Dremor, do games w Steam Deck / Gaming News #20

There is a little error on the first link of the Next Fest, btw.

Justdaveisfine, do games w Anyone playing PokeRogue?

I don’t know why but this doesn’t really read like ‘oh I just found this game’ and seems more like a straight up ad to me.

CoyoteFacts,

Okay, but I did just find this game, and it's a free game that I'm pretty sure already hit mega-popularity back a year ago, so I don't know what advantage astroturfing on the tiny threadiverse would serve. I've just been having fun with it today and wanted to post about it somewhere.

I can’t believe you’ve been at this for almost a year! Congratulations 😁

I wish they wouldn’t have teased it if it’s that far out.

Fiivemacs, do games w Screenshot from what I'm playing.

I stopped buying games based on ‘the dev said’. NMS ruined that for them, not me. I buy less now.

Game looks visually pleasing though. I might consider when they actually release something that isn’t forced pvp

GreyEyedGhost,

Buying prerelease is always a big gamble. Buying before there are reviews from trusted sources is also a bit of a gamble.

Buying games 7 or 8 years after release is generally a pretty safe bet.

Fiivemacs,

Agreed, unless it’s Indy. I do like to support true Indy earlier then those that make me scream AAA!

Thats beautiful, I really need to play satisfactory again. I played the early versions and absolutely hated it but it looks so good now.

Wow, played this a lot and totally forgot about it until now! What a great price

memphis, do games w What are your favorite Tactical RPGs?
@memphis@sopuli.xyz avatar

Tactical RPG’s are my favorite genre of games, and Tactics Ogre (not Ogre Battle) in any of it’s many iterations is my favorite. No game is perfect but it does so many things so, so well. Matsuno’s magnum opus. The latest version, Tactics Ogre Reborn added high quality voice acting which I really love.

wirelesswire,

I’ve had my eye on Tactics Ogre Reborn for a while now, but haven’t bought yet since it seemingly won’t go below 50% off, and the reviews say some of the later missions are pretty stacked against you, forcing you to play a certain way. Thoughts on this?

ZombiFrancis,

There’s a hilariously drawn out postgame/endgame challenge dungeon type thing that’s like 100+ straight battles.

But the main game is solidly worth the full price, quite honestly. Any sale you find is just helping your budget.

zod000,

There are a few specific missions that are indeed stacked against you, but they are important story missions that are like boss fights. You don’t have to play them a specific way to beat them at all, people just get too caught up in playing these games in cookie cutter ways sometimes and now you get site created by AI slop that just regurgitate it.

The game gives you all the tools you need and more to complete every map, and it’s up to you how to use them. Character builds are very flexible and adjustable before each map to fit the situation, so if you’re getting stuck somewhere it might be time to rethink your strategy.

A concrete example from my first playthrough: I was facing a large group of beasts and kept losing and losing. Up until then I had just been bringing my favorite characters in terms of personality, but when I instead brought a heavy phalanx frontline to keep my guys in the back safe, that encounter became a breeze since the enemy was too slow to even touch my backline.

The game isn’t particularly difficult, but there’s lots of this in the game. Facing undead? Bring someone who can do exorcism. The enemy has a lot of archers? Equip weapons/skills that let you deflect arrows. I am simplifying, and there’s always more than one solution to each problem, but you’re going to need to plan for each map before you go in.

wirelesswire,

And what do you know… it just went on sale. Thanks for the info, I just picked it up.

How does this compare to FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2?

lorty,
@lorty@lemmy.ml avatar

Freespace is a bigger game with more ships and is more military focused. This game is more about being a mercenary/freelancer with very good voice acting and the world feels fleshed out. It’s also super easy, comparatively.

I have this on CD. Played it to death back in the day and the multiplayer was fantastic.

Atlus has zero shame with milking the hell out of the Persona IP. I truly don’t get it.

clay_pidgin, do games w 20 years later, still holds up pretty well!

I played this as a yoot! the main voice actor is Bruce Cambell. Just bought it for $2.50.

His voice and all the other voice actors add a lot to the game. Hope you enjoy it!

You tried, Remedy. Now can we please get back to you guys making the type of games we actually want you to make again?

AutoPastry,

If I’m not mistaken, Max Payne remakes and Control 2 are the next planned releases

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

They are indeed. Very curious how they’ll end up solving the Max Payne remake with James McCaffrey passing.

Though the game I really long for is Alan Wake 3, but I’ll probably have to wait 5-7 years for that if not more.

Walican132,

I just finished Alan Wake 2 yesterday. I think it was pretty flawed but still an overall enjoyable experience. Alan Wake 1 is one of my favorite games of all time though so I may be biased and overlooking some flaws.

I’ve never played Quantum Break and see it’s on sale on Xbox right now. I might pick it up to play it I’ve played just about everything else Remedy has touched. I have the game on steam but I’ve heard the steam deck is only a so-so experience compared to Xbox for this title.

AutoPastry,

Quantum Break is on game pass if you have it!

Walican132,

I don’t but thanks for letting me know! My poor Xbox Series S just sits under the tv unused. :| one of the reasons I’m thinking of grabbing the game for 8 dollars. I have all three major consoles and a steam deck and everything gets used except the Xbox.

AutoPastry,

I have a Series S as well and I have the same issue lol. I wish it had more storage by default because using it via steam deck with XBPlay works great!

Oh yeah? Well I’m 20 hrs in, and built a concrete factory that doesn’t plug anymore!
