bimbimboy, do games w New community for video game suggestions/recommendations
@bimbimboy@lemm.ee avatar

I think it’d be good if the mods put this community in the community info sidebar.

Will be added, along others, when I finish rewriting the sidebar.

Detren, do games w Recommendations for "girly" games?

Wandersong! You play as a Bard who has to save the world through music and singing. Minimal combat and absolutely wonderful storyline that will make you cry tears of joy.

A bit of a wilder rec would be Cassette Beasts, which is basically Pokémon but better and has really nice optional romances. Very combat focused tho.

@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Cassette Beasts is great. So great I got the OST on both Vinyl… And cassette tape, of course 😆.

Never tried Wandersong, gonna have to add it to my playlist.

Detren,

Haha hell yeah. The OST for cassette beasts is an all timer. The devs behind Wandersong also just released a monster catching game called Beastball if you want some more indie pokemon fix. Haven’t tried it yet but I heard great things.

DrSteveBrule, do games w Recommendations for "girly" games?

Peggle! It’s a very fun and unique brickbreaker with lots of silly and cute characters, art, and music.

Not super girly/pink overall, but can be enjoyed by pretty much anyone.

Gibibit, (edited ) do games w Looking for a local co-op game to play with my SO (Steam Deck)
@Gibibit@lemmy.world avatar

Me and the wife played a few coop games.

  • DERU - The Art of Cooperation is a pretty puzzle game that is satisfying, not too difficult nor does it overstay its welcome.
  • We also enjoyed the snake-esque puzzler OmoTomO. Only on itch, not Steam, so you have to install it via the desktop mode. When you’re willing to dig a bit itch grants you some shiny gold nuggets for cheap.
  • In Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime you have to run around a spaceship to operate the different parts (engine, guns, shield). More straightforward than it sounds, and the pacing is such that you’re not rushed but do get some tense moments.
  • Almost forgot Pode which is a very cute 3rd person puzzle adventure game.

Some games recommended by other people in the thread that we can corroborate

  • Trine series is good platforming fun with pretty graphics and dialog that is a little on the nose sometimes.
  • Kingdom: Two Crowns is good for a few hours at least, can’t say I cared about beating it because the levels just keep coming with only minor variations. Definitely a unique blend of tower defense and base building.

Personally I agree on Overcooked, once the novelty wears off it gets a bit frustrating because of the difficulty. Its still fun in groups though.

Dariusmiles2123, do games w Do you think Square Enix should remake other Final Fantasy entries?

I’d have loved turn based combat to remain in FF7 remake.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the remake bit it doesn’t feel as tactical as the old one in my memory.

wizardbeard,

I think there’s a turn based mode you can enable from the options menu. I know there was one for 15.

Dariusmiles2123,

I think I enabked it, but it’s clearly not the same as the system from the old games.

Dr_Box, do games w Oblivion remake is... really making it apparent how outdated Bethesda is in its approach to making games

You’re not going into depth on how it is half assed. The only thing I can complain about is some performance drops when travelling outside, but I imagine they’ll patch that out at some point. If you’re referring to the classic oblivion stuff like goofy npcs and most of them having the same voice actor tbh I’d be pissed if they changed that

The animals are my favorite part of sharing with this game. I took a picture of a Stingray and some sort of Shark today while i was playing and i’ve already decided that i want to use on of them in today’s post

victorz,

I think part of the magic here is that you’re having fun, and it shows. You’re spreading joy here, bud. Like watching gaming through the eyes of a kid again, but explained with the eloquence of an adult.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

That’s definitely the mindset i try to have when i go in to do these. Just having fun and sharing the parts i like

victorz,

Wonderful 👊😊

darcmage, do gaming w I’m in dire need of a new monitor but, it seems, it is harder to find a good one than I thought.

The monitors unboxed youtube channel does really good in-depth reviews and includes mixed usage. They also have good buying guides at various price points.

ModernRisk,

Yeah, so from them (Monitor Unboxed) and Rtings I had gotten to the point to purchase the DELL G2724D but unfortunately that ended in bad luck.

Nighed,
@Nighed@feddit.uk avatar

They also said in their last Q&A that there isn’t a non oped monitor on the market that they can recommend for this use case ☹️

blueamigafan, do games w Man, I really slept on Days Gone (mini review)

A lot of people missed it when it launched it came out on the heels of the last of us so people assumed it was a clone, it was also massively bugged on launch. The upcoming TV version has renewed interest in it though so depending on how that does we may get a sequel. Also did you know there are hidden clues it may be the same world as syphon filter?

thatKamGuy, do games w Random Screenshots of my Games #59 - Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 did a lot right, and significantly improved on the formula that was in place from Far Cry 3 (which was also an incredible game, at the time).

I tried Far Cry 4, but found myself not liking the map design (not sure if it was the verticality, or the colour palette); but I might revisit it again one day. Have never tried 6, but the general consensus seems pretty ‚meh’.

It feels like the odd-numbered Far Cry games tend to be better received, so hopefully Ubisoft can continue that tradition with the inevitable Far Cry 7!

Bosht,

Ubisoft has really been screwing the pooch recently though. Like overall as a company. Their CEO has been repeatedly shooting himself in the foot saying dumb shit about being okay about not owning your games, etc. Idk, guess I’m just pessimistic.

callouscomic,

Far Cry 6 is tons of fun and 5 was kind of meh to me. I also thought 4 was incredible.

thatKamGuy,

I imagine that FC6 should play at least as well as FC5; and I’m glad that you enjoyed it!

I was primarily referring to the fact that it has the lowest review % on Steam of the modern Far Cry games (FC6 at 70%, 3-5 all at 80%+).

I’m sure I’ll give it a try once the kid’s a little older, I have more time on my hands, and it goes on sale to the point that I can pick it up without second-guessing the decision (probably sub-$20USD?)

Try Starsector.

spizzat2, do games w Steam Deck / Gaming News #11

Each of these I write makes me quite nervous. I’m never sure people will like what I write, or more importantly how I write it

I always look forward to seeing your posts, and (based on the comments) I’m not alone. Keep up the amazing work!

The only minor thing I will say is that these info dumps take a long time to parse, and I’m usually looking for shorter content. I often scroll through your posts fairly quickly looking for things that tickle my fancy, but I always go back a second time to see if I missed anything. Also, commenting on a specific section almost requires quoting it to give context. In a perfect world, each section could be separated out into its own post.

But hey, I recognize that would be even more work for you, so it’s not fair to expect it. Just offering an unsolicited opinion. 😜

I really appreciate all of the effort you put into these posts, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Hmm, how about mindustry (its open source and free outside of steam)? It’s like factorio with tower defense. Note: after playing for few hours you might get access to many more stuff in game which might feel overwhelming

Sanctus, do games w Every. Single. Game. Ever.

Games are boring when nothing happens to the player. So lots of things happen to the player. You can consider this the MC’s time when months happen in days.

Luffy879,

Its just this trope of „Guy locked himself inside some safe room from where he dosent want to come out, so he just commands the player around until he somehow dies the moment he wants to come out again” that aggrovates me.

Sanctus,
@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

Nothing can save bad writing. Everyone wants to make a Handler Walter, but not everyone can handle it.
