GoumLeChat, do piracy w Looking for resources to rebuild my music collection

For downloading music Soulseek is my main source. I might grab a torrent here and there for a specific release or when it’s just a mess to get with Soulseek (like the Final Fantasy OSTs).

For managing the library and listening to it, Foobar2000 all the way. It can get a while to set it up properly but it will be tailored to your liking. It’s the most advanced player out there. And there are plenty of add-ons (called components) to add features and basically do anything you could need : play MIDI or old consoles music files, play music from Youtube, get tags from Discogs or MusicBrainz, get lyrics, UPnP server… The interface is highly customizable as well. And you can create shortcuts for almost anything, components included (although shortcuts would need a revamp).

Oh and I didn’t told you about queries. That makes tag fields as variables. So now you could make a query on a genre, a codec, an artist… “%codec% IS FLAC” will output only FLAC files. Very, very handy to manage your library. These variables can also be used to rename or move files. You can also use queries to create autoplaylists. These playlists are auto-updated based on the query, you don’t have to maintain them. I have made a bunch for 60s to 2020s music, my favorite artists, or mixed compilations.

A few components to install right away : Playback Statistics and Enhanced Playback Statistics, they will no only give you better play stats (duh) but also new query fields. Masstagger to make batch modification on tags, this will save you a lot of time. Also for now install the 32bits version, many components are not available on the 64bits yet.

So yeah Foobar2000 takes a bit of time, but it’s great, highly customizable. It has saved me dozens if not hundreds of hours to manage my library. And it’s free. It’s my favorite piece or software and I could talk about it all day long.

Just finished Link’s Awakening and now I’m in the middle of Oracle of Ages! I’ve just been playing gameboy games on the switch for months lol I used to dream of playing this stuff on a backlit screen when I was a kid 🥲

NecroMemories,

Same I’ve replaced finishing pikmin with blasting through the oracles games

Boops, do piracy w Where do i find sea charts for sailing? (Baltic sea)

I would buy charts if you need them for life and death reasons but if you are open to using older charts for interest and leisure purposes you could use the CM93 chart set. This is a world wide set taken from possible copyrighted sources and crowdsourced info. Of course we cannot direct link to potentially copyright infringing files from here but this thread on cruiser forum discussing the charts may point you in the right direction.

Not sure if they work on garmin natively but they are fine with opencpn.

Remember they are about 10 years old and come with no guarantees.

Failing that openseamaps is pretty good, though lacks bathymetry data.

Dragon’s Dogma, at least if you’re trying to play as a mage. How do I target my spells? How do I even switch to the new spells I bought? That was a trip to the wiki and then r/DragonsDogma for me.

crow, do piracy w Are there any decent apps i can sideload on to my Android TV for streaming?

I don’t ever see this being tossed around so I’ll share it here, SmartTube is a completely ad free and downright great YouTube app for android TV you can side load.

Fantomas,

After the ten thousandth unskippable 30 second ad for cat food (I do not own a cat) I added smart tube. It’s great.

DayZ comes to mind. I love the game but it kind of just throws you in and says , “Hey there. Survive.”

VikingHippie, do piracy w What's the best piracy for music?

The best piracy for music is digital piracy. Literal ship-based piracy is very inefficient when it comes to acquiring tunes.

Thepolack,

What about sea shanties?

Cliff Empire. I’m still on the tutorial technically, I think. There was one part where I had to produce 250 extra power (250 kW I think?), and even though I had used up all the available space pretty effectively, I never got above ~120. So, I went ahead and started building a nuclear reactor… which only got me to ~170. I eventually passed that step somehow. I think it was because there were more people? Anyway, after that I clicked through all the steps I passed (about 20 of them) before I was producing anything close to 250 ‘power’ and I’m pretty sure I missed something; because my reactor caught on fire and exploded. Turns out the fire fighting drones never got water, because apparently I have to set it’s delivery priority manually… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So I rage quit, and here I am complaining about it. Beautiful game though.

Factorio. I’m playing a space ex and Krastorio modded run with the science costs increased by 10x. It’s slowing down the progression a lot which is forcing me to design things smartly instead of getting by with jank. I’m about 71 hours in and I’m getting crashes which is devastating because I really don’t want to restart.

I misread the title and thought you were asking for the best music for piracy. I was gonna suggest Alestorm.

I started playing Vampire Survivor on mobile last week and I’m so addicted. I know I’m late to the party. I had heard about it many times but I never played the Desktop version because I wasn’t a fan of the 16-bit graphics. But a few days ago I saw it in the Play store for free and decided to try it. Wow! I’m so impressed by this little game. The game play is fun and satisfying. There are plenty of unlocks and secrets in the base game to keep you busy. Well worth a try. Once you get powered up a bit and you unlock some new characters it’s really addictive.

pemmykins,

I come back to finish off a few more unlocks every so often, and it seems like the list keeps growing. Great little game, very trippy towards the end of the “story” as well.

GFGJewbacca,

It really does get pretty trippy. I’ve been working through the secrets to unlock all the other characters. Some of them are pretty funny, others have curious quirks.

wildbus8979, do piracy w (rec) riseup vpn is a free VPN that supports P2P

Seems like a few people here have clearly never heard of Riseup: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riseup

It’s a volunteer and donation run anarchist collective that has been around since 1999. They have fought a number of legal battles against governments to varying degrees of success.

The people involved have close ties to basically everyone involved in Tor and should be regarded with the same level of trust (what ever that means for you). There’s also a lot of overlap with some core Debian contributors.

That said, I wouldn’t use them for P2P other than occasional use. Or if you do, consider making a substantial monthly donation. It’s a lot of resources to pull from a small organisation at the expense of people who need their services for political organizing, which is their primary focus.

Skullgirls, which is now my favorite game, scares people away with its tutorial, so I ended up making my own for it instead. It was through resources for a bunch of other fighting games that I ended up realizing what I wasn't understanding about Skullgirls.

Honestly, you could probably just put fighting games here in general. Understanding what it means for a move to be plus on block is super important, but most new players will have no idea what that means. I can only name one game, Fantasy Strike, that teaches you to jump to escape command grabs.

JillyB,

Came here to say fighting games. SF6 is attempting to address this with the whole single player mode. The Battle Hub also serves as a better spot for casuals. I’m hopeful that more fighting games take a better approach to teaching the game. When I first booted SFV, there was a 2 minute tutorial teaching you how to move and block and then it just cuts you loose. We’re likely in the next golden age of fighting games. It would be a shame if Tekken fumbled the bag with poor new player on-boarding.
