Sharpiemarker, do gaming w Starfield and Bethesda Tomfoolery

It’s a brand new game that has pretty high end system requirements. It’s pretty normal to have to mess with the graphics settings to get new games to run smoothly.

@Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social avatar

I guess so, as it's fine to leave a game in the gog/steam library for a long time, but several games taking up tens or hundreds of GB on disk is a hassle.

On the other hand, I also notice that I have much less commitment, I discard them easily and often without giving them a real chance.

ginerel, do gaming w What games have you played due to FOMO?
@ginerel@kbin.social avatar

Pretty much any game made by Valve. I have a bunch of friends that are really fans of them and I gradually started enjoying them as well.

Nice. That’s one of those games I wish I got into at the same time as my friends. Portal co-op looks like a lot of fun

DrQuint, do piracy w Is anyone else like 10 times more likely to play a game they pirated versus one they bought?

Statistically, no, but only due to the fact I once pirated every single gameboy color and advance game there.

Even if I did play the majority of notable titles from the advance library too, the numbers are just vastly against me.

@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Oh sure, if you count the emulator libraries I’ve installed on a retropie in bulk then this number changes, that’s every NES, SNES, N64 and SEGA Mega Drive game ever, but I mean games I specifically sourced. I find if I compare full price individual game purchases versus individually pirated games, the pirated ones still have a better hit rate.

WetBeardHairs, do gaming w hardware: use TV as a monitor?

I don’t see anyone mentioning it, but TVs differ from Monitors in one major way: the pixel representation on the TV is downsampled. This affects the rendering of text on the screen, but it is usually just the red channels that do this, so the human eye doesn’t pick up on it terribly well in most cases.

Personally, I can tell with Windows font rendering on a TV. Windows already uses that weird blue-red shift thingy to anti-alias the fonts and I don’t like that either.

All that said… does it matter? No, not at a distance and with the font size jacked up to 200%.

drwankingstein, do piracy w Re-Encode Advice?

Av1 is pretty well supported now on a lot of devices thanks to dav1d, and it’s the video codec with the best quality:compression ratio. “broad device compatibility” will be up to you and your devices, I would seriously look into it. It’s what I personally encode all my stuff to.

as for audio Opus or AAC, AC-3 is bad

MasterBuilder,

Why is AC-3 bad? It’s pretty much compatible with everything, holds Dolby Digital and atmos. Especially if the source is already encoded in AC-3, would it be wise to re-encode it?

drwankingstein,

if you already have AC-3 content you can leave it as is, however as a codec itself, it is worse then aac and opus in terms of fidelity:size

MasterBuilder,

I agree that if it is already AAC, it should not be changed as it has the highest fidelity and best compression.

While AC-3 is not the best, it and AC-4 are the only formats i know that can encode TrueHD and Atmos metadata, so that should be kept it it is there.

Any transcode will lose fidelity unless the target codec is lossless, and I don’t think AAC has a lossless mode.

drwankingstein,

yeah but OP is wondering about transcoding their stuff. there is no reason to encode to AC3. I would just use traditional surround if you plan kn transcoding it.

I finished NG of Armored Core 6, it’s a good game, and I like it a bit more than other Souls games, largely thanks to how speedy the mech movement is.

I’m going to do bit more NG+, restart Wattam, since I was distracted by some other games previously, and replaying AI The Somnium Files, since I can’t remember the story and bought the sequel on sale a few months ago.

sub_,

Just an update, finished NG++ of Armored Core 6. NG+ is NG but with slight variation of the mission, since there was branching paths. NG++ has way more unique content than NG+, and the end is satisfying. Final boss is tough, I needed a couple of attempts, and finally found my older loadout that works better against the boss.

I really enjoyed the game, especially since I am having Souls fatigue. Breaking down the game into missions ala Peacewalker makes the game more manageable, and maybe because it focuses so much on loadout, I find the game bit easier / less frustrating than say Elden Ring.

iHUNTcriminals, do piracy w please help debug my qbittorrent socks5 setup with nordvpn

I believe I had this working once but unfortunately I don’t recall having to troubleshoot anything.

Right now I just use a stack and put all my apps the need VPN in that docker stack and use kasm Firefox with ipleak to double check the VPN.

The reason I use the VPN container (gluetun) is I think I can specifically connect it to the nord p2p servers… Is that possible with the proxy settings?

I picked up Slay the Spire after kinda recently learning about deck building games and how much I apparently love them. Been having a bunch of fun and beat the game for the first time just recently. Now I have to do it with the other characters :3

I’m trying to recreate this setup in my system. I’m running Ubuntu and I have everything in Docker. I have PIA running outside of Docker. I was also able to get Gluetun working in its own container, too. Does anyone have advice?

Diablo 4. I've been trying to push to get the season objectives done. Right now it's basically sitting around and waiting for the world bosses to show up every six or so hours.
In the meantime I've been running around in the remastered version of Quake. I'm kinda bummed id Software didn't also remaster Scourge of Armagon or Dissolution of Eternity. Still gotta use GZDoom to properly play those.

explodicle,

Same here. IMHO Diablo 4 is like a return to the art style of Diablos 1 & 2. And the sound design is top notch.

My biggest disappointment so far is that they kept the Diablo 3 generic necromancer corpses, instead of using actual (but lower quality) corpses like in Diablo 2.

Poopfeast420, (edited )

Wait, I just played the Quake Remaster in the last 12 months, and all the expansions/addons/DLC/whatever are included.

If I remember correctly, if you launch (through Steam), you either choose the remaster or the old versions, each being a different “game,” but in the remaster you can just start the expansion episodes inside the game, no need to launch anything else.

Quake 64 is also included I think, as well as the newer episodes by Machine Games.

CharlesReed,

Oh, that's good to know. I guess I'll have to take a closer look next time I hop on.
