I don’t care about Palworld, but I do hate Nintendo. Enemy of my enemy and all that.

chunes,

I don’t care about it either personally, but my wife really enjoys playing the game with friends, and I’m pissed on her behalf. Luckily, she’s told me the devs are being really good about making the changes feel good (not like a punishment).

I feel like I’ve been using this metaphor a bit too often, but: Nintendo is shitting its pants to make Pocketpair (PalWorld dev) smell. So far, the results of the litigation have been slightly bad for Pocketpair, but really bad for Nintendo - just the sheer amount of negative publicity is likely costing Nintendo more money than it could ever get from this turf war.

It’s been a good while since I played, but I thought you rode the pals to fly? How can they have a patent on riding flying things?

MangoPenguin,

Especially since that’s a thing that almost every MMORPG does too.

Transtronaut,

Riding is unaffected, it’s only hang gliding that got removed. But it makes just as little sense in that context. None of this patent trolling is justifiable, Nintendo is just using the broken Japanese patent law system to crush competition from smaller companies making better games.

Nintendo, ruining peoples fun since… forever.

Telorand,

This. Stop buying their shit due to FOMO, and make them work for your money.

ryannathans,

Just stop buying their shit lol

They could. Or Trump could fold tomorrow. No one knows. I don’t even think Trump knows.

theangriestbird,

i think the article specifies that this is a new forecast based upon the Trump admin solidifying the final shape of the tariffs. So it seems unlikely at this phase that they will fold the current numbers, but we all know how smooth and predictable the Trump admin is.

Ulrich,

There’s no “solidifying” anything with this guy. His reign is based on his whims and emotions.

Midnitte,

And everyone knows uncertainty is wonderful for the market and economy.

That’s lame af. Flying on my dragon dude between my bases was badass.

dodos,

You can still fly, it’s just gliding that got hit by the gaming mafia

I wonder how hard it would be for an “unofficial” patch to “somehow” be released that restores the previous functionality

Fuck Nintendo.

Not how patents work but whatever, Nintendo has more money so they’re in the right

69%? N… … …nevermind. 🫢

Serious now, I wouldn’t be surprised if USA’s video game industry was suddenly gone - because for countries not directly caught in the tariffs war, businesses outside USA (like Sony and Nintendo) will get another competitive advantage.

So can we please fork v0.5.4?
