I’m loving it! I love how the steps for each activity is fair and that we can bank steps up to 8k so they don’t go unused!

schamppu,

The bank also grows based on your character level! Mine is now 22k steps, more info here: WalkScape Walkthrough - Saved Steps

Thank you so much! ❤️

JCPhoenix, do gaming w Need tips, when is a non-campaign game considered 'completed'?
@JCPhoenix@beehaw.org avatar

For something like Civ or Stellaris, I’d count “completion” once I’ve won at least one game. Because, ideally, I’ve shown some mastery of knowledge, skills, and mechanics that allowed me to win. I don’t need to play and win as each leader in Civ or every race/trait and combo in Stellaris to say I’ve completed it.

This is similar to how I’d view “completion” in open-ended games like Cities:Skylines or Banished. Having played a city or town for several hours, was I able to keep the residents alive, stabilize the city if there were any issues, and also grow and develop the settlement for a significant, though arbitrary, length of in-game time? If the answer is Yes to all of these, then I’ve “completed” the game. I’ve understood how things work in the game. Doesn’t mean I have to understand every nuance or know every little trick. But I know enough that things are going well and largely continue to go well. And every time I start a new map, things tend to always go well.

Earlier this year, I stopped playing Eve Online for the nth time after mostly playing straight through since 2019. Because I viewed my time during this last 4-5yr stint as “complete.” I achieved practically all the goals I set out to do: join a major alliance, join massive PVP fights, engage in smaller PVP fights, make money that I ever had before, buy and fly ships I’d never used before, learn how to explore and navigate wormholes, try out specific types of industry, play with IRL friends, own and run my/our own station, and more.

In all of these, “completion” obviously doesn’t mean I’ll never go back. There’s always more to do, new things to see. But for now, I am satisfied with my progress, experience, and understanding. I’m no longer a noob.

RS fitness 💪

Wonder if there’s a way to optimize the original video so that it shows it higher resolution without much of a larger file size? Screen recording here

schamppu,

It’s a .gif, and seems like it got resized when si had to upload it. Maybe this would work better?

If the meat of the game is in it’s multiplayer, then you just need to be declared as the grand champion.

So I’ve made an account, but clicking the verification link just takes me to the home page, where upon trying to log in I get the error message about my email not being verified. Is that account cooked? Do I need to sign up with another email? Is there a way to get a new verification link?

schamppu,

Hey! This happens to few users, and not sure why exactly. We’re working to fix it next week. For the time being, please send an email to contact@walkscape.app with the details of what email you signed up with, and I’ll be able to verify your account manually.

rockerface,

Gotcha, thanks!

I_Clean_Here, do games w Is assasin's creed origins good?

If you are interested in ancient Egypt, hell yeah

I think this is what motivates me to play AC games the most: They really integrate accurate locations and history into their story (with plenty to read and learn about in menus, and even tour modes). I was especially impressed with Origins (Egypt) and Unity (France). Haven’t had time to play newer ones yet.

The_v, do games w Is assasin's creed origins good?

I did a little assassin creed run this summer. Started with Unity and went to Odyssey.

Unity by far has the best story-line. The game mechanics are also more focused on being an assassin, not a brawler. Sneak and stab, drop smoke and disappear when you get in trouble.

Syndicate - they changed the focus to more brawling. However the mechanics were pretty bad and the storyline was predictable and stupid to say the least. You can still play the assasin for most of it if you want.

Origins - They went all out into brawling with this one. Complicated all of the controls. Easiest way to make it through the game is as an archer. The story lines are dull and some are just plain weird. The offer you tons of different options in gear but only a few are worth keeping. Not much chance to actually assainate anyone. Lots of weird half baked stuff like the naval warfare in the story line but nowhere else.

Odyssey - it’s basically the same as origins. They spent more time fleshing out the mechanics. Added in a ton of options but you only use a few. Added in a ton more brawling combat and very little assassination. In many instances trying to play as an assassin is just not possible. The combat is often broken. Beating the bosses is all the same. Spam arrows while dodging until they weaken, get a hit in and run away- repeat. Save often because the game crashes regularly.

Yes I played all the way through and beat the main quests and side quest on all of them.

Cenotaph,

To be fair to Odyssey, I beat basically every member of the secret cabal through assassination. I specced heavy into crits and there’s effectively no baddie you can’t kill by sneakily killing their friends one by one and then walking up and stabbing them in the neck.

Honestly, I don’t think I found myself using the bow very much at all and had a lot of fun in the more brawl-y areas doing melee and focusing on perfect dodges.

And I don’t think I can remember a time the game crashed on me…

misericordiae, do games w Gamescom. What did those of us who just watched Opening Night miss on subsequent days?

Not Gamescom-related, but there was a Nintendo Direct that showed off some indie/partner games on the 27th, and a CoD thing today (the 28th), if either of those were what you were thinking of?

Only other thing that comes to mind is maybe the Future Games Show, but that was last week (list of trailers here).

I don’t own a switch or play CoD. So probably not.

But I did find out there’s an RGG showcase Sept 20. Can’t wait to find out about the next Yakuza game.

Sanctum (and its sequel Sanctum 2)

It’s a tower defense where you also have guns and go fight alongside your towers as a first person shooter.

Both Sanctum and Sanctum 2 are worth playing and have slightly different vibes. Sanctum 1 is simpler while Sanctum 2 has more complex build crafting. Also Sanctum uses a square grid while Sanctum 2 uses a hexagonal grid, and Sanctum 2 has some tweaked enemy mechanics, including enemies that target destroy the towers or killing the players over just going for the core. I think Sanctum 2 tries to make the player feel more important instead of the towers being the main focus.

Kedly,

Damn, I own this game, its worth boosting so it sucks I had to downvote xD

AdNecrias, do games w Recommendation engine: Downvote any game you've heard of before

From the depths for me is a vehicle building game that’s targeted to whoever likes tuning little systems. Haven’t seen anyone know of it besides in the community itself. It’s a bit like toying around with Lego technic. There’s also quite a few more obscure versions of it, but I put this one out because I like it best.

Ajel, do games w What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from?

Jak & Daxter, definitely. I want to know more about the whole Mar lore

Thomas was alone

An excellent example of storytelling elevating a game. The game play is a decent puzzle platformer, and the story is very charming.
