NocturnalMorning,

I don’t feel that way about ffVVI at all. The story was fantastic. My only complaint was that some of the fights just felt like the eikons were damage sponges.

What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for? (kbin.social) angielski

As I've gotten older as a player, I have found myself dropping some eras of gaming that I used to be nostalgic for. One of them is the 8-bit era, the NES days. I have played some of the best that system had to offer and I will never say that system didn't have any good games....

NocturnalMorning, (edited )

I was a bit young when nes, and snes came out. I am still quiet fond of super mario world 2. But my favorite consoles, hands down are N64, PS1, and PS2. They were really just figuring out open world gaming back then, and they hadn’t yet figured our how to make every game constantly online, and/or gaming as a service.

I will say though, a lot of the old games I used to love don’t hold up as well playing them as an adult. They are either super hard, or have weird camera and controls, especially 007 GoldenEye for N64.

Another one that turned out to be tedious and hard is Zelda Ocarina of Time, which really surprised me. I thought the game was the greatest game ever as a kid.

NocturnalMorning,

I highly doubt they used those cables maliciously knowing they’d go out right when the warranty expired. It was probably a cost thing, and they later realized (too late to fix it) during production sometime that the cables were a warranty issue.

Engineers don’t do thing maliciously with their designs. They pick things based on cost, and probably even raised the cable length as a risk/concern during the design and testing phase, and were overruled by the bean counters.

It’s happened to me before.

NocturnalMorning,

I’m just suggesting a probable scenario. I would be really surprised if this was malicious.

NocturnalMorning,

I’m fine not having this conversation anymore. I just gave a perspective from an engineer. No need to continue shitting on me. I’m not even defending the practice.

NocturnalMorning,

Maybe they can stop changing the story of beloved remakes. That might help too. I didn’t buy rebirth, and I won’t buy it unless it’s used. The only way I can voice my disapproval of what they’ve done with the ff7 remake and the bait and switch they did with part 1 is to not give them my money.

NocturnalMorning,

That’s what ff16 was. It’s a great game in my opinion, the story is at least.

NocturnalMorning,

I was fine with the change from turn based combat. I fully expected that even with them trying to hook in newer fans of the series with modern mechanics.

But there really was no reason to change the story. It was obvious they did it as a business decision when they turned the first 5 hours of the game into 40 hours of fluff.

I wasn’t even upset with the story additions for the extra character. It was kinda nice even to get some background on the characters before we leave Midgar without them.

It’s the fundamental changes to the story that really bothered me, that they made for really no reason.

NocturnalMorning,

That’s why it’s called an opinion. I think the story pacing is garbage compared to the original. Introducing Sephiroth into the beginning of the game made zero sense, and then fighting him as one of the bosses really took away from the mystery of what made the original reveal of him as the real villain all that much better.

And the whispers were an absolute stupid choice to put into the game.

NocturnalMorning,

Can’t please everyone. Different strokes for different folks.

NocturnalMorning,

Maybe Microsoft could stop vacuuming up all of the studios that have built names and reputations based on putting out great games. They’re going to ruin these companies. Damn corporations always coming in and wrecking stuff.

NocturnalMorning,

You’re either an idiot, or a troll, either way you should go somewhere else.

NocturnalMorning,

Their comment is incredibly ignorant. They’ve been fed a steady stream of propaganda from a fire hydrant of fox News, that’s why they should go somewhere else. Down vote all you want.

NocturnalMorning, (edited )

Is this really something you waste time thinking about, whether or not the devs waste their frame budget on boob jiggle physics?

Seriously, there’s so much to optimize in a game to get good performance, jiggling boons is way down on the list of things to worry about.

NocturnalMorning,

It does if you’re using physics to simulate it. Sure, if it’s just part of an animation you’re not losing anything by having it. But if you’re calculating the physics in real-time, it’s costly. They do it for hair, clothes, and apparently boobs now.

NocturnalMorning,

Frankly, this isn’t anything to do with the government anyway, nor should they be getting involved

It kinda does though. The only way you’re going to force companies to keep their old games available is through laws. Companies will only release source code when they take down their online games if legally compelled. They will only release source or keep on steam old off-line games they don’t want to keep up if they are legally compelled.

And honestly, it seems like the bare minimum to give the community the resources to keep playing a game when you’ve decided as a company it’s too old and you want to move on from it.

NocturnalMorning,

That description of how the teams are structured sounds completely made up. They’d never get a game finished if the company was actually structured that way. I’ve personally never worked for a company that would just let me project hop when I felt like it.

You’d be starting over constantly.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut PC cross-play and system requirements revealed (blog.playstation.com) angielski

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the first PlayStation title on PC that uses a new PlayStation overlay, which includes your Friends list, Trophies, Settings, and your Profile. This feature is available on Windows PCs and will be accessible from the in-game menu or, for keyboard players, by pressing the “SHIFT +F1”...

NocturnalMorning,

Do we really need overlays like this? I’d be fine with just playing the game.

NocturnalMorning,

This was the first zelda I really felt like nailed the open world feel. I had a blast playing this one with my partner.

Horn of Balance - an indie 2D zelda-like

I'm developing 'Horn of Balance', a 2D zelda-like featuring 12 non-linear dungeons, 2 interconnected worlds and a TON of secrets.

Right now, the project is live on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hornofbalance/horn-of-balance) and we've almost hit the funding goal with just 24 hours left!

There's also a free demo on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2738140/Horn_of_Balance/) and Itch.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have!

@games

NocturnalMorning,

You can’t copyright an art style.

NocturnalMorning,

Whitehurst and chief product and technology officer Marc Whitten discuss Unity’s plans to rebuild trust with developers after the 2023 Runtime Fee fiasco.

Here’s a hint, it’s gone. You’re not going to get that trust back for 10-20 years, if you ever get it back.

NocturnalMorning, (edited )

I never understood why itch.io had so many horror games. Once a year I will make a Spooky game around Halloween, but they’re never that spooky, just Halloween themed usually.

NocturnalMorning,

I dunno, I suck at horror. Every time I try to do horror it turns out. not. that.

NocturnalMorning, (edited )

I haven’t played in years. Hopped on again when they brought wow classic in just to try it bcz I started around the time of the cataclysm expansion. But once they banned that Hong Kong player from a tournament back in 2019 over the protest crap, I haven’t been back.

I can’t believe the game is still going. The expansions just got worse as time went on. How they’re still churning out content people want to play is beyond me.

NocturnalMorning,

I mean, I guess if people are still playing, why would you stop, even if the content quality isn’t that great.

Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase? angielski

Started playing a few indie titles on PC, or at least titles that I would not normally be able to find without digging a bit (Sea of Stars, Hollow Knight, Garden Story, etc). Finding games that are made by smaller studios is a little (not much, but a little) harder than finding “Top Sellers” on Steam. I have tried Steam’s...

NocturnalMorning,

I just go to itch.io usually and play new games there. Might not be what you’re looking for, but as far as indie titles go, I find a lot of weird ideas on there.

NocturnalMorning,

My God, I don’t know which statement is more accurate.

Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard' (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Well, I mean, I would have launched it first (as an AAA game), but I’m no game developer. 🤷 And neither are they, from the looks of it. Good at perpetually raking in money for himself and his family, though!

NocturnalMorning,

It never ceases to amazing me how angry people get when a game isn’t perfect and bug free. We want more and more content and graphics with the same amount or less resources, all the while refusing to pay any more for it.

I miss the days when people were happy with n64 and ps1 graphics. You didn’t need a team of 200 people to put out hyper realistic graphic open world games that people would still shit on.

Sheesh, I’m glad I’m not in this industry.

NocturnalMorning,

I’m not on any side of the fence. I just see these posts shitting on games all the time, and get tired of seeing them. If you don’t like a game fine, don’t play it. But making games is hella difficult. I make indie games in my spare time, and I can honestly say, just making a single player game is hard, let alone a multi-player game, or anything realistic. Like Jesus, if you have such a huge problem with these games, go make a better one yourself.

NocturnalMorning,

I was not expecting to be so upset hearing this news. I grew up watching dbz in some of the most turbulent times of my life. I watched his TV shows and saw how the characters in the show always prevailed time and time again over those who tried to harm them. It very much did not mirror my childhood, but it gave me a much needed distraction from real life, and made me believe that there were actually good things in the world, and not just pain and suffering.

RIP Mr. Toriyama, you saved me even though you never knew me.

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend? angielski

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

NocturnalMorning,

My partner wasn’t into video games, but I got her into them. One she was really into is stardew valley. It’s really chill and low stakes. Might be a good one to try.

NocturnalMorning,

No thanks, pass. Games as a service with loot boxes and battle passes aren’t my thing.

NocturnalMorning,

They’re gonna get slapped with a law suit o er this.

Would you prefer if games had a separate difficulty setting for boss fights? angielski

I usually play games on “normal” difficulty these days, for a balanced challenge. However, I don’t particularly enjoy boss fights, or at least I don’t enjoy the extra challenge associated with them. Was thinking it would be nice if games had a separate setting so I could just set boss fights to “easy”, while not...

NocturnalMorning,

That’s called cheating, and there’s usually a way to do it in most games.

NocturnalMorning,

Anything that circumvents the design of the game to gain an advantage is technically cheating. I wasn’t necessarily saying it shouldn’t be there. Just pointing out, there is usually a wat to do it in most games. The devs have to have a way to test things and move the stories forward without playing hundreds of hours of game.

NocturnalMorning,

Is this bcz they found out nobody wants to play a black flag game without the black flag part? Trailer got a really poor reception so they tried to address the criticism?

NocturnalMorning,

Classic wow is just grinding. I didn’t play it until they re-released it, and it took me a week to get to level 12. That’s kind of unreasonable.

NocturnalMorning,

That’s easy now, but definitely not a thing when classic wow was around.

Edit: I looked it up, average time to 60 is 30 days in classic wow. Making your 4 hour remark not right.

NocturnalMorning,

Yeah, in the modern game. Vanilla wow, that is not the case. Why do I keep having to repeat myself.

NocturnalMorning,

That my privacy settings are set correctly, so they didn’t have any information on me besides the number of games I own.

Just beat Lies of P and I love it! angielski

My first soulsborne game was Bloodborne and is still my favorite of the FromSoft series with Elden Ring just behind it. Playing Lies of P has seriously reminded me of when I first played Bloodborne and so it probably gets special bonus points just for that. Now I just have to wait until Friday for Lords of the Fallen!

NocturnalMorning,

I don’t understand the obsession with super difficult games. I can get plenty good at them. But I don’t enjoy getting angry at videogames when I die 14 times fighting a boss.

I’d love to play Lies of P, but no difficulty level means I’m not playing it. I tried Elden Ring as well, and Bloodborne. These kind of games just aren’t for me.

NocturnalMorning,

I wish I was like that. It might be an adhd thing. I’d love to play some of these games. It’s just not worth my sanity.

NocturnalMorning,

Good thing I’m developing all of my games in Unreal right now.

NocturnalMorning,

I think we need both. You can never have too much test coverage.
