Can’t say I’m surprised that a file sharing site that advertises complete anonymity was being used to spread illegal and I’m guessing disgusting things.
I’m surprised that anyone thought it was a good idea though.
If I was going to do it I would only host the site on tor or i2p. I’d only host magnet links with minimal metadata and aim to have the site work without JavaScript. Maybe a small flask application or something to populate the pages using templates. Very basic, light weight and secure.
I would also release a monthly dump of the site to allow it to survive in the event of a takedown .
This way you have a minimal attack surface , you are protected from legal threats as they dont know where or who is hosting and they dont have a hosting provider to send the notices to.
With regular dumps of the site , taking it down becomes futile as there are copies out there in the wild, that can spring up the next day if needed. Its like a diversified seed bank if you will 😉.
People like to cheat on community servers so they can own those kids at bed wars or whatever. It’s not the same to mod your own server, because then you’re not exerting “power” over other people.
not necessarily. there are servers with no rules, like 2b2t where hacking is pretty much required because everyone else does so. interestingly, this means that the pvp actually loops back to being really deep and complex
getting ratted isn’t getting caught. a RAT is a remote access tool, which is commonly included as a trojan in order to give a hacker remote control of a victims pc
Fucking Lemmy.world is hot garbage. They’re down every day and are constantly defederating with any instance that doesn’t fit their narrow, sanitized world views. It’s also one of the most recommended Lemmy’s with more new users going there than anywhere else. I think it incredibly damaging in the long run to have 50% of active users on this platform to be centralized on one domain. Especially if this domain makes as many boneheaded decisions as lemmy.world

I agree, but 50% is still better than 100%. I definitely appreciate that I'm reading about this while being totally unaffected personally rather than just disappearing entirely like what happens with a banned subreddit.
We badly need Lemmy clients that can merge instances even if they’re defederated, as well as the other way around, filter out entire instances even if your instance won’t defederate from them. Letting instance owners dictate what you can or cannot see is not the way.
There are clients that will do the former (eg. Liftoff) but I’m not aware of any that will do the latter. I don’t understand why, it can’t be that hard to filter users and communities by instance.
The shit that really gets my goat, is that they had this patriotic spin to their comments about how it’s illegal. Like sure, whatever but you could just stfu and mind your business, y’know? Oh well, trolls gonna troll and get banned, lol.
The screenshots probably shouldn’t include copyrighted movies though, so it doesn’t get taken down from GitHub. You can replace them with Blender Studio projects studio.blender.org/films/
(Also there’s a small typo it says steam instead of stream on GitHub)
Thanks. This community needed your logical input. I’ve been following this over the past few days and it seems like a blatent Reddit-type pitchfork situation. Based on the mods response and the absolute lack of proof surrounding the mods profiting from the crypto miner (honestly who the actual fuck even came up with this?), I think we need to all take a beat.
Also I don’t follow cracked games but this Emperess person seems like a fucking psychopath and the fact that literally anyone here believes a word she says is absolutely astonishing.
I am asking this community to PLEASE STOP REPOSTING THIS. Don’t let this community follow the ways of Reddit, please. We are better than that.
I think this post should come with a huge disclaimer that IRC is highly addictive and a major time suck. If you’re trying to remain productive, avoid IRC.
This is awesome. I’m gonna save this and unfortunately probably do nothing with it. It’s something I’d like to do but I don’t listen to a whole lot of music and spotify is cheap enough it’s not worth the effort for me. But this is quite impressive.
