I finished Laika : Aged through blood. An indie metroidvania / 2d bike shooter / bullet time.

…steampowered.com/…/Laika_Aged_Through_Blood/

It’s the story of a mother in a post-apocalyptic environment having to care for her daughter and village while doing the war outside.

Everything, art, music, is a masterpiece. The music is just extremely good.

Outside of special zones, there are 20 you have to find, and it cycles between them. All 20 are voiced, with words or humming.

The story is good, and is extremely anti-war.

The gameplay feels amazing. It can be hard at first, but I quickly learned how to control the bike and and to do backflips and frontflips at the right time to reload guns and the pary.

The main character laika is one-shot, but the game isn’t very punishing. The respawn points aren’t too far away from each other, and they are optional. When you die, you loose a pouch with the currency, and can get it back.

There are some little issues with the game tho. The ending seems to be a bit rushed. The ending boss isn’t that difficult, and there were some cuts it seems.

But overall these little issues aren’t that bad, and the game is still amazing for an indie.

Mythnubb,

That actually looks like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing!

TowardsTheFuture,

Tried this on a Next Fest and it was super cool, definitely something different and interesting if you’re into side scrollers.

Brok The Investigator

In this game you play as an alligator who is an investigator (they rolled with that pun) who throughout the game does various puzzles and gets into fights. It’s not egregiously long and has multiple endings that change depending on your actions, all of which allow you to unlock the true ending, I guess. I have only gotten a single ending, so I don’t know what all the endings are.

It has an easy, normal, and hard difficulty which change the fight difficulty. It says relaxed (easy) difficulty is for those who are just there for the story and puzzles, so I’d assume it might either make the fights ridiculously easy or skip them. No clue since I jumped in straight away on hardcore.

I personally found most of the characters besides one certain robot to be enjoyable. The characters are also fully voiced (English only as of now), but there are 10 other languages for the text. Everything said will pop up in a dialogue box you have to click through, so you can’t miss any dialogue unless you purposefully skip through all of them. Even if you do, afterwards you can open the pause menu and find a transcript of all the dialogue, too.

The game also has a demo for the first chapter, so you can play that and see if it’s a game you would actually buy. Currently it’s $13.99 for the base game or $19.05 for the game alongside the official soundtrack and an artbook. If nothing else, I at least recommend looking up the soundtrack piece Brok and Graff, which is my personal favorite song in the whole entire game.

Against The Storm. It just came out of early access, but it’s been in a better state than many released games for a long time. It’s a fascinating roguelite city builder. You build up small settlements to a certain goal before moving on to the next one, earning you meta resources to give yourself more options on future settlements.
The best part is there are so many variables that go into the location and your goals that no two settlements feel alike, and 20+ difficulty levels so you can find just the right spot for you. The devs are very good at listening to the community and constantly updating the game.
It’s also on sale for $20 right now! I can’t recommend it enough. They’ve somehow found the perfect combination of chill without being boring.

I tend to play co-op with a friend and enjoyed playing V-Rising on a private server. We built up our vampire lair and roamed the lands collecting resources and expanding the lair. The bosses are challenging, and the map is varied. It is also fun to play with friends as the game accommodates this very well.

123, do games w [SOLVED] Need help getting my dad to play Baldur's Gate 3

GOG store page says it works on Mac.

On a separate note, with all these excuses maybe he’s not wanting to play it as much as you think he does. Or, the man is stuck in his ways and needs to read up on basic computer security. I guarantee Steam is keeping his cc info a lot more secure than his work probably handles his PII.

jmchrist,

Oh that’s awesome, must not have read the GOG page carefully enough, thanks!

And on that other note, he’s the one that keeps bringing it up, he just wants my help to find the best way to get it for him. I agree he’s a bit stuck in his ways, he doesn’t use anything that needs his CC or address (unless my mom signs up for it first lol), and doesn’t like downloading anything that he’s not 100% trustworthy of.

Thanks for your help, I think GOG is the way to go!

Tarquinn2049,

It’s a pretty common mindset in the neurodiverse community. It’s partially based on black and white thinking, and partially based on a type of anxiety that causes a sense of pre-dread before doing almost anything, once you break through and actually start it, that type of anxiety goes away. To be replaced by whatever other types of anxiety the individual has, lol.

And of course with most of these it’s more accurate to say it’s a result of the trauma of growing up with these cognitive differences in a world where they aren’t standard.

It might be a bit frustrating trying to navigate his defenses, hopefully you end up getting it all worked out.

jmchrist,

Lol, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s neurodivergent (I probably am too tbh), but I think it’s just more how he was raised and now he’s just too old to change his way, lol. He’s been a computer engineer since the 80’s and has been on the internet since about then. I think he’s just gone to too many security conferences and gotten a bit paranoid. Better to be too cautious than the other way around in my opinion. And to be clear, it’s not like he’s overly paranoid to the point of affecting his life, he just doesn’t like giving his info out online to places he doesn’t trust.

Tarquinn2049,

Hehe yeah sorry. It wasn’t just the credit card thing. The whole story there was like 10 different hints. I know alot of normal people and alot of neurodivergent people, and there are alot of parallels there, too many to be coincidence.

But I don’t get why so many people push back on it. Not only is it fine to be neurodivergent, but it’s not like you can change it by pretending you aren’t. This isn’t the olden days anymore, we know a ton of stuff now that can really help even getting diagnosed in your later years. Still always best to get the diagnosis before school, since the standard school experience causes alot of unnecessary grief. But the next best time is always “as soon as possible”. Many things can be un-done with surprisingly little effort when done the right way.

I know the old mentality is to not get a label so people won’t treat you different, but that is not at all how anything works anymore. Getting diagnosed is basically everyone’s favourite day of their life nowadays. It’s the turning point where their life finally started to make sense for them. And they “caught back up” to where they were always supposed to be.

scrion,

Not everyone has to be neurodivergent to not want to use a credit card on the Internet - there have been plenty of leaks for this to be a valid stance. Also, let’s not forget about other countries where credit cards play basically no significant role in day to day payment activities and people view them as “oddities” (for a lack of a better term).

Also, depending on how you hand your credit card info over, and if mechanisms like EMV 3d secure are in place, some merchants basically obtain a copy of your card and it’s on you to check the validity of the transaction and also re-check that no additional transactions have been made over time. While it is certainly good practice to go over your credit card statement each month, I could totally understand if someone wanted to avoid that hassle and the one that comes with a dispute.

Idk, on Android you can run Pojav Launcher, but I don’t really know much about x boxes. Probably a mistake to buy such a closed ecosystem in the first place, from the little I have heard.

Evotech,

JackGreenEarth,
@JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee avatar

Why would being ten have any relation to using Pojav Launcher?

Maggoty,

At ten I was coding basic stuff and figuring out lan networks to play multiplayer games in the early 90’s. An average 10 year old is very capable of figuring out tech stuff.

Evotech,

I’m sure they are. But they are not going to in order to play Minecraft with their friends.

Maggoty,

Eh… Like I said, I was doing a bit more just to play with friends. I guess these days it would depend. If you did the install and introduced it as the method for launching the game I don’t think they’d even question it.

I've been playing Starfield, and I think I'm getting close to just wanting to wrap it up. I may or may not want to get a larger ship before that happens, because the starter ship has been a bottleneck in seeing through some of the other faction quest lines. At the same time though, better ships are expensive, and I'm not sure I want to grind missions with better money payouts to get there. This game should be better.

While traveling, I've been playing Pillars of Eternity on the Steam Deck. I've got 5 party members now, and I'm level 3. I think I'm about to get access to the stronghold that has its own button on the UI. Really enjoying this one so far. Thankfully, it exposes all of its dice rolls to help me learn the systems better.

TimTheEnchanter,

How does Pillars of Eternity run on the Steam Deck? I just got one and Pillars of Eternity has been on my wishlist for a while!

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Flawlessly. The default controller mappings aren't bad either, though I did tweak them a bit. It doesn't actually have controller support, so you're either using the right stick as a mouse or relying heavily on the trackpad, but you're going to want to use the buttons for a few things, like pause/unpause, for instance.

TimTheEnchanter,

Good to know, thank you!

Edit: Lol, wrote a whole thing about Elite: Dangerous here since I was about to start it.

As predicted, not for me.

Trying out Deathloop. It’s not bad, but also kind of just makes me yearn for older Arkane. I do enjoy the setting and humor, and the '60s spy-fi vibe and artstyle is great.

Just feels like it’s missing something. It might be that the whole thing is in like bite sizes as opposed to the usual “wide open levels” of other immersive sims.

A quick run through a mission takes a few minutes. They get longer as the game goes on and each Loop itself can take a bit of time to finish, but it also feels a bit like it rushes you with to the whole “times of day” thing instead of really letting you take your time and soak it all in.

All said, it’s got charm and is pretty fun. Less emphasis on stealth than I expected, but I can still generally stealth through most of it.

Also, I thought Dunkey’s video with all the kicking was just him being, well, him. But the kick is actually very versatile (sometimes feeling a little, but not too, OP) and does make for some pretty funny moments.

I’ve got over 1000 hours in Elite: Dangerous and can confirm: it’s skippable.

Okay, I’m really enjoying Deathloop now. At first I wasn’t super feeling it, but as it went on, it seems to have become kind of like “Dishonored, but if it didn’t take itself seriously at all”.

Part immersive sim, part detective/puzzle game, part rogue-lite.

Has a lot in common with the Sexy Brutale as well, which is interesting, but plays very differently.

Weapons are fun and I love the '60s spy-fi vibe, so I’m enjoying it.

DroneRights,

Deathloop is fantastic. Colt and Julianna are brilliantly written and acted, they sell the game singlehandedly. The fact that the rest of it is awesome is just a bonus

Jeszcze gorzej jeśli obecna koalicja zostanie odurzona władzą i będzie kontynuować politykę poprzedników, w europejskim, uśmiechniętym stylu i w znakomicie dobranym i wyprasowanym garniturze. To też całkiem możliwe.

To też całkiem możliwe.
