I’ve been playing Blue Prince. It’s fun.

MadPsyentist,

Blue prince is a DEEP HOLE. Just solved my fourth sigil. It is really relaxing to go in play one day, put it down for a couple of days ruminating on what you learned, then pick it back up and play 2 more days.

swelter_spark,
@swelter_spark@reddthat.com avatar

Oh god, what sigils? I don’t think I’ve even gotten to that yet. I’ve opened up the side yard and the mine, and got 3 of the 4 torches lit. There are so many puzzles! I think it’s better to know nothing, though, and discover it along the way.

Crankenstein,

Absolutely better to not know and discover on your own. Just understand, nothing is irrelevant when it comes to information.

Also, fuck the gallery, you’re better off looking up the answer when you get that room.

Soggy,

I got half on my own, but I threw in the towel after half an hour and I’m glad I did.

Crankenstein,

I absolutely could not understand the gallery. My brain just does not work that way to understand how those were the answers.

MadPsyentist,

I loved most of the gallary puzzles. But i still dont get the 8letter one, like i got it but it was all about finding the theme then brute forcing through all 8 letter words about that theme untill 1 worked.

MadPsyentist,

Ill just say the following… Its not over once you get to room 46.

I loved Blue Prince. It’s still putting up a good fight for my personal GOTY despite having just finished and loved Clair Obscur.

Play it, take notes, enjoy it. Games like it don’t come along often.

swelter_spark,
@swelter_spark@reddthat.com avatar

I’m working on the letter puzzle related to the pictures right now. Definitely couldn’t remember that without writing it down.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Fun! Keeping a notebook is like half the fun of Blue Prince, at least it was for me. Same with Obra Dinn. I ended up with like 50 pages of notes for Blue Prince, as well as hundreds of screenshots.

Crankenstein,

Mixed bag for me. Love the puzzle aspects. Hate the roguelike elements. A lot of the puzzles relying on lucky draws makes testing theories for the more complex things a PitA.

Katana314,

Oh look, another day where I barely ever even got rooms that had more than one door, and now that my winding path has hit a dead end all my resources are useless. Next day I guess.

Crankenstein,

Just wait till you find out about the puzzles that require certain rooms to spawn in certain places so you can get the chance to spawn a special room from that room.

Or that some rooms being drafted in certain squares will be changed with key puzzle information now visible.

Hey! Quit stealing my ideas!

Just kidding. Looking forward to see where this goes.

(Not sure if you actually stole it but I’ve been doing it in !patientgamers for a while now)

Ope sorry! Didn't mean to step on any toes, just hadn't seen one pop up since I left Reddit!

BurntWits,

I’m just teasing. I thought it was funny it’s on the same day I do for my community, also a gaming community. I’m curious if it’ll affect my numbers (up or down). Keep it up!

So, I’m thinking of starting, for the third time, Witcher 3. I liked it the second time I tried it but there was something, off about the game… I think it’s time for another try at it.

Envy,
@Envy@fedia.io avatar

I love CDPR, I have enjoyed Witcher 1,2, and Cyberpunk 2077 is my most played game of the decade at a solid 1000 hours.

I have bounced off Witcher 3 no less than three times and i still dread going back to it. The entire opening up to the griffin is such an openworld slog that by the time i get to the empire I am burnt out and don't want to continue.

And this sucks because I've heard just how good the DLC is

captainlezbian, do games w Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy teo longest eunning best friends.

I trust them to do what they want. I hope they don’t do a hades 3, at least anytime soon, but 2 flowed from 1 the same as 1 flowed from pyre. Bastion and Transistor are amazing, but I’m not even convinced either warrants a sequel. I would love more games like them though. In general I wish more indie devs started with something like those games

Greenbeard, do games w The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!

Elden ring nightreign. I’ve beaten 3 nightlords with randoms.

swordgeek, do games w The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!

Just finished playing Morrowind for the first time in decades. Half-tempted to go back and do it all again as a pure mage.

Failing that, I have so many games in my catalogs that I’m not sure where to start. Maybe Portal Revolution, maybe Brütal Legend, or maybe I finally get into the Witcher III. I keep trying to like Ride, but racing games never feel remotely like actually riding or driving a vehicle and I always spend my time in the weeds.

Those prices must be very enticing for devs. Hopefully we get competition in the space and devs can get a larger % of their game sales.

Also these platforms are pissing me off when they say the games cross platform but they just mean steam and epic. Thats not cross platform you oafs!

Chapter Master: Adeptus Dominus

Essentially a free, fan-made 40k game originally made like 20 years ago by one guy who has since moved on. Now it’s a small team who drop semi-regular updates on github. Also, it runs on Linux

Warframe never betrays me

Still waiting on that Terraria update tho

Replaying Dark Souls for the millionth time aswell

Some osu! on the side

augustus672,

Warframe is my go-to whenever I don’t know what to play. Can always find a mission to jump into or a relic to crack.

Crankenstein,

Good ol Warframe.

Should be the gold standard of free-to-play yet it is still one of its kind.

The story of its development is truly a fantastic “fuck you” to the gaming industry that told them their business model that actually respects the players wouldn’t be successful.

Owlboi,

my favourite success story. finding devs that care about its players in an industry that only cares about profit is truly special. rock and stone brother

I’ve been trying out the Half Sword demo recently and yep, it’s medieval combat QWOP. Very fun tho, in spite of my poor framerate.

Other than that I’ve been setting up maps and stuff for a DND one shot I’ve been planning to run. Will be fun to see how that pans out.

Games I’m currently playing:

  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

I think I like it, but I don’t love it yet. It’s undeniably well made. The story is told well, the acting, music, and graphics are all top notch. Really well done.

But the story isn’t really hooking me yet. Something about that kind of fantasy story irks me. Like, the premise seems so outlandish and arbitrary that I can’t tell if it’s actually good or if it’s just manipulative. I’ve seen so much praise for the intro, but to me it’s like: “Every year on this day, something emotional and devastating happens!” Then it happens, apropos of nothing, and everyone is like, “Oh my god this intro is so emotional and devastating.”

Just doesn’t feel organic to me.

It’s also not my type of game. I’m slightly less than neutral towards turn-based RPGs, and I’m firmly against parrying. Still, the execution is good enough that I’m going to stick it out a while longer.

  • Oblivion Character Creation Screen

I just can’t seem to get past this no matter how hard I try.

  • Minecraft

Getting back into my 6 year old realm. Building a big stables near a cherry grove.

  • Split Fiction

I’ve been playing this with my wife, and it’s fantastic. Never boring, always clever and inventive. Just went through a whole pinball sequence that is just a master class in game design.

  • Ravenswatch

One of the best multiplayer games I’ve ever played. Also one of the best roguelikes. The gameplay is ridiculously tight, and the new characters are awesome. I wouldn’t personally describe it as a coop Hades, but I wouldn’t outright disagree with someone who did.

Shit, I just realized I’ve been playing a lot of games lately.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Don’t know how far into Clair Obscur you are, but I recommend sticking with it. I can’t really say anything else without spoilers but I found the story very good.

Clair Obscur whenever I actually feel like playing anything. Though I can only take so much of it at once. The story and music? Amazing. The old-school turn based JRPG combat? Even with the dodge and parry mechanics it’s just as thrilling as an older FF game; and I hated the combat in those, too, because it’s kinda boring. It’s a bit more tolerable here, given that I have some skill-based things involved; but it’s still fairly boring. I just wanna know what the fuck is up with the everything about this messed up world.

Tywele,

I feel the same. It kind of drags on with the combat and there are sooo many battles between story sequences. And you have no choice but to pay attention to the combat because of the parry and dodge mechanic. I’m playing on easy mode because I can’t be bothered to learn the perfect timing for it. It’s difficult enough on easy mode.

Goodeye8,

You can skip some fights by running past enemies, but if you're struggling with combat the best solution is to take some time to optimize your builds. The game incentivizes glass cannon builds where you generally kill mobs before they can even attack. If they can't attack you don't have to worry about dodging/partying. I won't give any actual builds, those take too much effort and IMO it's more fun to figure them out yourself. But I will give some tips to make combat easier.

If you have defensive pictos/lumina equipped swap them for damage or AP.

Don't be scared to use color of lumina (for more lumina points) as you can get hundreds of them throughout the game. Trust me, having more lumina equipped will absolutely make the game easier

Also don't be scared to use recoats to respec your characters, you can get plenty of recoats. Try out different skills as some of them are more useful than others.

If you're struggling to strike first in combat equip first strike lumina on all characters. That lumina pretty much becomes mandatory in late game as even with all the speed modifiers stacked you still might not start first.

Also invest points into agility. Agility is the main stat for speed and speed dictates how often you can attack.

moody,

It took me a while to figure out how important higher level pictos are for their stat boost. Your base stats become basically irrelevant at one point when you can give a character 500 defense with one picto.

I’m only in the second zone of the game but there’s a lot to see and do just in the starter dungeon and the game’s first zone. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Crankenstein,

I want this game so bad. I’ve been itching for a Oblivion-style RPG for ages.

Just getting into FF7 Rebirth. Was a huge fan of the original, but these remakes are just so silly it’s kind of hard. And I really don’t like the active combat system in modern FF games, but I’ll get through it.

Always playing a little Rust here and there, can’t help myself.

Was about to resub to RuneScape after a yearlong break but then I saw Mod Jack got canned. Jagex getting darker every year…

I’m playing through Black Mesa lately!
Picked it up on the recent discount and now I’m going through it, gonna do all of HL2 next, time to check out the 20th anniversary update.

Also Lumines Remastered just went on sale so you bet I’m gonna be playing the hell out of that
