That’s the point. Denuvo states that their goal is to prevent piracy the first couple of months while the game is hot, so people cave into buying more. Then after a certain amount of time they remove it because it’s not longer needed and will get cracked at that point.
That's how denuvo is supposed to be used, doesn't mean it is how publishers do use it. The moment the game is cracked denuvo stops being useful. Doom Eternal actually launched with a drm free exe as mistake in the first place so it's never been very useful :p
Doom Eternal did release two major DLCs though, which might explain why they’re keeping denuvo for so long. I’m going to try the game again later to see if it’s running even smoother without denuvo.
DRM is what keeps me from buying. And makes we want to wait until there are significant discounts, to not do too much to help them pay for the implementation of DRM.

Why did they include questions in their faq that they didn’t want to answer? “Protecting IP” isn’t a benefit to the player, and claiming there’s no performance impact “at all” from denuvo is absolutely a lie; everything a computer does uses resources and therefore impacts performance, though you could argue how noticable the impact is.

id has always been a crack team of developers where performance is concerned. The fact that it was possible to get Eternal running on Switch says a lot.

The guy has been a con artist for decades, and he hasn't made a playable game since the 1990s. He also hasn't "over-promised his games", as the title of the article so cutely claims. Rather, he has lied through his fucking teeth to steal money from people, over and over and over again, and lied some more to steal more money, and lied some more, and lied some more. I'm sick to death of these pathetic redemption pieces for this no-talent loser. He's a thief and a liar, nothing more. He's not a genius. He's not a creative maelstrom that needs to be reined in. He's just a fucking liar and a thief, same as Elon Musk, same as everyone else who has tried to sell this particular brand of con artistry over the years.
I mean, you can blame him for a lot of stuff but he designed quite a few iconic games. Most game designers will spend a lifetime and not achieve just what molineux achieved in the 90s.
Cool! I got this in the summer sale but haven't had time to play it yet (I finished Doom 2016 first). I didn't know it had Denuvo DRM. Is there an easy way to check my library for Denuvo games?
Nintendo did the same thing. I don’t remember the exact details, but they took a pirated copy of NES Super Mario Bros and were reselling it on another platform. As much as a dislike Nintendo and Take-Two/Rockstar for their business practices I can understand that it’s probably easier to just take back “stolen” and modified code and use it for themselves instead of repeating the process of getting around old copyright BS in order to resell the game.
Tldr: Nintendo outsourced the work for dumping NES ROMs and developing a NES emulator for GameCube and that contractor added the standard headers to dumps they made from original cartridges provided by Nintendo. Someone saw the headers and drew conclusions.
Rockstar used securom for the original disc release
Razor (an infamous piracy group) cracked the game shortly after release but only for Windows XP (Vista didn't exist yet)
Rockstar released the game on Steam "without securom" but in reality is just using Razor's crack
Fans eventually (like a decade later) realize there's Razor signatures in the executable on Steam
Rockstar pushes an update with a new executable, however this wasn't properly tested and is broken due to how the anti-piracy acts.
