SkyezOpen, do gaming w Do you know any singleplayer games that are infinitely replayable?

If you don’t mind top down colony managers, rimworld is an absolute gem. The base game itself is infinitely replayable because every game is basically a story. Think dwarf fortress with graphics (well, df has graphics now but). Also incredibly easy to mod to customize or completely change your game experience.

Minecraft, especially with mods.

Roguelites in general. My favorite is FTL. Also has good mods.

SynopsisTantilize,

FTL!! It’s hard as shit lol

Doxatek,

Ftl is awesome I really like it. Eventually I got the multiverse mod which is really well done and adds more events and aliens and things

Shattered pixel dungeon

sleepybisexual,

I can vouch, damn good game

Kerbal Space Program, for sure. Skyrim is another.

Look up project brutality or brutal doom. Those are great doom mods with a lot of fun gameplay. I used to play that for hours.

The Anno series is pretty cool. It’s like playing crack. I’ve been playing 1800 recently and it feels like an instant classic.

The elder scrolls games are great for this. The further back you go the more replayability there is IMO. Morrowind is goated.

Dungeon keeper 1&2 are both a lot of fun, and have lots of custom maps. The original dungeon keeper even has a full engine rewrite which is really good.

If you want to try map painters, Crusader Kings 3, EU4, and Victoria 3 are all excellent and in depth games, with a lot of replayability stemming from all of the different ways to build up your nation in the sandbox.

Rimworld, dwarf fortress, etc. Have fun!

“Worst MMO Ever” series by Josh Strife Hayes

Peffse,

Animyst seemed like a genuinely creepy/interesting game to try to conquer with a handful of friends.

Grimbeard is a favourite of mine, he focuses on mostly niche retro games with a lean towards horror

LoadingReadyRun’s “watch+play” series could be worth a look. Not strict reviews, but entertaining videos based on terrible games.

slazer2au,

They truly have put some people through terrible games.

And sometimes we get gems like Tomato Way instead! Love LoadingReadyRun.

Deestan,

Tomato Way is a true wonder

orb360, do gaming w Speaking of controllers: What's your favorite WEIRD controller?

The SpaceOrb 360

It’s a 6-axis controller I used for space flight sims (like Descent)

theangriestbird,

the orb! The Orb was the number one controller i had in mind when making this post. I never had one but i’ve watched so many videos about it. It’s like a controller from an alternate timeline of what could have been, if we never moved to analog sticks or mouse look. Apparently the tech is still preferred in the 3D CAD space. After several acquisitions, the company is now a Logitech subsidiary called “3Dconnexion”, and they make CAD tools like the SpaceMouse that use the same 6-axis tech that the SpaceOrb used:

My wife had a PS2 version of this with Final Fantasy 11 and the hard drive/modem attachment. I had never seen one before. It was pretty cool.

The Dreamcast had a keyboard for Typing of the Dead, but iirc they also had one similar to the pic I posted for Phantasy Star online.

amio, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

N64, and this is the one I actually grew up with. They took a chance, they fucked up by making an alien spaceship three-pronged dildoesque monstrosity, that wore out at mach speed - especially by normal gameplay in certain (coughMarioParty1cough) games. While I have tons of love and nostalgia for N64 and several games on it, it can't excuse the controller itself.

sleepybisexual,

Yea, the Trident is stupid

airbussy, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

Any gamepad without vibration feels lifeless to me. This was one of the first gamepads I bought for PC, the Thrustmaster Dual Analog 4. No vibration, L3/R3 require a lot of force to press, no analog movement on the triggers. I guess what you get is what you pay for but man I don’t wanna go back to cheapo controllers…

sleepybisexual,

Yea, a lack of good motors sucks.

Now I’ve felt analog, digital input sucks

Mini_Moonpie, do games w Are there any good casual/low-stress mobile games that aren't filled with microtransactions?

There are a lot of great suggestions here already, so I will just share Mini Review with you as a discovery tool. I like to use them because they have a lot of filters to help you find a mobile game. For example, here’s their list for free, single-player, offline games with no ads or in app purchases, sorted by highest user score. They also have an app for both Android and iOS with the same info and filtering as the site.

joe_cool,

Oh this is great. Thanks.

SteposVenzny, do gaming w What are your favourite controllers?

PS2

  • best d-pad ever made
  • comfortable to my big hands without being uncomfortable to friends’ regular-sized hands
  • pressure sensitivity all over the place, even if that did get underutilized
  • versatile design that’s equally comfortable to use for 2D and 3D games and doesn’t specifically favor a small number of genres
  • smooth, strong, and yet quiet rumble
  • good heft
  • uses a cord so no fucking around with batteries
  • sensibly named and located Start and Select buttons (Everyone‘s been dropping the ball on that front, lately. Sony most of all.)

You can check out whatever is available on F-Droid. I personally enjoy playing Freebloks once in a while, it’s a mobile version of the Blokus boardgame

An alternative is checking out itch.io, searching with the proper tags, like puzzle, might yield decent results for your tastes.

You can also get Cookie Clicker or play the web version

PeterLossGeorgeWall,

To add to that try puzzles, lots of nice games in there. I particularly like flow

FryHyde,

Was gonna suggest the same thing! I like Net.
