I didn't want to deal with Glarthir this time so I just flat out refused and he took the matter into his own hands. This includes a big battle axe, to give you an idea.
Managed to steal a lot of money from him without having to actually do anything for him lol
I’m the same, I couldn’t be bothered this time so I told him I wouldn’t help. Didnt know he was gonna do that, I feel guilty now. But I like to role play so hey it’s just more lore for my character
Abiotic Factor, which is a new open world survival game based on a mix of og Half-Life and SCP, so the graphics and models look like they come from the 90s or early 2000s.
Hands of Necromancy (and pretty much all other GZDoom games for that matter) all look like they came right out of 1996 - with the exception of Selaco. That game is actually beautiful.
Going Medieval has a slight pixel/voxel look to it.
There’s also Ultracop, which I think is made by one person and also looks straight out of the 90s. It’s also only like $2 and it’s a decent time waster.
I think a modern port for other systems would do very well, Sony just isn’t interested in reviving the series which does suck. They did HD versions for PS3 which regained some interest in the franchise, but then they just ported the PS2 versions for PS4/PS5…
If we can have those HD versions on Steam, it’d be a huge deal. Right now most people can’t play the game without jumping through hoops. As an aside, you can play the decompiled versions on PC using OpenGOAL.
I played the HD version on a PS3 emulator and honestly didn’t notice that much of a difference from the PS2 game with upscaled resolution.
I think the point of this post, which I agree with, is that the PS2 version that is available via emulators or on the PS store currently is good enough as it is and the series doesn’t need revived at all.
Sort of in the same vein is that I tried playing MGS1 twin snakes which is the gamecube remake of the PS1 game. Maybe it’s nostalgia of the original being my favorite game of all time, but it just didn’t hit the same for me as the original. It’s just about the closest thing to what a modern “remake” would look like, except I guess with the graphics of how the new remastered snake eater game looks instead of the GC graphics.
It sucks that people might skip timeless classics like these because they’re not remastered with updated graphics.
OpenGOAL runs flawlessly ime. For TPL and Jak 2, there are some extra qol settings and some added secrets to mess around with (in Jak 2, you can unlock cheats for invulnerable vehicles throughout the city, real time of day, turbo jetboard, etc). They’re still working on Jak 3, but you could always get PCSX2 for that one. PCSX2 is a fantastic emulator for PS2 games that also works pretty much flawlessly. It’s how I replayed the old Sly games and a bunch of others.
I feel the same. The atmosphere is decidedly less doom-like in my view and I’m a little skeptical of these new gameplay mechanics. Riding flying dragons? I’m also not a fan of the way Marty Stratton handled the situation with Mick Gordon, which has damped my goodwill for the studio. I bought Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal on launch. I will not buy this game until it is bargain bin prices.
Edit used disclaimer incorrectly, should have said something like:
Noteworthy point: I’ve beaten every modern doom on nightmare.
This doom game is such a departure from the doom series that it is just a bad game.
The game can be beaten with a single gun and parry. Every single time I ‘struggled’ it was because I was playing the game to have fun (silly me) and wasn’t spamming shield. Every single encounter ended almost immediately once parry spam was activated.
The final boss literally did not touch me. This game was a really really bad joke.
Edit: I am genuinely convinced there is a fleet of shills portraying this game as good and a lot of old people influencing it. Like, they downgraded the game to a fucking boomer shooter. This game gave me destiny vibes, in that it was a very pretty cake only to find that it was filled with shit.
Edit 2: I forgot the most important part; there isn’t a single difficulty related achievement. I know, because I beat the game on nightmare.
It’s not the souls/weapons that we get at the end, it’s the useless (irl) skill set we honed along the way.
Souls bosses aren’t really rewarding except for the joy one gets from the fight. And if you don’t enjoy that all games give you plenty of room for cheese/overlevel/skip.
Maybe so, yes.
Each person should play how they like, imho.
That is what I mean by souls games giving you a lot of options to chose your player skill progression (gitting gud) intensity (and even end skill level, that it’s why people don’t level up etc).
I’m having a blast with it. It’s a break from the design ethos that was Doom Eternal. So if you’re looking for more Eternal you’ll be disappointed. This one wants you to play significantly more aggressively.
Why didn’t they go AMD, or heck, even Intel? They have GPU-heavy APUs in the pipe that would mostly just work.
Intel, in particular, is not bad power-wise as long as they aren’t clocking chips to very edge like they’ve been doing, and won’t necessarily have the TSMC capacity constraint. That’s huge.
It means emulation with pretty much every current title, and graphics driver issues and sluggish game out of the wazoo (as Qualcomm is very different than AMD/Intel/Nvidia).
ARM being more power efficient is also kind of a meme. Intel/AMD can be extremely good when clocked low (which they can do since there’s no emulation overhead), with both the CPU/GPU. Apple just makes x86 look bad because they burn a ton of money on power efficiency, but Qualcomm is more in the “budget” space. No one is paying $2K for an Xbox handheld like they would for an Apple product.
Yeah, I know it would mean emulation, the question is more if they can deliver. Since they state it will work with all Microsoft, Epic, and Steam games. Assuming any of the leaks are right.
Games are complex. Qualcomm/MS may tune it for the most popular titles, but I just don’t see how they can catch up to years of desktop GPU driver development.
The base M4 is a very small chip with a modest memory config. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic, but it’s more Steam Deck/laptop than beefy APU (which the M4 Pro is a closer analogue to).
$1200 is pricey for what it is, partially because Apple spends so much on keeping it power efficient, rather than (for example) using a smaller die or older process and clocking it higher.
I honestly thought the entire point of the Series S was that they would later be able to shrink it down into a portable device without any game patches
Call it the “series s” without capitalization lol, Microsoft loves confusing names, right?
Boardgame ports are nice, but sometime difficult on a small screen. I am also enjoying Star Traders: Frontiers. There are even the Old Total Wars games. All this are not free though. Netflix has several good games if you are subscribed.
