Hogwarts legacy

Stillhart,

I picked this up a few weeks back to see what the hype was about. Did nothing for me. Might be because I’m sick to fucking death of the “open world adventure” genre… they all feel like reskins of the same game I’ve been playing since, oh I dunno, Assassin’s Creed 1?

Hogwarts does nail the feel of Harry Potter but that’s not enough to keep me interested in a genre that’s played out.

delitomatoes,

It’s meant more for fans of the IP. If you’re not, like me, it’s a very generic open world game, especially after completing Elden Ring

Baldurs Gate 3 on my linux machine runs pretty good and smooth. Already died because I failed a persuasion/deception check which led to a party wipe. It wasnt uncalled for either and didn’t came out of the blue. I really enjoy it.

Skyhighatrist,

I’m also playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on my Linux machine. Besides some frequent crashes, which I haven’t confirmed if they are the game or my aging hardware, it’s been running fine. I’m currently waiting for it to transfer to my Steam Deck to see how it fares there. I’d love to be able to play in bed, but I fear I may lose a lot of sleep if I do that.

Stillhart,

I too am playing on Linux after making the switch last month. BG3, surprisingly, runs perfectly right out of the box. No settings changes, no command line parameters, nothing. Hasn’t crashed once. I’m really impressed.

Spongebob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. Wanted to play something silly and and stress-relieving. This fit the bill.

Scrath, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of August 6th

Just finished Life is Strange and Life is Strange Before the Storm.

Both are great games with a really good soundtrack but I personally preferred the story of the first title.

ConstableJelly, (edited )

I’ve tried the original Life Is Strange twice, and both times I >!failed to save Kate!< because I don’t have an infallible memory and quit out of anger.

Edit: fixed the name

Scrath,

Do you mean Kate, the girl who is trying to commit suicide by jumping? As fas as I know, there is no path where Max dies.

ConstableJelly,

Haha yup, thanks.

Skyhighatrist,

Reddit style spoilers don’t appear to work on Lemmy. Instead use:

::: spoiler description
Spoiler goes here
:::

Which will look like this:

descriptionSpoiler goes here

Admittedly, it’s not ideal for inline spoilers, but if you really want to hide for the benefit of others, that’s they way you’re supposed to do it on Lemmy, I guess.

ConstableJelly,

Really? It looks right to me (on Sync). I’ll bear this in mind though next time.

Skyhighatrist,

Looks like sync doesn’t implement lemmy spoilers correctly, and still uses reddit spoilers. But the lemmy web-ui doesn’t honour those spoilers and does them the way I showed in my comment. That’s unfortunate, because people using Sync won’t be able to effectively hide spoilers, and will potentially be spoiled on things when Lemmy users use spoilers the way the web-ui tells them to in the editor.

MoxFcCloud, do gaming w Backwards compatibility is the best feature of Xbox, and I don't understand why Sony is so far behind on this

The simplest and most likely reason is just because they don't have to. Playstation is leading Xbox by a lot this generation (so far, things can change) and PlayStation just has no incentive to add value to something they're already selling record numbers of. Xbox is trying to attract customers, customer playstation has left on the cutting room floor, and backwards compatibility is a way to do that.

CmdrShepard,

Not to mention the closer you get to modern day, the more games rely on company servers to remain running. Long gone are the days of simple platformers like Super Mario Bros. Many games made in the last 15 years are multi-player games with a basic ass single player added on for ‘compliance’ reasons. It’d still be great for those that want it, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much that I can’t replicate myself with ROMs and emulators should the need arise.

yote_zip, do piracy w game cracks on lutris?
@yote_zip@pawb.social avatar

Most game cracks work just fine through WINE. You just need to get the game extracted into the WINE prefix and have the crack applied, then point Lutris at it and it will work fine. If you find a specific crack isn’t working, you can probably find another that does, or crack it yourself using simple tools that are always Linux-compatible. I wrote a guide on using these tools for reference.

The romanticism of flight, chivalry of air combat, and the sincere humanity throughout the series is what made me a fan many years ago.

AlexWIWA,

Anime Sky Knights is my favorite way to describe the series. It plays almost how someone would describe a knight in a song.

Still playing Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and 0 A.D. See this comment for details.

Also checked out SWTOR but I couldn’t get past the clunky controls and camera, so considering dropping it. Also checking out Star Trek Online for the first time, and it’s looking promising. The combat is a bit weird, but I like the controls better than SWTOR.

Going through all of the Hitman reboot trilogy maps purely to take screenshots. My plan is to have a fat wallpaper folder of all sorts of locations from the trilogy. It's a beaut

LastOneStanding, do gaming w Pirating games you own?

I don’t think you actually committed an act of piracy. Good for you, though. I’m still trying to figure out how to fit a 100GB game into my hard drive (SSD) without slowing my computer down. I, too, may turn to FitGirl for the answer. If my theoretical piracy isn’t piracy (because I bought the game plus DLC, just haven’t downloaded and installed) I don’t think your theoretical or alleged piracy is actual piracy, either. I have SO MANY issues with the username FitGirl, though. They could have figured out a name that wasn’t so sexist. I would have gone with SlimWare.

Evergreen5970,

As a person who isn’t too knowledgeable about the piracy scene, what’s sexist about “FitGirl”? Is there some story behind the username that makes it sexist in use? My outsider’s impression is that FitGirl is a woman who likes fitness, exercise, and releasing pirated stuff for people.

LastOneStanding,

Most people refer to FitGirl as a man. They assume FitGirl is a man or know it’s a man. I thought like you once the first time I saw repacks made by FitGirl. I was like, “Oh, cool! A woman into fitness and computer science!” I hope I was right and I hope your “outsider’s take” is right. I fear that this is not the case. Note that I fear this, I cannot confirm if FitGirl is a man or a woman myself since this person is not my next-door neighbor. I just have been around long enough to see how FitGirl is always referred to as a man. Since I’ve learned more, the idea, as far as I can tell, is that the software gets “slimmed down” and “de-bloated.” Perhaps you’ve heard the term “bloatware?” My understanding is that, if FitGirl is a man, he is referring to women who complain about bloating and he is referring to the “bloatware” that he reduces in size as a woman who has been relieved of the bloating. “Fit” here does not refer to exercise, but rather a body type which, in turn, metaphorically refers to reducing the size of “bloatware.” Anyway, that’s what I’ve been able to piece together over the years. Mind you, it’s an interpretation of mine. Who knows how far off the mark I am? Maybe someone who knows FitGirl personally can tell us more. Maybe she’s somebody’s gym buddy.

MadMenace,

Considering the incredible speed at which Fitgirl releases repacks, I’m inclined to believe it’s a team of people.

bandario, do gaming w What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?
@bandario@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I was so angry when Battlefield 2042 came out in 2021. SO MAD. I’d waited years for that game, and the state it was released in was downright embarrassing. Just not even in the universe of finished or playable - it was a joke.

I was so furious because I’d convinced my friends that it was going to be amazing. Thankfully we all signed up for EA Play for a month rather than buying a copy for $90AUD.

We all went and played call of duty for 2 years instead, but it fractured the group.

Recently BF2042 went back on sale for $20. A friend sent us all some youtube videos and convinced the whole squad to give it another run as they had been actively working on the game for the entire two years. I’m so glad he did!

We have had some absolutely epic 128 player matches the last 4 months. So much fun, it has felt like the old days.

One friend has put in the hours and learned to be a pretty competent chopper pilot. We have had a couple of games with a full squad in the chopper repairing and gunning and managed to stay alive the entire match without a single death. Absolutely legendary.

We’ve had others jumping between vehicle and ground play and basically turned the tide of battle just with our little squad. Man we’ve had some fun! It’s the first time in years that I’ve regularly managed to field a full squad all on voice comms and it’s just been so great.

hagelslager,

Have you looked at BattleBit Remastered? It looks janky, but scratches an itch the Battlefield series can’t reach for a while now.

bandario,
@bandario@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah I bought it. It plays really well, but I just couldn’t get past the graphics. I didn’t spend 7K on my rig to play stickmen.
