ivanafterall, do gaming w Anyone feels like almost all modern online games are boring?

Have you tried Gang Beasts?

wallmenis,

No. What is the game about?

(I can google but I am asking in case you have an itch to nerd out on a stranger)

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

It's basically physics-based wrestling, and it's goofy as hell.

ivanafterall,

Best, funniest local multiplayer game I've found. Also playable online. Up to 4 players. Goofy physics-based fighting game in which you control a jellyish humanoid and control arms individually to fight. It creates some really hilarious moments as you're both dangling off a billboard, holding onto each other in a big cluster, etc... The trailer.

wallmenis,

I think dunkey made a video on this… Could be wrong though. Looks pretty fun!

Console_Modder,
@Console_Modder@sh.itjust.works avatar

There’s also Human Fall Flat. It has the same feel as Gang Beasts, but instead of fight you have to explore a map and solve puzzles

wallmenis,

I have that but no friends to play with…

clb92, do gaming w Two games free on Epic Games - The Forest Quartet & Out of Line

I’ve never bought anything on Epic, and I probably never will, but I have hundreds of games there, and quite a few of them are big titles.

I don’t like you, Epic, but free games are free games…

kentucky444,
@kentucky444@lemmy.world avatar

I always wondered this, why is it that so many people hate the Epic launcher? is it a technical thing? is it the company? I never had any issues with games, either bough or given away for free. Not sarcasm, I’m genuinely curious.

BumpingFuglies, do games w Seeking Constructive Dialogue on Mod Removals: Stereotyping Doesn't Help

Personally, I think it’s absurd to remove a mod that harms nobody. As a nonbinary person, I was ecstatic to see “they/them” as a pronoun choice, but I understand that having to choose pronouns can be triggering for some people, just as much as not having the option can be triggering for others. Why not let people play the game the way they want? Isn’t that the appeal of a Bethesda game, after all?

I’m pretty sure Nexus Mods admins have the ability to lock comments on a mod - why not just do that for controversial mods like this one? People who want it could still use it, just without the hatred and vitriol that might otherwise be in the comments.

librechad,

I completely agree with your perspective. The essence of a Bethesda game, and many other sandbox-style games, is the freedom to tailor the experience to one’s own preferences. Removing a mod that is essentially harmless takes away from that freedom and raises questions about the influence of ideological stances in the moderation process.

As you suggested, locking the comments could serve as a reasonable compromise. It would allow those who wish to use the mod to do so, while mitigating the potential for inflammatory discussions. This way, the community retains its diversity of choice without being subjected to a single viewpoint.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

From what people who had seen the mod page were saying when this all started blowing up, was that it was removed not for what the mod did, but for what the author of the mod put in the mod description page (basically full of racist, sexist, homo and transphobic bullshit), which was a violation of their rules. Plenty of other mods that remove the pronouns option still exist on Nexus, but without the bigotry clearly laid down in their descriptions.

librechad, (edited )

If it’s indeed the case that the mod was removed due to the author’s statements in the mod description, then the removal is justifiable based on those grounds. This would then be less about the content of the mod itself and more about adherence to platform guidelines. It also highlights the importance of understanding the complete context behind moderation decisions, rather than focusing solely on the mod’s functionality.

BumpingFuglies,

Ah, I didn’t realize. That is definitely good justification for removing the mod.

Mr_Buscemi, do games w Lies of P - Discussion
@Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I tried the game for a few hours but I just couldn’t get into it.

Something about the dodge mechanic was not feeling right and I hated the overreliance on blocking/parrying. It’s the one mechanic I’ve hated in all soulsborne games and never used when beating the games.

Also noticed how some enemies seem to have their attacks rubberbanded onto you even when you dodge.

Realizing I would have to rely on the parrying for the whole games was what made me finally stop playing today. I just don’t find that fun or enjoyable.

I’m hopeful that they can rework the dodge more, but that was also my hope from playing the demo too and I still don’t like it as it is now in the full game.

Xylinna,
@Xylinna@lemmy.world avatar

I was also hoping for better dodging as I am terrible at parrying. I struggled with Sekiro because it’s so reliant on parrying but I did enjoy it up until I got to Genichiro as I was never able to beat him.

Mr_Buscemi,
@Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah it was the moment when I realized Lies of P reminded me of playing Sekiro when I stopped lol. I’m just disappointed they make you have to parry. Not parrying lead to me getting combo locked during that first carnival boss so many times. Getting hit multiple times without being able to dodge or parry after the first hit was annoying.

Heard that the game has a dodge/roll upgrade a bit farther into it but I just didn’t have it in me to deal with more of the parrying to get that far.

Grateful the game was on gamepass so I was able to check it out before buying it. Hopefully my friend that’s 100% Sekiro will give it a try soon. He might enjoy the combat more than I did. He never dodged in bloodborne but instead stood still and just parry’d the bosses until it worked lol.

Kaldo, (edited )
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

This comment chain might be the first thing that's making me actually interested in the game lol. Sekiro is one of my favorite games and Genichiro is when I actually realized that because it finally got me into that sword dance flow state, or as the folks say - it clicked at that point. If LoP can get even close to that I'll probably like it a lot

Xylinna,
@Xylinna@lemmy.world avatar

It’s currently included with Game Pass plus there is a demo (I think it’s still available) so you can try it without having to buy it. Spending $60+ always gives me pause.

Kaldo,
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

Looks like they removed the demo since it fully launched now, but yeah I almost never buy games at full price on day one. I don't mind waiting tho, plenty of other games to play until they put out a discount and/or remove denuvo anyway.

magic_lobster_party, (edited )

I’ve only played the demo of P, but if you expect Sekiro sword dances you’re probably going to be disappointed. It’s not as fundamental as in Sekiro.

Parrying is important in P, as it builds up stagger. But they’re trickier to land. Can be quite satisfying once that’s nailed down.

Not sure how the game evolves beyond the demo.

Kaldo,
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

I didn't get a chance to play the demo so dunno, but I'm looking forward to reviews or a hefty discount down the line, it might still be worth giving a try. Considering the weapon variety I'm guessing they went more for novelty than a single perfected weapon style anyway so you're probably right that it won't end up being sekiro 2

Mr_Buscemi,
@Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Glad the comment chain made you want to try it!

I have a feeling Sekiro fans will find more enjoyment in it than I did.

Hopefully you can find the demo if it’s still available somewhere.

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website avatar

I’m not great at parrying and have just been dodging everything. I’m on the 3rd (I think?) zone and haven’t felt hindered yet.

learningduck, (edited )

So, this game expected you to parry instead of dodging?

I’ve been playing it wrong lol. I see people keep calling it BB and I tried dodging primarily and it’s so clunky.

Sekiro is my favorite Fromsoft.

The reward for parrying isn’t as satisfied as Sekiro, though. The damn staggering window is so short.

nnullzz, do games w Game wikis just aren't as popular anymore?

I get that wikis cost a little time and money to host and run them, but the studios/devs should offer up a wiki on release that could be moderated by a combo of employees and/or volunteers. They’re losing the opportunity to drive community engagement and keep it all close by letting these big wiki sites it up all the competition.

ono,

I like this idea in principle, but in practice, I suspect the same companies that often abandon games (and even whole platforms) would also discontinue their wikis. I would like information about the games I buy today to still be around when I play them again in ten or twenty years.

nnullzz,

That’s a good point. Fan hosted wikis have the same issue unless they’re maintained and funded by users. Big wiki companies are becoming scummy.

I get not every game is on steam, and not everyone games on PC, but maybe Steam could implement something like this as I don’t think they’re going anywhere anytime soon.

Or maybe we need to bring back good ol printed game guides.

jjjalljs,

Steam already hosts forums. Hosting a wiki wouldn’t be a big leap from that.

echo64,

It’s a little money, it’s a /lot/ of time. And for what, what does a company actually get by doing it themselves?

nnullzz,

The company wouldn’t be the ones in charge of handling the wikis content. It would be up to the community like is being done now in other cases.

I’m mainly saying that it would be helpful if they provided the space vs it being done by independent companies/orgs.

Pxtl,
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

If we’re talking stuff on F-Droid, the big one there for me is UnCiv. It’s an excellent fully-free reimplementation of Civ V… with all the nightmarish one-more-turn-oh-God-is-it-dawn addictive problems that implies. Only real flaw is that by adapting Civ V, it also adapts Civ V’s big flaw: traffic jams. Unciv units neither stack nor combine so waging war in an obstacle-rich landscape is hellishly tedious. Also the higher difficulties feel just abusively random and unfair because the hard-level AIs get free resources, but that’s normal for a Civ game.
