I’ve been playing Xenoblade Chronicles X.

The combat is pretty fun. It’s a bit more complex than the other two Xenoblade games I played (1 and 2), as there are more support skills you can use and overdrive requires a bit of planning. Enemies also have breakable parts, which add a bit of decision making during combat, although it does still feel a bit passive as there aren’t many enemy mechanics to interact with.

Very minor progression spoilerI have unlocked the Skell after ~30 hours and it was pretty underwhelming. Grounded combat feels more fun and it’s pretty disappointing that you can’t customize much of the mech’s aesthetics apart from color (and I’m not a huge fan of the designs).

The main story is fine and the sidequests are pretty good. They are very short, but they have interesting stories. The “affinity” quests feel like they are the focus of the game instead of the main story.

The current Diablo 4 season and I just finished little nightmares, so now I have started Hogwarts legacy

Jumi, do gaming w Quests? Storylines? Never heard of her

At some point I get bored and then remember there’s a main story too

I’m just at the beginning of Act 3 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I’ve dragged my feet doing a lot of side content and playing slowly because I sort of don’t want this game to end. For once I wish this was a standard 100-hour JRPG fare and not as relatively short as it is at probably half that.

The game is very good. What else can be said at this point. There are minor niggles and nitpicks and occasionally some AA-ness rears its head but it’s overall one of the best games I’ve ever played so far. The story is amazing, the presentation is beautiful and the turn-based combat with QTEs and parries is super fun. The boss fights are cinematic and challenging in an almost Souls-like fashion. All the characters have distinct play styles and fun synergies.

It’s also an unabashedly French game and I’m really enjoying immersing myself in that to the max by using the French VAs.

AdamBomb,

I never thought to check if there was French available! Nice callout. The English VA is really good though.

Both are absolutely excellent, I ended up preferring some voices in French and some in English. For me French feels more immersive, but I grew up in a country that always used subtitles over dubs so I’m used to reading.

I’ve also just always loved french and speak and read a bit of it still so I was always going to go for that in a french game.

Strider, do games w I'm a console gamer so, Why the hate on the Epic Games Store?

Competition is good, yes and no.

Exclusivity is not competition, it’s lock in for me. So epic should get it’s head out of its ass and offer games on both platforms equally. THAT is competition.

I am not a fan of steam. Not a fan of having a library that could change at anytime at anyone’s whim but mine. So I prefer gog (yes I know some titles are drm free on steam and it’s not perfect on gog either / this is just for context).

Anyhow steam is well established and forcing me to use your store and launcher will just lead to me ignoring you (doing that for origin, uplay, epic) because it’s a luxury problem.

Same with all that streaming shit. Also there are other ways if you piss off people a lot, yarr!

The companies forget who made them big. And for epic I count myself in on that massively, still owning game boxes of e.g. Xargon (look it up, and my EU? box is not to be found on ebay) and equally for EA.

And I will not stand for anti consumer behaviors. Got enough money to spend at my age but theyre not getting it like this.

DeathsEmbrace,

Epic wants temporary monopolies and that’s already antitrust.

Don’t think it’s a game for me or my friends but I am very happy for the devs to have this success with their new game. They deserve it considering how good their previous game was even if it wasn’t as hyped. Very passionate people.

My nerd herd likes the game, although we quickly have been adding mods to ramp up the difficulty and add some quality of life stuff. For a social game, I like it over Lethal Company because everyone gets to participate and there is no designated AFK role that watches the cameras or activates the teleporters.

The No AFK role part is one of my favorite parts about it. It means a party of 3 isn’t broken down into 2, which can be sometimes annoying. I think the closest i’ve seen is usually one of our players will head back to the truck early and wait if they have a Map Player count so they can watch to see if anybody dies and run out to grab them (or leave if the risk is to high)

Guess.

Minesweeper is notorious for having some luck to it. The key is trying to do the 100% luck parts as early as possible so you don’t waste time doing the rest of the board only to fail later.

protist,

Gotta do the edges first, the squares on the edges have less information

Skasi,

Minesweeper is notorious for having some luck to it.

There’s guess-free versions that guarantee solvable games. There’s also ones that automatically place a mine on the clicked tile if you take an unnecessary guess. Personally I really like davidnhill.github.io/JSMinesweeper with only “Fast mode” (and optionally “No guess”) enabled and everything else off.

ReiRose,

The same as actual minesweeping

AC: Shadows, still enjoying it after ~28 hours. Couldn’t finish Valhalla due to it just having too much of everything, let’s see if this one’s different. Also, started playing Doom Dark Ages, seems fun!

I’ve been pretty busy over the last couple of weeks, so gaming has been very sparse… But, the other day I picked up “The Slormancer” which is an ARPG created by a team of two indie developers.

I absolutely love it so far! Plays fantastic on the Steam Deck too (and really almost feels like it was made for the OLED Deck). I only have three and a half hours so far in it, but it’s very much giving me “Just one last round” vibes, which are my favorite kinds of games.

As with most people online, a funny comment will usually get a quick exhale of breath.

Your comment had me on a 8 second laughing spree, thank you for that

BagOfHeavyStones,

Their reply didn't give me any respiratory variation, but yours gave me a brief snort :)

TurnOnTheSunflower,

I smiled at yours

18 hours later, someone somewhere is pooping while reading yours.

victorz,

I exhaled at the Bond comment, but this made me giggle and smile from ear to ear. 😂

Use a better minesweeper algorithm? Or flip a coin.

Bieren, do games w I'm a console gamer so, Why the hate on the Epic Games Store?

Part of the hate is against Sweeny. The rest of the hate is that it isn’t steam.
