I played Quake 2 on the Oculus Quest and it was the best VR experience I had. The port is perfect. It’s like the dream of my younger self since it was my favourite game then.
More than a bit corny (and I loved that clearly bamco just figured “Vaati likes Souls, Vaati likes AC” so Vampy had to ask awkward questions about how Vaati is a long time AC fan) but I loved it overall. If anyone wonders why that interview was so awkward? Vaati basically only ever touched an AC game earlier this year when he did a speed through of the series (and I think he didn’t even play the expansions for the most part?). Absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I loved his stance on the “is this mech souls?” debate, but it was definitely funny.
Because… this is Armored Core. We were always the sickos. Our games controlled horribly, were horrendously balanced, had monetization/distribution models that made no sense, and had weird ass plots that we constantly shoehorn into some semblance of a narrative. And we’ve been playing these games even while we loved Souls games. The “showcase” SHOULD be corny.
Also, calling my shot: Oro fucked his build for a reason. There is some ridonkulously powerful shoulder laser (Shoulder mounted Karasawa?) and he got REALLY used to that build. So when he switched to the starter cannon he had all the energy drain with none of the insane DPS to justify it.
It wasn’t a scam, it just kinda sucked. They fixed the suck.
That’s exactly what I want to see from a game dev. If the game sucks, make it right. Ideally don’t release a sucky game, but the next best is to fix the sucky game.
Last couple south park game were pretty good. Decent enough games, but enough south park humour to make them enjoyable for fans. Can’t speak to the n64 game though.
As far as i remember the games back then were pretty shit, because they just told random game studios to make South park games. The games were just clones of other games like mario kart. (I did like that dumb ps1 game tho) and trey and matt weren't really happy with it so they "made their own" starting with stick of truth. That's why there was a sudden shift in quality.
I can't be the only one thinking that your image looks like a knockoff of "Star Wars: Rogue One". Same font, same alignment of words.... Make the game YOUR game. Don't rely on familiarity with other brands to draw people in. They'll be disappointed when it's NOT a Star Wars game and you also open yourself up to legal issues from Disney, who owns the star wars brand.
No worries. In case that came off overly critical, please know I just want you to shine. Not accusing you of anything. Just want your unique self to show through. That's part of the beauty of an indie project; it's not the same corporate stuff.
The fact that Danny got those tapes from giant bomb makes me happy. I know the boys at GB these days are putting in work but aren’t gonna be able to use them and Jeff has other work on his plate with the kids so Danny being able to use the fact that documenting video games is his bread and butter is so great
Oh man, I played so much of this game growing up. Yeah, a lot of the flak it gets for repetitive gameplay, poor controls, and edginess is somewhat justified. At the same time, I feel like this was perfectly aimed at mid-2000s kids who wanted a more "mature" and "adult" Sonic game without really understanding what that meant.
Have the whole week off from work just to play this. 2.8k hours, with many more thousands of hours to come! The Factory Must Grow! The Spaceship Must Grow!
Okay so I've watch some of the video and I'm annoyed by it. A problem in the video has been highlighted when it comes to indie games and that's genre favoritism.
Indie game development seems to have such a hard on for roguelikes, strategy and anything that is addicting with retro visuals. That to me throws a lot of red flags. He does show some other games from other genres, but the ratio is evident. A lot of the games don't really impress me that much and that's coming from someone who has already been spoiled with the best of what indie gaming had to offer in previous years.
That guy is also kindof annoying too. "I realllly want to play", "addicting" .etc
I’ve been pretty vocal about my annoyance with the roguelike genre. I even have the tag blocked on Steam so they’re never recommended to me - my hope is that Steam shares metrics on tag-blocking statistics.
But, I would guess there are enough fans of them to keep being made.
I’d say this is mostly due to budget constraints. Voice acting, music scores, high fidelity art, models, animations etc cost a ton of money. Making random generated boards / levels / dungeons with simple art and scalable gameplay is simply just more feasible.
Another aspect is the popularity of the game. We’ve seen a lot of saturation in genres over the years. A the peak of PUBG and Fortnite popularity, there were so many battle royale games coming out. Then we got extraction shooters, and so on.
Personally, I love roguelikes and how we got to the point of mixing it with other genres (Balatro, Dungeon Clawler), but I can see your point. I feel the same about 2D (pixel art) platformers: I feel like I’ve seen it all already and nothing can excite me anymore.
