dpkonofa, w Weekend PC Game Deals: Sony hits, strategy festivals, bundled dinos, and more

Really? The best Sony can do is 25% off on these bigger games? They’re just convincing me to wait for PC sales and not buy the PS5 games. I’m not paying nearly full price for games I’ve already beaten. In the future, I’ll just forgo them on PS5 and wait for the PC release…

Syldon,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

I am spending more and more on older games these days. Every new full price game I have bought has disappointed me massively. I pumped hundreds of hours into Grim and the expansions for less than £20 in sales. Currently playing through shadow tactics: blades of the shogun. I bought that and the DLC Aiko’s choice for £8 earlier this week. There are a ton of these in the series, so i am set for a long time it seems.

My last full game price experience was Hogwart’s legacy. I have 108 minutes played. I reckon I have actually played 15 minutes in that. The rest was just video after video of story telling. I am normally someone who skips cutscenes, so this is a really bad match for me. Hogwarts has an 84% positive rating. A lot of people like this sort of stuff, just not me unfortunately.

karlhungus,

You aren’t alone. Forspoken was fun but they gated the gameplay behind a tonne of super slow paced unskippable town parts.

Maybe that’s what the like about dark souls series, right in the action rarely out of it.

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Welcome brother/sister to the world of being a patient gamer!

You avoid a lot of the hype. You get the game when it’s at the most patched up. And you save a lot of money too.

dpkonofa,

I’m already in that world. isthereanydeal.com is my best friend.

alsimoneau, w Starfield is now available for pre-load on Steam!(116.21 GB)

No preorders

spacemanspiffy, w Counter-Strike 2: Beyond Global

I am excited about the game and all but what happened to just a server list? I fail to see how that isn’t way better.

Chewy7324,

Server lists have it’s place and I hate how many current multiplayer games don’t expose it (they most definetly have it for development purposes).

But most people playing these competetive games want a rank to compare themselves and also be able to rank up. They also want to be placed in a match according to their skill group eithout wauting for someone to leave. A server list isn’t compatible with those features.

At least that’s what I gathered from people online and my friends who were opposed to messing around in a private lobby. Luckily CS:2 will most definetly have private server support with server lists and mods.

Summer 2023 in the southern hemisphere maybe? I guess they can still technically hit that summer timeframe within the next 3 weeks.

Bethesda games are full of bugs, ill wait a year or so before i decide to buy it or not. Dont get me wrong, FO4 is still my favourite game of all time, so im sure ill like it. I bought FO76 at half price and i still feel ripped off, so I will wait and see how they screw up starfield.

Instrument_Data, w Starfield is now available for pre-load on Steam!(116.21 GB)

Cool, but no preorder, I prefer waiting for reviews once it is out.

No

Been available to preload for at least the past 18 hours.

Fiivemacs,

K…I’ll wait for actual gameplay videos before I jump on this hype. Zero trust in the gaming industry, or any industry anymore. Too many pricks lying to steal money

Gameplay videos are out already

Fiivemacs,

Oh cool, I will go watch. I refuse to pay attention to anything cinematic or scripted, it’s typically not an accurate representation of the game.

Fiivemacs, w On October 12, Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf and all of its DLC will be removed from the Steam store.

In honor of strategy games, were removing strategy games.

hansl,

I don’t think that one will be missed much. Unless you’re an addict to WarHammer, AFAICT it’s a poorly ported mobile game that’s filled with DLC and monetization.

cyberpunk007,

Then good riddance.

chemsed, w Just got my first entry level gaming pc! i have about 30 bucks to spend, what should i get for it?

Here are my recommandations on what is better on PC because of the advantage of mouse and keyboard vs controller by genre:

Strategy: the first thing I wanted to do when I bought my PC is to play Age of Empire 2 and Starcraft 2 and they still are the top games of the genre. It’s night and day compared to their console games like Halo Wars. I recommend also the Civilisation series.

Simulators: Cities Skylines and Microsoft flight simulator are fun games and nothing looks like it on console.

MOBA: AFAIK, MOBAs like DOTA 2 and League of Legends only exist on PC because it’s unplayable on controller. I don’t like these kinds of games, but it’s still something that you won’t find on console.

FPS: A mouse let you have better control on your aim, but it’s less relevant in games with crossplay multiplayer where the aim assist on controller is strong like in Apex Legends and Halo Infinite. Recently, a lot of people enjoy Battlebit.

Awall,

Although Cities Skylines is the goat city builder it’s not the cheapest game in the world with all of the DLC which adds a huge amount to the game. I’d definitely wait it out with CS2 right on the horizon. If you can get the first game on a wicked sale it’s still worth it but CS2 is looking amazing!

Lt_Worf, w Blizzard notes Overwatch 2's review bombs but insists players say it's "in the best state it's ever been"

There’s a difference between the gameplay and the greedy, manipulative monetization.

The gameplay itself is solid and polished better than just about any multiplayer game out there - anyone who tries to argue otherwise is letting their (justified) anger toward Activision/Blizzard influence their judgement.

The monetization feels gross and disrespectful of the playerbase. It’s like we have this well-made AAA quality game, but it’s inside a vegas casino. Even if you enjoy it, you have to deal with this unsettling feeling of being scammed the whole time that you play.

kibiz0r, w Blizzard notes Overwatch 2's review bombs but insists players say it's "in the best state it's ever been"

They’re not wrong. Overwatch 2 is in the best state it’s ever been.

Unfortunately, that state is: “the same game as Overwatch 1, but with a worse monetization scheme”.
