Pizza Tower x Pokemon crossover is finally happening

RandomStickman, do games w Pokémon Legends Z-A - Reveal Trailer
@RandomStickman@kbin.run avatar

Pokemon Z is finally real. Seems like a futuristic setting instead of the past like the last Legends game?

phi1997,

I think it'll be the recent past, showing how Lumiose came to be what it is in X/Y. A prequel story could do wonders for X/Y, fleshing out Lysandre with an actual backstory could make him interesting.

thantik, do games w Pokémon Legends Z-A - Reveal Trailer

Oh yay, another game that looks like it was made in the 90s…

How do you know? The video doesn’t show any of the game.

  • catloaf,

    Honestly that would be better than the 3D that runs extremely poorly.

    Neato,
    @Neato@ttrpg.network avatar

    I’d take another gameboy/DS-esque Pokemon game. Those at least were competently made.

    thantik,

    I’m just so tired of repeating terrain textures, water the looks like garbage. I’ve seen single-developer indie titles that looked, played, and were better written than the last 5-8 pokemon games.

    Carighan,
    @Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

    If so, try Cassette Beasts. Actually blew me away completely unexpectedly, combining smarter combat, really neat pixel graphics, inventive monster names that are of course all terrible puns, and a really really great combat soundtrack that dynamically gets vocals when you fuse.

    Only downside is that it makes modern actual Pokemon games look even worse by comparison.

    thantik,

    You wanna know a secret?

    You can do both!

    But Gamefreak knows you people will buy it regardless. Why waste time making a good game, when it’s not going to matter?

    ElderberryLow, do games w Pokémon Legends Z-A - Reveal Trailer

    This looks cool but will probably watch others play instead of getting it myself. Waiting for a Pokemon game on the next console. I think we’ve maxed out the Switch.

    NOT_RICK,
    @NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

    Gamefreak has yet to make a Pokemon game on the switch that doesn’t run like garbage so hopefully they can do a little better this go-around. I won’t be holding my breath though.

    caut_R,

    I wish they‘d stuck with what USUM did visually but in higher res and obviously with more eye candy. Neither the hardware nor the studio seemed to be ready for full 3D Pokemon.

    De_Narm,

    The hardware is more than ready, there is no way in hell that 3D Pokemon would need more hardware power than Monster Hunter Rise or any Xenoblade game did. Monster Hunter Rise even had a horde mode of all things, using models that are way more complex than any Pokemon.

    phi1997,

    Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee actually ran well, with only occasional dips. Not sure how their first Switch outing was also their most polished...

    NOT_RICK, (edited )
    @NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

    You’re right, although I’d hope the reskin of a 20 year old game would run ok.

    phi1997,

    It was more than a reskin, with a new catching system based on Pokémon Go, but yeah, the area design was pretty much already done

    Rai,

    I was also shocked at how well Arceus ran.

    kosanovskiy,

    They don’t have to compete, palworld offered little resistance or trouble for them. You are comparing 3m sales of a base game to 30m. The only thing they might consider is either adding more functionality in game (which is good) but still based on Arceus, I doubt art or optimization and graphics will be of importance.

    EdibleFriend,
    @EdibleFriend@lemmy.world avatar

    lol it’s a joke my man. I know they aren’t in the same league.

    Neato,
    @Neato@ttrpg.network avatar

    Well Palworld is just a bland survival game that has pokemon in it. The major interesting thing Palworld does is a base/farm simulator where your workers have different specialties and can assign jobs. I highly doubt Pokemon will go that route.

    So the only other thing Palworld does is that it doesn’t run like dogshit and is concurrent multiplayer. So if we get either of those from Pokemon I guess that’s a win?

    Eezyville,
    @Eezyville@sh.itjust.works avatar

    You think that will happen with GameFreak as developers? lol

    EnderMB,

    It might be bland, but the fact it’s been marketed as “holy shit, it’s like Pokémon if Game Freak gave a shit” says it all about the Pokémon franchise.

    FWIW, I doubt they’ll change a thing. People will buy anything with a Pokémon cover, and Game Freak know this…

    De_Narm,

    None, I’d imagine.

    caut_R, do games w Pokémon Legends Z-A - Reveal Trailer
    1. I still have no idea what the game‘s about
    2. It‘s likely cross-gen with the Switch‘s successor and I hope it‘ll be technically more competent than their last Pokemon game - especially since it‘ll have to run on the original Switch again
    Neato,
    @Neato@ttrpg.network avatar

    I hope it‘ll be technically more competent than their last Pokemon game

    We all do but S/V sold like hotcakes so I highly doubt it. They really have no incentive to spend any more time or money that absolutely necessary to churn out games.

    Zoomboingding,
    @Zoomboingding@lemmy.world avatar

    Legends means it’ll use the open world battling and catching mechanics seen in Legends Arceus.

    Also features city planning, could be post-war reconstruction in the past (3000 years ago).

    Also, the mega symbol at the end implies new Mega Pokemon.

    And since it has a 2025 release date, hopefully it will have enough time to bug fix. Likely, it will use the existing Legends Arceus engine so hopefully that allows them more time to refine.

    Carighan,
    @Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

    That’s probably the point here. They’re intentionally not showing anything and not saying too much because this is the launch game for the Switch U or whatever it’ll be called.

    After seeing the USA part of the video I understand why Cyberpunk always happens over there, what are those lack of rights holy shit, “it can’t be fraud because you had no right to your game to begin with”.

    It’s like the law is some insane reality where you are a criminal for utilizing software after support was closed down, but in real life the game is effectively yours if it’s a single player. Also “the gaming sphere is very unique on it’s abuse of the lack of consumer protections”, I hope this industry rots to the bone, but I’ll still try to contact my national consumer protection agency in Brazil, Ubisoft is particularly big over here so maybe something can be done.

    Great game. Awesome game. Runs like shit in late game even on modern hardware unless you keep things smaller and boring + the modding situation sucks a lot. Fun enough to still be worth playing. Hopefully someday they’ll make a sequel to address some of these issues or someone else will make a similar game with better performance. Sins 2 is a thing but it’s only on epic and I don’t use Windows. We might get a steam release some day but until then I’m too lazy to pirate it.

    Sin's is a game my friends and I always come back to. Such a dynamic rts with so many ways to win.

    The expansions are fairly priced and also one person having an expansion is enough to host an expansion game for everyone who has any version installed.

    That’s quite the old game to review. I remember playing to it even before Stellaris launch.

    kboy101222,

    Mandalore reviews mostly older games.

    Give his Mystery of the Druids or Limbo of the Lost videos if you want to experience some of the most absurd games ever made.

    nimmo,
    @nimmo@lem.nimmog.uk avatar

    Haha, that’s fair. I was being sincere.

    I’d initially scrolled past thinking “I played this whilst I was still at Uni, why is anyone talking about it now?”

    Now that I know this person’s focus is intentionally looking at older games I’m willing to go and give it a watch.

    kboy101222,

    Ah, awesome!

    Yeah, Mandalore does some newer stuff (I think he reviewed the newest Total War Warhammer game as it came out), but it’s mostly older.

    I’d also recommend the Ring and Anonymous Agony videos if you want more utter absurdity. Fair warning with Anonymous Agony, it’s as edgy as edgy can possibly be. And the Ring is complete nonsense but still a great time.
