mox, (edited ) do games w Kingdom Come: Deliverance II | Review Thread

The question I’ve had since this sequel was announced: Does it use the same approach to combat skill progression as the original, where players are robbed of agency instead of encouraged to learn effective use of available tools & moves?

Eike Cramer from IGN Deutschland seems to have my answer:

The game design is annoying with forced stealth on top of a frustrating save system. That’s especially true for some of the longer story missions. On top of this, the combat mechanics are extremely inaccessible and, with their mercilessness, put far too many obstacles in the way of the players, especially at the beginning. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is nevertheless an utterly unique, ambitious and, in large parts, very good adventure. But it’s also a video game that misses important points a little too often in the gameplay details and does not respect the player’s time in certain places.

Thank you Eike, and thank you OP for posting those quotes.

Rogue, do games w Are mods usually confusing as hell or am I just an idiot?

I decided to not even bother with a significant number of mods because they just seemed mind numbingly confusing to set up.

I’m not complaining, I’m just wondering if I’m missing some trick or something.

I think you made the right choice here.

There’s no quality control in modding communities so I’d say the effort the developer puts into the install instructions is going to be a reasonable indicator of the quality of the mod itself.

Well the one that I was thinking of specifically in that moment came with a wiki and a youtube guide on how to set it. I just balked. Like some fuckery sure, but that is just obscene.

Get into boardgames. Now you have big-ass nerdy gamer boxes in your library which actually have a reason to exist.

wisely,

The problem with those is finding people to play with.

Because i’m too lazy to back them up.

Potatisen,

Freelancer was so fucking fun!

Can’t believe there was never anything like it again.

Why not just stream it?

CosmoNova,

Any platform that offers some reach will swiftly ban you permanently if you do that.

boblin,

I can’t imagine myself streaming to an audience, just not my thing I guess.

Sniper Elite lol! Love that damn game. Someone out there had the job programmin nazi-nutsacks, and they took their job serious. Such loving attention to destructive detail. i never once got tired of explodin them in slow motion from 500 yards. What a hero

A_Random_Idiot,

Something about slow mo shooting hitlers one testicle with xray vision with a sniper rifle just makes the day seem brighter.

I’m offended you endorse political violence against my people.

Never mind what I’m going to do to your people once we’re in power.

4shtonButcher,

You okay? Do you need help? Please seek it!

Explain.

Nazism is a sickness and you should get help with getting rid of it.

Helldivers but only when you kill teammates

Alfredolin,

… which is completely normal and tolerated.

apotheotic, do gaming w What video game franchises do you not need to start from the very beginning to enjoy? What would you recommend as the entry point into your favorite series?

The witcher 3 can be played with a great experience even with no background on the series!

DrSteveBrule,

Good to hear. I tried to start with 1, but just can’t do with those controls.

apotheotic,

I try to forget but it haunts me

Rolive,

The story of witcher 1 is still quite good and worth experiencing. I’d suggest playing it on easy only so the bad gameplay doesn’t matter too much.

I started with number 2 and felt a bit lost. I wonder if it would have been easier to start with 3 in that case.

apotheotic,

I think genuinely yeah. 2 built on 1 iirc. 3 is sort of its own thing insofar as the overall story arc

TotalFat, do gaming w What video game franchises do you not need to start from the very beginning to enjoy? What would you recommend as the entry point into your favorite series?

Xcom 2: War of the Chosen

This is, I believe, the last entry in the series. DLC is confusing, but I feel like WotC fundamentally changed things in ways I enjoyed. It added a captain system similar to Shadow of Mordor and has half the main characters from ST:TNG doing the voice acting. I started this series at the very beginning (90’s? Early 2000’s?) and can recommend only the first and second games. However, consider their age and thus I probably enjoy those old ones out of nostalgia.

The only review link I trust is

So it’ll be a while before I judge it’s worth.

That’s like the one review site I don’t trust, because it’s steam users. One of the worst parts of human existence, on a level with 4chan in many regards.

It can be good for a “vibe”. Like if something is mostly negative, might be worth looking into. But for an actual review? That’s just not what it is.

Minnels,

I often sort and read negative reviews, the ones that are well written. Then if it’s still interesting i read a couple of positive ones to get a better sense.

Works for me.

Just reading random ones is pretty bad indeed. Gotta be source critical like always.

omawarisan, do games w What are your favorite games for killing nazis?

Zombie Army Dead War 4

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_Army_4:_Dead_War

You don’t only get to see nazis that are already dead, you can tear them into pieces again and again… It’s really super fun

SPRUNT,

It’s not fun if the nazis can’t feel it.

omawarisan,

ooooooooooooooooooor maybe they do. and they’re dying twice.

Vinny_93, do games w What are your favorite board games? I'm looking for games that are satisfying and lead to a sense of accomplishment or fulfillment or connection.

Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne for me. I play those with my wife and we don’t really get in each other’s way. She usually wins but I don’t care.

HubertManne, do games w Hogwarts Legacy - a weird (90 hour) review *no spoilers

I liked it and thought it was fun. Funny that dark arts has no real downside though.
