lemmy.world avatar

Are they actually bounty hunters? The trailer made it seem like they were gladiators competing in a blood sport league.

Alexstarfire,

Does that change the ridiculousness in this statement?

TallonMetroid,
@TallonMetroid@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe not this specific statement, but I think it certainly highlights that everything about the game in general has been kind of a mess.

Devdogg,

That’s a different game called Star Wars Hunter.

Lightor,

It’s around Kay, who is a scoundrel , not a bounty hunter. VERY different.

Melonpoly,

One of the definitions of scoundrel is “A wicked or evil person; someone who dies evil deliberately.” Bounty hunters can be scoundrels too.

If Key was an actual scoundrel it would’ve made the game much more entertaining. The unconfident scrawny teenager Kay is now doesn’t fit in with the outlaw world at all.

Lightor,

You’re using the dictionary definition and ignoring Star Wars established lore and terms.

starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Scoundrel

And she very much fits the mold of a Scoundrel. Have you ever watched Star Wars lol?

Melonpoly, (edited )

I see, I didn’t know that the word meant something different in Star Wars.

And yes I have.

Why does being a scoundrel excuse not having the option to shoot from a speeder?

Lightor,

I doesn’t really, I know they explained why they made the choice. Dunno if I %100 agree with it but playing the game it doesn’t feel like that big of an issue, for me at least.

My point was more to say that she wasn’t a bounty hunter. A BH might be more aggressive and lean into combat more, where a Scoundrel is going to try to use tricks, smooth talking etc.

Melonpoly,

Fair enough, thanks

@Zoidsberg@lemmy.ca avatar

The other part of this decision is just that if we made it so that you can free-aim and shoot from the speeder then we’d also have to then make the speeder drive nicely when you’re not looking forward, which is actually a really hard thing

  • Fredrik Thylander, lead gameplay designer

Is this guy for real?

aStonedSanta,

It’s pretty shit on controller to have to drive and aim at the same time. Keyboard also has its issues as you only have wasd for movement.

luciferofastora,

I mean, go ahead and implement it if you think “That’s pretty hard to do, so we opted not to put significant development resources into one feature” is a poor excuse. If the team is working under pressure already, they’ll have to prioritise and I assume this got shoved down the lst.

Eggyhead, do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"

I figured there was enough already to complain about, but if this is now what we’re complaining about, I start to think the game isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be.

PunchingWood, (edited )

It really isn’t a bad game.

I’m 7 hours in and having a blast (pun intended). It’s an alright game if you’re not into SW, it’s an awesome game if you are. Reminds me a lot of Hogwarts Legacy, the game didn’t bring anythinbg new to the market, but it’s fun if you’re into the theme.

There have been a few technical difficulties but nothing as bad as games I played before, which got much higher ratings and didn’t get blasted for it as hard as people do with this game.

People just really let their hate for Ubisoft take over and jump on that social bandwagon for internet points, even though the game plays barely like any other Ubisoft game I’ve played in the past 30 years.

I bet later today Metacritic user reviews will be flooded with people who haven’t even played the game and just base their entire opinion on a few buggy game clips.

Melonpoly,

Why do you assume that any bad review is from someone who hasn’t played the game? People are allowed to have negative opinions just as much as people are allowed to have positive ones.

Just because you are enjoying the game doesn’t mean that everyone else has to too.

PunchingWood,

I never said I assume that every bad review is from someone who hasn’t played.

But you can’t ignore the insane amount of hate Ubisoft is getting for the most insignificant non-issues just because they’re Ubisoft. It takes like a few seconds to notice how the troll armies are linking stuff from various clickbait YouTubers and streamers on social media, and no doubt a vast majority of negative feedback is coming from there.

I’m not ignoring the legit issues this game has, because they are definitely present. And I’m doing my part in reporting them to Ubisoft, instead of making trollposts about it on social media, so we can all enjoy a better game. Sadly that isn’t part of the majority’s crusade against Ubisoft, they’re just out there farming internet points, banking on the circlejerk hate.

I can almost guarantee that the upcoming Metacritic user reviews are a prime example of “Hue hue Ubisoft bad”.

Melonpoly,

Why do you feel the need to defend a large company from a negative image that they have created for themselves?

PunchingWood,

I’m not defending a large company.

I’m expressing my enjoyment of this game. I do not care what company is behind it.

The problem lies with the people that let their entire opinions be molded by the large company behind it.

Melonpoly,

So are you fine with people not enjoying the game if it’s got nothing to do with Ubisoft? Because a lot of the reviews are just that.

PunchingWood,

It takes only a minute to check on Metacritic what the majority of negative reviews are about.

There are a few legit ones, but most are just trashtalking Ubisoft. Or saying horsecrap like “looks like PS3 games”, which it clearly doesn’t. Or every positive review is “paid by Ubisoft”, and people even complaining about it being a woke political agenda, fucking lmao.

I strongly doubt these trolls even installed the game.

Melonpoly,

Most? Have you read all 600+ negative reviews?

Ubisoft has clearly made a name for itself by making mediocre content and this game has only reinforced that image but being upset about that is wrong apparently.

The game clearly doesn’t appeal to the majority of players and that makes you upset. Blaming the “ubisoft haters” or the “anti woke” just sounds like you’re trying to find a convenient scapegoat for why the game isn’t doing well. If the game was good people would play it regardless of who the publisher is.

Lightor,

Honestly, about 5 hours in and I love it. More depth than I expected. Actual stealth with multiple mechanics around it. The gang rep system. It’s great. I have mixed feelings on Kay as a person, but I’m curious to see where it goes.

Fun fact, you can still shoot on the speeder once you fill your adrenaline by driving a bit crazy, then you do a red dead slow down, target selection style shooting.

NutWrench, do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"
@NutWrench@lemmy.zip avatar

The point of an RPG, especially one that involves shooting is you let the player pick their own moral take on how to play the game. You don’t choose FOR them.

Put real consequences in the game if the players choices actually matter. Don’t nerf the game mechanics for no reason.

PunchingWood, (edited ) do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"

Frankly it’s not even a big deal. There is still the special ability that lets you shoot multiple targets like Red Dead, but I basically never use it.

I don’t really got the impression that the main character is the kind that does random ghetto drive-bys from a speeder.

MeaanBeaan, do gaming w Star Wars Outlaws doesn't let you free aim and fire from your speeder because Massive didn't want you to "feel as if you can ride in and assault people"

So? That’s literally how game design works.

Feels like they’re advertising Borderlands IP hard recently,

Jezebelley,

They just announced Borderlands 4, so I think they’re trying their best to get past the movie failure.

Red_October,

And they should. They want us to remember the games, to look forward to 4, and completely forget there was ever a movie.

MystikIncarnate,

The movie, that came out like, a month ago?

I was always planning to watch it when it went to streaming/home video kind of release. I rarely go to the theatre anymore.

I’m also waiting on the same for the new Deadpool + Wolverine movie…

Considering the little I’ve heard about it so far (trying to avoid spoilers), it seems like I should skip the Borderlands movie, but I’ll probably still watch it.

thesmokingman,

It’s okay for background noise. It is infuriating to watch. It’s not even slightly funny at a bad movie level of funny. It’s just bad.

Thanks! About 5 hours into a new playthrough of BL2 with my wife, so this is awesome!

MystikIncarnate, do games w Randy Pitchford releases the most valuable shift code ever at PAX.

I want to go back and play through the whole series again, but the nuances of the older games that were fixed in the more recent games always throws me.

I play on PC and it’s very very obvious that kb/mouse was an afterthought for some of the games… I just hate doing fps with a joystick/thumbstick.

Either way, I’ve redeemed this for all of my copies of Borderlands. So the next time I log in, I should have golden keys for days.

ElectroLisa,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Which ones exactly? BL2 doesn’t look/feel like it’s kb/m support was an afterthought

wirelesswire,

It’s mostly noticeable in the menus for BL2. Navigating with a mouse is kinda jank, where it is much snappier when using keys.

Kecessa,

Oh yeah, menus in Borderlands are shit

ElectroLisa,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

oh those, yes they’re annoying, especially switching tabs

MystikIncarnate,

Definitely menus.

Most of the run/gun aspects are very similar regardless of which Borderlands game you’re playing.

BL3 was by far the best for menus. Not perfect, but a lot less cumbersome than the previous games.
