Play a better version, this one is supposed to not have this problem www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/…/mines.html or this one pwmarcz.pl/kaboom/ which will punish you for guessing if there’s only one valid option, it places the mines as you play.

  • Super Mario Bros. X is a Mario fan-game remake that uses lots of assets from the SNES era of Mario games (Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario RPG).
  • Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a Sonic fan game made from the Doom engine, inspired by the Sega Genesis era of Sonic games.

They’re both open-source.

OTINOKTYAH,

I like this two but i try to keep it in the pc gaming Side, less the console Side. Mostly because i never Had a console;)

Zahille7,

I mean you can only play them on PC, so I’m not really sure what you’re saying here

OTINOKTYAH,

Sorry it was very unclear. I’ve meant to focus this list on Remakes/source Ports of PC Games mostly. I added a link to a list of console games source Ports at the end of the list.

You seem like you might like osgameclones.com. It's absolutely massive because it includes projects even if they're unfinished or abandoned, but you can sort by playability, development status, even programming language if you're looking to contribute.

OTINOKTYAH,

Thanks for the Tip. I try to look for games that are playable and almost complete and are it to the list

Star Wars Jedi Knight I and II: Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast (Not stable) - OpenJK github.com/JACoders/OpenJK

Despite the official name being “Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy” it is not Jedi Knight I. It is actually a sequel to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. It came out only a year after JO and was announced in April. At first I thought it was an April Fool’s joke because the screenshots looked like something that could easily be made with the mod tools at the time.

It wasn’t called Jedi Knight III because you play a different character.

Anyways, the real Jedi Knight I was “Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II”. An open source implementation is available at github.com/shinyquagsire23/OpenJKDF2

And to round it off, the open source implementation of Dark Forces is available at theforceengine.github.io. I think it even supports the remaster.

OTINOKTYAH,

I See where i went wrong. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for the Links to Dark Forces.

I 'll add that to the list and change the names

Thanks again

I actually really appreciate someone clarifying the chronology of these games, I’ve got them all in my steam library and can never remember the order they go in.

Do the OS remakes have any QoL improvements? I tried playing through them recently and had a very hard time with the manual save system since I’m used to autosave points in linear games like that.

bjoern_tantau,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

As far as I know they don’t add autosaves. I think the priority was things like proper wide-screen support and higher resolutions for the older games.

Honestly anything to deal with the horrendous friction and instability of the original would be welcome. Even modded I think I had to stick with 4:3 which even with black bars was still not quite right on my modern system. It would have to be a better experience, even if I have to re-learn manual quicksaves.

@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Got them working, and was pleasantly surprised to find most of them had flatpak installers! Manual saving is still a pain but the engines running smoothly does make a big difference.

Although the dark forces installer doesn’t work with the steam install so you have to copy the game data to the data folder to make it work.

Oh, also ScummVM should always be included in such a list. It supports a ton of classic adventure games from LucasArts, Sierra and others. And by now even Might and Magic 4+5: World of Xeen.

OTINOKTYAH,

Added at First. I forgot the obvious one, sorry :)

Beside the already mentioned Open Source Game Clones there’s also this list on GitHub.

As for specific titles, I’d like to add:

There’s also WipeOut Phantom Edition but this one isn’t open-source so I’ll just leave it here in case someone wants to check out the existing build.

OTINOKTYAH,

Thanks for the list, but i try to keep it in the PC Side of gaming, mostly i’m more familiar with that. I’ll think about If and how i add these to the list :) Thanks again:)

@Essence_of_Meh@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I’ve seen it after writing this. Thankfully, half of these are for PC native games so I didn’t miss completely at least.

OTINOKTYAH,

I added them anyway to Addendum ;)

Looks like complete ass, deflect the green is the stupidest idea in gaming in a long time and those dragon segments are just an insult. Also, I’m happy Bethesda saved time and CPU cycles not baking lighting, but it got offloaded to gamers’ computers for dubious benefit. I have eyes, I see how 2016 and Eternal look, please tell me how much of a graphic improvement the endless glitching fields of darkness are. I wouldn’t buy a game for more than 15€ if it’s top notch (patient gamer here), but I don’t see myself playing this ever, it just evokes a sadness. The story of Eternal (the only game of the recent trilogy I actually liked) was a huge Marvel-caliber turd and I skipped every cutscene, so I’m not expecting anything in that department.

It’s not finished yet but OpenXray Gunslinger is probably going to be a better STALKER: Call of Pripyat remaster than the official one that just got announced.

Thanks, added to the list :)
