Who gives a shit? I love Mario games as much as anyone but this is just free marketing for nintendo. It’s not news. It’s a nothingburger and you don’t even get a reacharound for posting it
For everyone chiming in with piracy (which I support): Layden is more calling Nintendo fans “junkies” than advocating for 80$ prices. His message (even in the face of Ryan’s LSG push) has always been “first party exclusivity sells consoles”.
It’s the only platform I have to play it on, and switch doesn’t support the new space age expansion.
It did get many of the 2.0 updates, like the extended belt reader, free circuit wires, and all inserters are filters.
As far as acceptable, I love it. I’m sure I can’t build the crazy 10k science per minute monstrosities I’ve seen on youtube, but I’ve never really run into an lag issues with the bases I’ve built.
I imagine it’ll run much better on the Switch 2, given how well it runs on my Steam Deck, though I imagine that it would take a lot of adjustment to get used to using joystick controls versus the touchpad controls of the Steam Deck. Perhaps however the new ‘mouse-like controls’ work will be more helpful in that regard, but I can’t imagine even that would match the precision of a trackpad.
Don’t intend on supporting Nintendo’s crazy price increases myself, and will only get a Switch 2 if a way to hardware mod it becomes available, but I think it’s a bit ironic that the one non-first party game someone would specifically want to play on the Switch is also the one that not only never goes on sale, but also got a price increase.
Nintendo keeps shooting themselves in the foot. On one hand, as a PCMRer and massive fan of Valve, I’m glad to see how many are open to moving over here. On the other hand, Nintendo was the last console manufacturer I actually liked (despite their anti-emulation crusade) and so it’s like a death of an era.
The future really is in console-like PCs a la the Steam Deck and Valve’s upcoming Fremont.
I should probably get around to continuing Witcher 3. I just have a mental issue with quests and choices blocking other quests that I just end up reading the wiki. Help me.
I would absolutely love it if games started going back to the original Borderlands 1 style maps/areas. The type of maps that were more small-medium sized area that were completely self-contained sections of a larger world.
Weird. In the West, we’ve been welcoming small(er) but interesting, unique or otherwise impactful games regardless of its size. Complaining about Warzone taking up 250GB on your hard drive and stuff. And that was 2020.
mine as well, mine was off so long I needed to manually update it via flash drive to connect to the internet for some reason, I just haven’t felt the need to use it
I don’t have a problem with low-resolution artwork; I think that it’s often an effective way to reduce asset costs. But when a game makes it big, as Balatro has, I’d generally like to have the option to get a higher-resolution version of it. For some games, say, Noita, that’s hard, as the resolution is tightly tied to the gameplay. But for Balatro, the art consists in significant part of about 150 jokers. That’s not all that much material to upscale.
EDIT: And specifically for Balatro, I think that it’s worth pointing out that there’s a whole industry of artists who make (very high resolution) playing cards for print.
That’s a large variety of competently-done, high-resolution artwork.
Now, granted – Balatro doesn’t use a standard deck; it’s not a drop-in approach using existing decks, the way it might be with a typical solitaire game.
But it seems kinda nutty to me that there are artists out creating decks, but only selling them in small volume, and also video games that sell in large volume but don’t have much by way of card artwork options.
they DID add those crossover decks recently, and the dev has indicated that there is more additional content coming. Idk, I think having the cards in HD wouldn’t look right, because the entire game has a specific kind of pixel art. Even the smooth, swirly background has a pixel art filter on it, bc that’s the vibe that the dev really wants the game to have. Mixing them would be like when pixel art rpgs have super hi-res fonts. It just doesn’t fit right.
