Two occur to me: Chell from the Portal games, and Lufia from Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. And both of those almost don’t count.

I almost don’t want to count Chell because she’s almost not a character, but I’ve had quite a bit of fun playing as her.

Lufia is one of the rare SNES JRPGs not made by Squaresoft or Enix, it was published by Taito. Gameplay is similar to classic Final Fantasy, the story manages to be quite tragic. Lufia, the title character, is not the player character, Enter Your Name is the player character, and Lufia is a playable party member/his love interest/…well, play the game to find out. So there’s reasons why I hesitate to call her a “protagonist.”

I have to mention a fun thing that series did: Lufia 1 starts with a playable prologue/tutorial section where you play as some legendary heroes fighting an ultimate battle. Lufia 2 is a prequel, and it’s the story of those legendary heroes, which ends with that same ultimate battle as the final boss. In Lufia 1, the heroes speak very formally. They sound stalwart and brave and a bit old fashioned, as legendary heroes should. In Lufia 2, we know these characters more as real people, and the dialog treads the exact same ground but it’s much less formal, makes them sound less hypercompetent.

commiunism, do gaming w Games designed to be one thing, but are commonly played other than intended?

After beating Deus Ex 1, there was a time where me and some friends would install a coop mod and instead of playing through the game normally, we’d pick a map, clear it and play proper hide and seek.

It was really fun since you could easily hide under objects like tables, the lighting system let you essentially become invisible in shadows, the maps had a fuck ton of all kinds of nooks and crannies meaning plenty of unexpected hiding spots, etc.

NuXCOM_90Percent, do games w Is it me or does it seem like review bombing on Steam has become so much worse recently?

Influencers (mostly vod and twitch based) have increasingly realized the way to move up to the next “tier” (or to maintain it) is to lead a “movement”. It is the logical extension of every new generation’s “All those people on X were corrupt and unethical and lying to you. Us here on Y are here to speak truth to you and will never let our opinions be bought. So make sure you like, comment, and subscribe and make sure to use my affiliate code in World of Tanks”

In a lot of ways? Concorde broke the gaming world. It was a game that drew a LOT of hate for having “non-sexy” female models and also suffered from being incredibly “meh” so nobody felt a real need to defend it. But it let the chuds actually “cancel” a game. Which aligned well with all of the various reasons Black Myth Wukong became The Most Important Video Game To Ever Exist.

So now all the influencers who want their own armies to harass and torment anyone they consider competition are trying to get in on that. Lots of verbiage shifts from “Wow, this game is horrible because those devs hate you. Unlike me who loves you” and more “Wow, this game is horrible and those devs don’t deserve to exist and people need to know not to waste their money on this” that translate to Call To Action style movements.

I mean the dude is/was Winnie the Pooh, so…

He’s also Kaa the snake in Jungle Book, which is kinda weird because it’s pretty much the exact same voice.

Yeah, this isn’t him getting cast in a bunch of CRPGs; it’s him getting cast in a bunch of everything.

REDACTED, (edited ) do games w I finally decided to go full piracy against big companies

Rockstar: Abandoning and cancelling GTA V (single player) expansions and purely focused on milking online for pay2win. I’m not hyped for 6.

EDIT: The worst part - declaring war against modding community because it affected their online sales (since people enjoyed playing modded singleplayer). It backfired, badly, but they still went for it.

Luck be a Landlord is like a slot machine version of Balatro.

You select randomly generated symbols to add to your slot machine in order to get more money with each spin in order to have enough to pay the increasing “rent” at the end of each level.

There are only 3 developers I will preorder from whenever I find the game they are releasing interesting. Erin “Concerned Ape” (Stardew Valley); Bob the Bot (Survivalist); and Terry Cavanagh, the creator of VVVVVV.
They keep their games updated, they are pretty chill people, and they keep players informed during development.
For now, they are the only ones who have earned my trust.

For everything else, it’s full patientgamer mode for me. Wait until the whole game is released with a single price tag, 90% discount, no online requirements outside of multiplayer, and community fixes.

d3lta19,

I would also argue too have Hello games on that list too. Have been great at keeping No man’s sky up to date with new features all for free.

CaptainBasculin,

Nah, they’re the perfect example to what not to pre order, but keep their games on watch for future.

@CodenameDarlen and plus, most of the time, when you're buying indie games from steam, they're drm-free, so you can play them offline, run them without steam running in the background.

honestly, I have no more hope in the AAA games, since it will be the same game over and over again with different skins or slight UI tweaks. there's nothing much Steam can do at this point, because it's the business model of these companies in the end. It's time to give back all the money wasted on these AAA games to indie titles now, it's well deserved...:bilibili_dianzan:

You could definitely get Hunter fashion to look like this version of scarecrow. There’s a couple of festival of the lost pieces that would make this easy.
