Naughty Dog did some solid storytelling in TLoU. It would be great if they could figure out how to apply that well to a game that isn’t on rails.
“I think some of the best storytelling in The Last of Us – yes, a lot of it is in the cinematics – but a lot of it is in the gameplay, and moving around a space, and understanding a history of a space by just looking at it and examining it.
I do appreciate this in game worlds, although this alone is not a substitute for storytelling, and not enough to make an open world fun. The world has to be interesting and diverse, full of unique things, characters, places, and situations to discover, so players will want to spend their time exploring it. Evidence of the world’s history is great for adding background depth, but I’ll be bored quickly if that’s all there is.
Here’s hoping Naughty Dog makes something brilliant in this genre that they aren’t known for (have they ever done an open world?) rather than repeating the mistake other studios have made by churning out another open world of monotony.
a crime if true. The article says that it “will include ‘more than 15’ playable games from the series’ history”, and they only list 9 in the article and trailer, so maybe it will be one of the versions not listed?
Not to burst your bubble, but that is a screenshot of the “Time Warp” mode from the trailer. Although if they built the GB style into that mode, maybe that is promising for getting the actual GB game in the collection?
This may be true after all since Nintendo owns the Tetris license and this could be competition for switch online so perhaps they didn’t want to agree to the full GB version
But they have the NES / Famicom version of Tetris, which is owned by Nintendo too. Unless they mean the infamous Tengen / Atari version on NES (some say its better, but there were legal trouble because of Nintendo).
Oh absolutely, I just listened to the clip and he said they did commentary “at a much more thorough level than anybody’s ever done it” 🤔 I wonder how that could possibly be true
Most people have just two speakers, and if you have headphones a good stereo surround software can actually be even better than the surround from multichannel
This scrub is why Brawl ran in slow motion and included random tripping because the 5 melee players scared him with enjoyable competitive gameplay.
It’s probably because they didn’t want to pay Dolby licensing fees, not because it makes a 2 second difference in the loading screen.
even see how this would affect the loading screen considering I run live AC3 encoding on an old laptop much older than the switch and it has zero effect on the boot and login time. nvm it was a GC game.
Basically every Wii game shipped with Dolby Digital no issue.
I guess if an ‘epic games account’ is only functions for Unreal Engine devs, it’s much less interesting to attack. But it’s also for fortnite and more other games.
I hate that I might be in the victim pool when I have that account merely for Unreal Engine. If only they would separate developer and gaming account.
Deus Ex, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Mario, Need For Speed, Sonic The Hedgehog, Tomb Raider etc. all have had AAA reboots and not always following the same formula as the originals. AAA games tend to chase the latest trends, reboots included. This isn’t to say all AAA reboots fail.
True about Deus Ex. But then the original was very much an early 2000s PC shooter (which do not work on consoles) and Invisible War was a disappointment.
Mortal Kombat
The first reboot didn't change the gameplay all that much. It was more of a story-necessity to do a reboot: Armageddon ended with all the fighters dead. Ditto with MK11 but MK1 did change up the gameplay a bit more.
Mario
Mario? Mario as a franchise never really has been rebooted. Certain genres of Mario have though, like New Super Mario Brothers on DS.
Sonic
Oh boy...are you talking about 06 or Boom? Actually it doesn't matter... Both are examples of how not to reboot a franchise.
Tomb Raider
The tomb raider reboots (both of them) do kinda make sense as all three eras are completely different gameplay styles.
Can't comment on NFS, never really paid attention to the franchise.
