fraydabson, do games w Game Pass subscribers are snapping up Starfield’s $35 early access offer (extra on top of game pass)

This paired with the Xbox play anywhere system is nice. 2 years of game pass.

sugar_in_your_tea, do games w Game Pass subscribers are snapping up Starfield’s $35 early access offer (extra on top of game pass)

What happens if you buy that and then cancel GamePass? Do you keep the game? Just the upgrade? Or do you lose everything? Do you get it back if you resubscribe?

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Well it’s just the upgrade that they’re buying. So they’d just have the DLC without the game. Kinda like if you bought a game’s disc, then bought the upgrade, then sold the disc. Basically no access to anything that requires the game to load up.

Mr_Buscemi,
@Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You’ll lose access to the game but you’ll still own the DLC/expansion. If you resub on gamepass then you’ll have access to the game and the DLC you owned again.

mothersprotege, do games w Dragon Age Dreadwolf keeps getting delayed internally, report claims

I think at this point the best plan is to mash all the assets together and release Dragon Effect. Mass Dragon? No, that sounds like maybe a Catholic dragon. Mass Age? No, people will buy it expecting a massage. Maybe subvert all expectations and go with Age Effect! We’ll throw out all the magic and aliens, it’ll be a harrowing exploration of human mortality.

LetMeEatCake, do gaming w Dragon Age Dreadwolf keeps getting delayed internally, report claims | VGC

Not surprising.

Bioware has spent over a decade chasing mass appeal for their games, to the detriment of what they’re good at. They made that work as they shifted from 2D to 3D to action-3D. That stopped working as they went too far, abandoning their core strengths. Bioware hasn’t had an unmitigated success since… ME2 in 2010? That’s 13 years of them floundering, with the very mitigated successes of ME3 and DA:I early on in that.

That kind of floundering is going to filter down to everyone working there. It’s hard to bounce back from that. They know Dreadwolf needs to hit it out of the park if they hope to continue on. Easy situation to end up in development hell with delay after delay…

hagelslager,

And it certainly doesn’t help that a great “classic Bioware” game was released by Larian (… again).

At this point, I won’t believe Dreadwolf is coming out until it’s for sale on store shelves.

NaoPb, do gaming w Todd Howard wants Elder Scrolls 6 to be ‘the ultimate fantasy-world simulator’

If they give it fair weather, I’m in.

[edit]

And reintroduce features from Daggerfall that have since been removed.

brsrklf,

Skills and spells that outright don’t work and unreadable maps from hell ?

Just joking, I know how impressive Daggerfall was, but wow did it feature some of the trademark Bethesda jank already.

NaoPb,

I was expecting someone to mention all the bugs and crashing of the game, hehe. That is something I would not miss allright.

rich, do gaming w Xbox boss would ‘love to find solutions’ so games aren’t lost when the 360 store closes | VGC

But…aren’t they all already backed up by the preservation community? Redump, etc. I haven’t checked admittedly

gk99, do gaming w Veteran Call of Duty designer David Vonderhaar has left Treyarch | VGC

Here’s hoping Treyarch can carry the torch without him. They’ve always been fantastic game devs and have been the best CoD studio for years.

Wonder what he’s doing now.

DracEULA,

I remember back when Treyarch was considered the B team that got the side projects, but even then World at War was the only game in the series I ever really liked.

Mandy, do gaming w Tencent is bringing back military FPS series Delta Force

tencent

Well, straight in the trash it goes than, a shame

all-knight-party, do gaming w Sources: Ubisoft has cancelled its Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel
@all-knight-party@fedia.io avatar

Such a shame, I would've been more interested in this game, but the similarities to both Breath of the Wild and AC Odyssey meant the itches it scratched were already taken care of for me, and partially by the same publisher, too.

MantisToboggon, do games w Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 likely axed, as Take-Two says it’s ‘paused’ development | VGC

Fucking dicks!

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Having played it on PC, if they got that running acceptably on a Switch 2, I’d be shocked.

nfreak,
@nfreak@lemmy.ml avatar

I played through it once (twice?) and put a good amount of time into endgame. Fun game for a bit, better than 3 at least, but god the performance is abysmal.

Abundance114,

I played and refunded after my 3080ti had a hard time getting 60 fps in 1080p.

TalkingFlower, do games w Life is Strange: Reunion officially announced, will conclude the Max and Chloe saga | VGC

I don’t know how they are going to salvage this…

Stupendous, do games w Netflix has agreed to buy Warner Bros, including game developers behind Mortal Kombat, Hogwarts Legacy

Netflix gaming has existed to support it’s streaming business. I imagine the WB catalog being used for that. At best maybe some native Android and iOS ports of WB games. But I think the highest potential is a GeForce Now competitor except a Netflix catalog rather than Steam

Darkness343, do games w Valve confirms Steam Machine will be priced ‘like a PC with the same level of performance’

As long as I can buy it with one Troy ounce of pure gold and not more, it’s a good price.

CleoCommunist,
@CleoCommunist@lemmy.ml avatar

No its gonna be 0.5674392 Troy ounces of pure Gold

sugar_in_your_tea,

That’s a rip off, it’ll be more like 1/4 troy ounce, if that

Darkness343,

Acceptable price

echodot, do games w Valve confirms Steam Machine will be priced ‘like a PC with the same level of performance’

A PC of similar performance is about $550 so I don’t get what they’re saying about it not been priced like a console. That’s about exactly what a Series S would cost.

simple,
@simple@piefed.social avatar

A PC of similar performance is about $550

where did you get that? With the price increases of pc components in recent months, it’s more like $750+.

Truscape,

Used market prices, probably. An 8GB VRAM video card and an appropriate CPU that wouldn’t bottleneck performance could easily fit under $500. I guess nowadays the RAM would be the hangup lol.

echodot,

I don’t know why people keep insisting that the current prices are relevant. These products have been manufactured for months now, so we need to be looking at old prices not current market value.

echodot,

I didn’t use prices from last week I used prices from last year because that’s when Steam would have actually made their devices. Manufacturing of the steam machine and the steam frame is rumoured to have occurred around 2023-2024, should the Trump shenanigans shouldn’t have affected things too much.

That’s not to say that somehow much the devices will cost it’s just how much it would have cost to build. How much profit they’re going to try and make on them is an unknown. With the steam deck they aim for $100 profit margin, but who knows with this device. The steam frame is also an unknown because it’s a weird configuration.
