Working my way through completely exploring the entire world of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I really love this game, but goddamn is it enormous. I'm about 75% in.

And just picked up the switch port of Red Dead Redemption. Really glad to be able to play this one without dragging out the 360. Still an awesome game, and a damn good port.

Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Finished hearts of stone last weak. Enjoyed the main quest, but felt much smaller than blood and wine. Love the new and „shiny“ are that came with blood and wine.

DMC5. Bought it last week. Not my favourite game but will finish it before Starfield!

tburkhol, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 ended up making me regret playing.

Gotta admit, I only went looking for the dragon because everyone in game said it’d be super helpful, and there’s a quest called “Gather your allies.” My talker had like 20 charisma and expertise in all the charisma skills…I resolved a lot of conflicts without violence. Disappointed to be forced into combat with the dragon by our guardian angel.

Kind of disappointed with all the interactions with our ‘guardian angel’ once their true nature was revealed. Maybe I made wrong choices, but their guidance just seemed…off. Not wrong. Not evil. Just somehow not quite right. Maybe somehow inconsistent with their revealed nature, and pushing towards ex machina, like a number of things I don’t see how I’d have discovered if they hadn’t outright told me. The dragon interaction is part of that not-quite-rightness.

I definitely found the ending to be the least satisfying part of the game. I went straight from the dragon to the final battle, and I think that sequence intensified the less-than-satisfying feeling.

Shadowrun Hong Kong. I wish I could never finish the game, it’s so good

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

I looked into playing those a while back but didn’t know if they’d be my thing. Are they kind of like Pillars of Eternity gameplay wise?

nitefox,

Yes, but easier and, imo, more “dynamic”. I’m having a ton of fun in combat sections and usually they bore me to death. I mad a character with high strength who fight unarmed, and then installed a cyberwar-razor-hands thing and it’s SO good and fun to play with it.

The only downside is that the game(s) are packed with content, but the campaign is very short which annoys me to no end

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll have to give it a real try then. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for aggregating this!

Havant played myself, but two twitch streamers I watch started with the Xbox copy and the load times were brutal. The steam version, apparently, felt much better to play reguardless of story quality.

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve opted to play it on my newly built PC as a crave those FPS aha. The load times have been pretty alright for me.

sylverstream,

Initial load time was very long, after that it was okay. Playing on xsx.

Appoxo, do piracy w VPS/VPN and Private Trackers (Questions)
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Usually you do not have a static IP anyway. Sure you could probably backtrace the DHCP of your ISP to the date yout that IP got issued…But that is IMO a bit overly paranoid.

Though to be fair’ I don’t know why they don’t like VPNs for signups. Most likely to enforce IP based bans for not following rules or for entire banned countries.
If you don’t really care about the rules, just do it on signup but don’t connect US -> DE but instead US -> US. That way they may not care enough to enforce rules.
One tracker even mentioned that the rules are there. Some are strictly followed (like naming rules), while others are not followed as strictly.

privadesco,

Thanks for answering and for the proposed solutions.

About the DHCP backtrace, that is the (standard) procedure being avoided. I don’t think it’s paranoid, it’s just how it already works.

What about file encryption? How do you store your new files?

Lettuceeatlettuce,
@Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml avatar

Full disk encryption? Or should I do something additional?

_TK,
@_TK@lemmy.antemeridiem.xyz avatar

file or disk encryption is only for protecting against attackers with physical access to the machine your VM is running on. Getting files from your server to local storage you should still use a secure connection and encrypted traffic to prevent ISP snooping, but going extreme on file encryption isn’t necessary unless you’re downloading actual heinous shit (CSAM) in which case you should go to jail.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why would you need file encryption?
Not like having a drive full of movies is illegal…Except if OP has CSAM stuff inside. Than it should be very encrypted in case of loosing (or not depending if OP wants jail time).

spez,

Except if OP has CSAM stuff inside. Than it should be very encrypted

then OP SHOULD go to jail.

FrostyCaveman,

That escalated quickly

Lettuceeatlettuce,
@Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml avatar

Holy shit yeah lol. Obviously nothing like that! I was confused as well why anything other than the generic Linux full disk encryption would be needed.

This would be in a server closet, so not on drives that I would be transporting copyrighted media into other countries anyways.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not like I don’t agree. Those vile people should.
But something like that or actually confidential stuff you don’t want others to see is a valid reason to encrypt it.

escapesamsara,

FDE is for physical attackers, it would have nothing to do with torrenting unless you’re really intending on pissing off every single criminal legal authority and not just worried about civil suits from copyright holders.

lukas,
@lukas@lemmy.haigner.me avatar

Nah. If you piss off the executive branch in your country, then they can more likely than not force you to hand over the decryption key. Plausible deniability doesn’t exist when an encrypted drive of likely illegal content chills there in your room.

agent_flounder, do gaming w What games have you played due to FOMO?
@agent_flounder@lemmy.one avatar

Just getting back into gaming after eons. First up was Witcher 3… still working on it but damn glad I didn’t miss out on it. It’s been everything I had hoped for.

RDR2 is next. I started it. Not sure.

Stellaris was lauded on Reddit. Excellent game.

I have been wanting to play half life 2 since I first saw it but also never played the first. Am working thru that too. It’s been awesome.

X com UFO Defense is one I played but never finished. Tried to. Fuck that game lol

wizardbeard,
@wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Half Life 2 doesn’t truly need the first one. It adds some context and there’s some callbacks, but you can totally start with 2.

Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, in HL1 something goes wrong at a research facility. Main character fights his way through then gets “knocked out” at the end. HL2 picks up ~20 years later after an entirely new big bad took advantage of the events in HL1 and conquered the world. MC “wakes up” and is dropped right in on a train into an occupied city.

There’s decent plot connections, but you aren’t missing out on anything gameplay wise or largely plot impacting, as the game world has changed so drastically.

All that said, if you want to play HL1 and aren’t interested in it in terms of it as a tech marvel of the time it was created, you can just play Black Mesa. It’s a fan remake that got the greenlight from the original creators to be sold, and by most accounts is a better experience for modern gamers.
