Just got back on PlanetCrafter with my mate.

We are having a blast on the Moons update !

I just got my favorite game (Sekiro) to run on Linux! It wasn’t hard or anything, just the first time I’ve gotten a Windows game to run.

sandflavoured,

I’m playing Sekiro too! Such a fun game, so satisfying. And also kinda terrifying.

It was the first game I’d set up on Proton in Steam as well. What a world.

Sword Saint is the single most satisfying boss victory I’ve ever experienced, no action game NPC has ever made me feel more like I was being outskilled by an actual person

Vermintide 2 (modified L4D2 in Warhammer: Fantasy), since one kind soul on Lemmy said it now works on Linux too. I’ve missed a lot of new content and I don’t even know where to go most of the times like I just started it. I became kinda rusty since I switched systems, but playing on lower difficulties feels fun too. An hour of runs per evening is where I am at. As I don’t have anything tp grind there anymore as I did it all before, I’ve learnt to smile while loosing in some hilarious ways, and some of these failures make me cackling for a long while.

I am still working my way through Expedition 33. I’m in Act 2 and I’d estimate about half way into that. I’m still absolutely loving it.

I just finished playing Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and have started Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster. I keep checking wikis and forum posts for information, since I hate missing things (especially things that you can’t get back to). I think from here on out (I’m in one of the 3 Scenario Selects) I’ll keep it as blind as I can.

I finally downloaded Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, and think it’s pretty cool. But maybe it’s just because I haven’t played a Metroidvania in 2 years.

Last but not least, I tried the demo for Big Hops after seeing Giant Bomb’s Unfinished video on it. 3D Platformer that feels very good to move around in. Not sure how deep the story will go, or what mechanics they’ll be adding as the game progresses, but it’s been a delight so far.

kelpie_returns,

If you ever get the urge to replay FF6, the best version (by far) is the fan hack called Brave New World. It removes countless glitches and bugs while also enhancing the level-up, combat, and magic systems, as well as provides a far deeper and more thoughtful quasi-class system (each character has branching ‘classes’ based on which equips/magicites you allow them, providing much better thought out synergies than the original).

As someone who has loved this game for 20+ years now, BNW is very easily the greatest version out there. Def give it a try if you want to see this game re-raised to its fullest potential!

meant2live218,

Thanks! Would you recommend it for someone’s first playthrough, or only for subsequent replays?

kelpie_returns,

It is worth noting that BNW is more difficult than the original, as enemies were rebalanced in order to match the new synergies available to the player. So, if you don’t mind a challenge, then it’s a great way to dive into this title!

I haven’t played BNW yet (though I really should), but I’d be hesitant to suggest something that makes so many fundamental changes for someone’s first playthrough. The one I tend to recommend is Woolsey Uncensored

How far are you? I found chapter 2 to be a slog, in particular, but then it picks up right after that.

MycelialMass,

Lol literally sloging through a swamp in Chapter2

Yeah, the rough part is that they send you back and forth between the two furthest corners of that map over and over again. But if you like the political intrigue of the show or Game of Thrones or that sort of thing, plus the twist the series puts on classic fables, it will get there, haha.

BenjiRenji, (edited )

Once you’re stronger, you just run the exact diagonal past all the weak monsters over and over again. Kinda funny how the swamp that’s first nightmarishly dangerous becomes like a second home in late game.

Playing Core Keeper with no wiki. Having a blast, didn’t realize how much content the game has now. I need to play without a wiki more often. Much more fun.

I finished my second playthrough of Drova - Forsaken Kin (wanted to see both of the camps + experience the new content added with the last patch) somewhat recently and it gave me the itch to go back and replay the first two games from the Gothic series. I’m already done with Night of the Raven and making my way through the first game now. Getting them to run smoothly on Linux was a bit of a process but other than that they still hold up incredibly well, at least in my incredibly biased view.

blomvik,

I am som enthralled by Drova, you should give the Myrtana: Archolos mod a try. Really liked it.

Keegen,

Worry not, I already played it long ago! I’m patiently and eagerly waiting for them to release the Mod of The Decade edition to re-play it again, I’ll definitely try the city guard path and I’m very excited to see what the teased water mage path will be.

Just started playing Splitgate 2! Didn’t really pay too much attention when it got announced, but I saw it was live last night and gave it a try.

As a long time Halo/Arena Shooter fan, this game really scratches a certain itch. The gameplay is crisp, the art direction is fun, and I had a blast. Now I just need to get better at using my portals in game…

Something that stood out to me is that the install (at least on Xbox) was only 17gb! After so many gigantic games, it’s nice to have one with a manageable file size.

Deadlock, and too much of it at that.

In PoE 1 new league waiting room (at last!), drops 6/13

Ffxiv since the relic weapon stuff is out. Getting pretty far in that grind.

Also replaying symphony of the night. Just been in the mood for it. Haven’t really been playing anything new lately. Deltarune chapter 3 & 4 are out and I’ll start playing them tonight, but I’m at work for the time being sadly.

Bit of warframe, a lot of deeprock and some stellaris when I have that much free time.

Finally installed Doom 2016. It’s nice, but the gameplay is not clicking with me.

sandflavoured,

I prefer the way Doom 2016 looks and sounds, but Eternal is the more fun game I think.

I love games where the loop just goes shoot the other guy and not be shot yourself. (Also punch when they glow) (also saw when no ammo)

Quazatron,
@Quazatron@lemmy.world avatar

Now that you put it like that, I think what puts me off is all the melee and glory kills. Not my cup of tea. I need my social distancing from hellspawn. That, and the puny amounts of ammo. When I play a boomer shooter, I want to shoot. If I wanted melee, I’d play Mortal Kombat or something.

moody,

The lack of ammo is solved with the chainsaw. That’s why they give you puny zombies in every battle. They’re easy to kill for a little health, and it only takes one charge of the chainsaw to fill up on ammo.

Doom rewards you for playing aggressively, much more so that the OG game did. They want you to get right up into the thick of it, not corner peek with your shotgun.

Definitely fair if that’s not your type of game though. It’s plays quite different from the original.

I feel like y’all aren’t ready to hear that Earthbound is 31 years old. The “new” thing you love, inspired by the retro thing you loved, is now retro and inspiring the next generation.
