Fizz, do games w What personal dramas have you witnessed with/among your fellow players while gaming?
@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

At school there were a bunch of Xbox cod players that were friends and I was in their class and they gave me so much shit every day. It was like 5v1 and 3 were way bigger than me and 1 my size and 1 smaller. We would always argue about which friend group was better but could not resolve it because my friends and i were on ps3. We ended up getting to rank 1 on this team ladder and they were so mad they pushed me around and pushed me over. So I when i saw their small friend alone in the hallway I attacked him. Didnt do any damage because was to young to cause proper damage. Just called him racial slurs and punched him in the face and pushed him over. It was the style at time.

The next day I thought i was dead as soon as I got to class. But actually it turns out they pretended it never happened and ignored me and we didnt really argue after that. The only conversions we had after were small talk asking thoughts on the new game or guns perks etc.

I got beat up for fucking up someone’s trickshot in search and destroy. We took mw2 a little to seriously that game was our life.

–----------

Another one. About 2005 my friend had a birthday we a went to his house and did stuff but then played runescape and he had no items so he logged into his older brothers account and drop traded us his rune set. I got a rune platebody that I could NOT wear. His brother pm ingame asking for it back the next day and I said I had no idea what he was talking about. Then on Monday he beat him up at school until I said I would give it back and then he hunted down all of my friends who got his given his items.

I love the idea of Max watching TV with pointing his gun at it the whole time.

SkaveRat, do gaming w Show some respect

It’s even weirder that this boot screen was there since 2013

I have an 8bitdo and like it as well, one thing to consider tho is Steam Controller 2 is "extremely close", might be worth holding out for that to drop atm, the original is pretty legendary and 2 seems based on steamdeck layout.

sonofearth,

Does 8bitdo work well with Lutris? I saw a video posted 5 years ago where you had to add Lutris to Steam and launch it from there for the controllers to work.

MalReynolds,
@MalReynolds@piefed.social avatar

Sorry, don’t use Lutris, either Steam or straight to Bottles. But I’ll guess yes, with the dongle it comes up as a normal XBox controller unless you jump through hoops to get extra buttons going.

I played this one purely for Desmond’s story. I found everything about Connor’s story utterly tedious and the setting meant that the buildings were awful for traversal.

philophilsaurus,

This is the game that taught me the hard way to never preorder. And yes! The Desmond stuff was like 70% of my excitement for this game after playing Revelations and boy did they fumble that story…

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

Fair enough, especially the traversal. I can see how it’d be bad for the traversal with how spaced apart everything is. Some of them are way too far apart

Climbing between the same three tree branches was not my idea of fun…

Graphics are great. Hardware requirements are low, but there are bugs that accumulate with more play time. Learning curve is infinite and permadeath is only option despite a bunch of claims to mod/patch it. PVP is broken, constant spawn camping and pay to play behavior. Microtransactions are a pain. Huge variety of mission types, yet it still ends up feeling like a bunch of fetch quests sometimes. Side quests are the way to go, the main campaign is not super rewarding

Side quests are the way to go, the main campaign is not super rewarding

The worst part is that you’re forced to spend at least 1/3 of your time playing grinding out the main campaign. Then you are highly incentivised to spend another 1/3 of your time in game not playing due to the rest mechanic. That only leaves 1/3 of your time in game for any other tasks, including extra preparation for the main quest. Not to mention the fatigue system which often leaves you unable to do side quests when you have the opportunity.

I’m glad I didn’t roll any of the classes with extra lives, to be honest.

JakoJakoJako13, do games w What's a recent game you've tried playing that isn't worth the hype?

Farthest Frontier.

I love city building games. They’re my genre of choice. This one is hyped up to 11 as this great agent based logistics chain focused city sim. It’s not. Like at all. The numbers are obfuscated to hell and back. It’s got the slowest tier one to tier 2 transition I’ve ever played in a game like this. Very little does what it’s reported to do. They added a useless tech tree to lock stuff up to get a sense of progression, when in reality it just adds a second layer of requirements and time to progress to the next stage of your city. They have a really frustrating combat system which is cool in thought, but poorly executed. The economy is fucked and barely makes any sense.

The most frustrating thing that’s the biggest deal breaker is that pops don’t move into the city upon building housing. You need extra people to fulfill basic laborer roles. I can fill up every job I’ve plopped and have 20 extra workers doing basic labor or nothing. Or I can have two extra workers and build more houses to increase the pop count. Problem is nobody moves in. One of the requirements to get to tier 3 is 200 pop. I can’t break the 64 barrier let alone 100 because for some awful reason the dev decided to use a desirability score and not move pops in upon building a house. I have a population cap of 140 people and there’s vacant houses everywhere. Yet shit don’t change. I don’t think peasants in the fucking 1400s gave a shit about market prices and luxury amenities when fucking bears and wolves attack every 5 minutes. Just move people in the houses when I build them.

The game is a looker. I’ll give it that. Everything else is frustratingly bad.

FuyuhikoDate, do games w I finished all (current) main quest content for Death Trash

I was actually a beta tester on the discord. Played it for an hour gave my feedback in return they only replied with “yeah we already know those things” whiv i think is a weird reply… Anyway I always liked the art style and still have hope that this will be a good game. Maybe I try it next year again. Your review set up new hopes :)

TheSambassador,

As a game dev myself, I’ve had to learn to just quietly accept repeat feedback. I’m often already aware of most problems and bugs during some playtests, and I used to say “I know I gotta fix that” to some lower priority bugs, but it’s better to encourage any and all feedback for sure.

M137,
@M137@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t see what’s weird about it, if they are aware of it and possibly have other things that take priority what else could they say? They were just truthful and straight to the point. It’s extremely hard to handle all feedback and stuff from a community as solo/indie devs, it’s not easy on any level for that matter. If you took several seconds more and emotional effort to be super nice to every single person who interacts with your game we wouldn’t have any games releasing at all. It’s important to keep your responses to a minimum while also making it clear what the situation is. I think that was a good reply, not offensive at all and made you understand that they know and will fix it.

FuyuhikoDate,

Short? The way they responded. I totally respect that but it felt like a 2 sentence reply to a long feedback I tried to give and it just felt like “yeah stop annoy us if ya dont got something New”

I know gamedev is hard and my previous comment shouldnt read like “what a bunch of jerks…” more like a… Was my first game testing and the reply felt a bit off 🤔

ChildlessBambino, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

The Civ games are great one handed as they are turn based. Civ 5 and 6 are what kept me sane when I broke my hand just before COVID lockdown

Baldur’s gate 3 is totally playable with 1 hand.

pennomi,

Thank god, otherwise how would we cope with that stupid sexy Withers?

Brokkr, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Return of the Obra Dinn and the golden idol games would probably work. I think you could do everything with mouse clicks or hitting a few keys with your good hand, nothing is time based. Other puzzle based games might work too (lorelai and the laser eye, Blue Prince?)

Mostly 2D factory games, like Factorio could also be doable. Would be a little annoying, but it would work.

prole,

Dunno if you’ve seen Seance at Blake Manor, but it’s really fucking good.

It’s like Blue Prince + Golden Idol + Danganronpa

Brokkr,

Thanks, looks interesting, added to the list.
