Ostriv, an 18th century city building game. I believe it is just the single developer based in Ukraine.

Live For Speed, this one isn’t quite “hidden” but is overlooked by many as it is not on any storefronts. Sim Racing history and still going strong today with the 3 original devs.

Where The Water Tastes Like Wine - Ever play ToeJam & Earl? This game has the same core game loop. You’re on a treasure hunt, unlike ToeJam & Earl where you are trying to find spaceship parts. In Where The Water Tastes Like Wine, you meant to collect stories and then share stories with major NPCs. The stories that you collect and share, change over the course of the game. The soundtrack is also really good.

Splattercat did a video on the game.

This game isn’t for everyone. It’s a very, niche game.

Monster Hunter Rise and Deep Rock Galactic! Trying to increase my master rank and unlock all the Risen elders. Doing event quests that interest me, and finally taking a jab at arena quests.

DRG is just fun as hell and it's kinda relaxing at the same time. Not too far into it but greatly enjoying every moment.

I've been playing V Rising PvE with a friend. Pretty fun game. Much less grind than typical survival or basebuilding games. But the bosses are quite hard to compensate.

I started playing Darktide around a month and a half ago and I’ve been hopelessly addicted since

New Diablo 4 season started, so I'm playing that. I'm a Barbarian this time, level 80, trying out a Thorns build.

The beginning was extremely boring, and I was thinking about stopping altogether or switching characters, but after I got some items, it became less miserable.

As for the new season mechanic, it's kinda whatever. It's not as bad as I thought, but last season was definitely more fun.

God of war Ragnarök - kinda meh, unskippable cutscenes, pseudo cutscenes, mediocre story, worst/laziest difficulty design (enemies are damage sponges at higher difficulties), playable Atreus. Glad I got a used copy for relatively cheap and can regain most of my money.

Started Palworld today.

I never realized how much I needed shotgun wielding sheep in my life.

I think the gaming industry has not existed for long enough for this to be a thing. Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross are just as good today as they were 20-30 years ago, same for Baldur’s Gate or Jazz Jackrabbit.

One example comes to mind is Oddworld: New and Tasty. It’s fairly faithful to the original game, but at the same time the updated 3d rendered graphics failed to portray the same mysticism & gloominess. (and yes I have played Odyssey just recently on my retro PC) Not saying no one has pulled this off, but it’s like Resident Evil is the only one I can think of.

There are VERY FEW games where pop culture references need to be updated so much that this is worth it. It’s better to just make a new game with a completely new plot then.

feoh, do gaming w Any interest in a Lemmy gaming Steam group?

@peternile@Metallinatus@lemmy.ml do you think it would be appropriate to link this somewhere? Thank you for doing the hard work of running this group in any case!

peternile,

Hmm. I’m not sure that it fits with the philosophy of this sub.

feoh,

You’re very VERY late to this party, but as the person who created it I’m happy to remove it.

Would you be willing to expand on what you mean please? What is the philosophy of this sub?

It can be a good experience, depending on the kinds of games you play and your tolerance for input latency. Don’t go in expecting a miracle and you might be surprised how good it is.

The best experience I’ve had so far is with an Apple TV running Steam Link. My Xbox controller is also able to connect to my PC through the floor just fine, which i find helps a bit with the lag compared to pairing it with the Apple TV.

Don’t forget moonlight also runs on the Raspberry Pi. github.com/…/Installing-Moonlight-Qt-on-Raspberry…

And I had it running on a PS Vita, though the experience wasn’t great and I never used it very much.

For some slightly less common games: Golf with your friends is a great mini game to play, effectively really crazy golf online

From the Depths build ships/planes/tanks with entirely custom guns, engines etc. then play on the campaign map with fleets of these ships. you can make some really complicated vehicles if that’s your thing. Unlimited player count as far as I’m aware.

A less deep version of that is Avorion - Mine resources to build custom ships (less complicated) then even small fleets and do quests, make allies/enemies as you venture to the centre of the galaxy. Supports unlimited players as far as I’m aware. It also allows you to form an alliance to share resources with other players. Resource gathering (mining/salvaging) can be automated by your fleets if that’s not your thing.
