norske, do games w Cities: Skylines 2 DLC delayed so studio can focus on PC fixes

It’s running pretty decent now since that lastest couple patches. But I haven’t pushed a city up past 60k population yet. I’m still a bit sore they didn’t implement bicycles. Should have been baked in at launch.

What fixes are left to implement? Have they said what areas are being worked on

See the steam news feed here: store.steampowered.com/news/app/949230

The CO Word of the Week has high level info, while the patch notes show what they have done.

It looks like they have hit the low hanging fruit and are now spending time on getting the more difficult (but impactful) engine stuff fixed

That’s probably all quite techy stuff though, so I imagine that the designers and artists etc are still going to be working on new stuff

Knusper,

Yeah, probably. It’s kind of an easy genre to keep the artists busy, as you can just add more varieties of buildings and such.

After reading those two posts I kind of want the asset packs more than the proformance fixes. The game feels so barron at the moment.

That is good to hear. I hope they do get the performance issues under control.

Oh my word what a throwback. I had forgotten about those things. I collected a load of the little figures when I was a kid, I wonder what happened to them…

Batman and Flash is one of my favorite NES game.

I don’t know why but this just made me think of “A Boy and His Blob” for the first time in… 20 years? Time to fire up the emulator.

These positions were doomed before the licensing fee change. They just want to blame someone besides themselves.

I feel bad for the people that actually make Unity what it is. I hope the C-suite fucking chokes on the money they’ve taken that they don’t deserve. This whole situation is their fault.

Computerchairgeneral, do gaming w Amazon lays off 180 employees from its games division

Honestly, the only thing surprising about this is that it affected Prime Gaming staff and not divisions actively involved in game development. Hopefully the people laid off can find new work, but it feels like anyone working in the gaming industry is going to face that kind of job insecurity no matter where they go.

Pisodeuorrior,

Yep, I work in games and this year has been fucking brutal.
Most of my contacts/acquaintances on Linkedin are "between jobs".

Luckily I have some freelancing set up, but this thing is killing me. It's not easy to find another (remote) job when half the people in the industry are competing with you.

Used unity for my last 3 games and I’m getting really really tired of their shithouse performance over the last 3-4 years. They’ve gone from constantly making new features, tutorials and systems to barely doing anything.

Engines need constant feature packed updates, not bare bones rubbish. For example there’s no DLSS support for URP, it only works in HDRP. There’s also “no plans” for it according to the devs, which boggles the mind considering URP is arguably the better platform for mobile, console and regular console gaming.

Game engines should be rapidly evolving and supporting these features, they should take 3-4 years to get commonly implements features or to have to rely on third party plugins to make them happen.

SandLight,

Yeah, I hate that my game is far enough along that it would be… infeasible to restart development in a new engine, but still needs enough work that the uncertainty of Unity is going to be with me for quite some time still.

rappo,

HDRP will be coming to mobile

Sounds pretty manipulative to blame the fallout of their own shitty decisions on others.

Seasoned_Greetings,

Any more manipulative than a ceo making the decision to axe a functioning and profitable licensing structure to implement a new one with more dollar signs?

If you told me the same exact ceo made the layoff decision, I wouldn’t be surprised.

I just can’t help but think how the Unity Engine is a phenomenal product. Maybe our systems don’t work as well as we think they do if this company is foaming at the mouth because the metric says its bad. I used Unity for five years, its great, it didn’t need to change, but green line needed to go up.
