Jesse didn’t really do it for me as a protagonist, not sure if it’s due to writing or the performance (I suspect both). Which is really a shame because the game itself is really fucking cool. I still recommend it to anyone, the gameplay is slick and the SCP/world building aspect makes it engaging and interesting enough by itself.
I see what you mean about Jesse. It’s been a while since I played it, but I remember her being cast as an unwilling and unlikely hero, which can be a hard role to write well. Also, the acting was a bit stilted at first. I think she got better as it went (both the character and the voice acting).
Happy Holidays! My Steam Deck has an issue where the power button isn’t doing anything. I keep it docked most of the time but Silent Hill 2 will freeze up the system and the system will need reset. I can’t tell if it’s a software issue or hardware issue (I’m leaning towards Hardware). I need to crack it open and figure it out. I’m worried though I’ll need to solder on a new power button though which would be a bit irksome.
It’s my only source of PC gaming right now because I bought it over a gaming desktop years ago due to it being better for my lifestyle at that time (I was/Still am a student who spends a lot of time on campus so portability is nice). Luckily if I can’t fix the power button issue, Alan Wake II inspired me to start planning a full size gaming rig so I can do Fancy Shmancy Raytracing and 4K without FSR
Probably because I tried to see how far he could swim out and he ran into an invisible wall. I know I’d be pretty depressed if I ran into an invisible wall and discovered I was confined somewhere
Gotta admit, I saw this and thought that’s beautiful and I want to play this game. What game is it? Then I read it’s Uncharted 4 and I’ve already played it. Maybe it’s time to revisit?
The whole game is beautifully designed and polished. I’d play a walking simulator made by naughty dog, no questions asked.
Naughty Dog has a pretty good track record with pretty and polished games. The only bad one that springs to mind is the PC port of the Last of Us Part 1, and even then i believe Iron galaxy handled that port (which is surprising it came out buggy because they also handled Uncharted 4’s PC port and afaik it came out fine), and from what i know now it’s been fixed too
I’m playing this game for the first time right now. It’s safe to say that it captivated me. The world they created is astonishing. Even after well over 50 hours I’m not bored at all.
Your post really captures the beauty that can be found if one takes the time to look. Thank you for your relentless posting!
One of my favorite things to do is get lost in the world. There’s so much detail that makes it feel alive. For example I was playing today and was stopped by this lady who complemented my horse and challenged me to a race i won
Which Linux distro are you using? I’m considering switching over somewhere this year, but I’m not sure which distro would be best for gaming + regular user stuff.
Not op but I’m using Fedora. I installed NVIDIA drivers from the “app store” then downloaded protonqtup, Steam, and Heroic. I’ve only had one game not work, and that’s Deathloop. Everything else is fine.
I suggest trying out a few distros using live bootable images, and picking one you find comfortable for regular user stuff. There is no “best” for gaming; all the major desktop distros can do it just fine.
Wow. I feel like i’m really experiencing California Traffic. It’s just as bad as the real thing.
I hope California drivers aren’t as bad as the NPC drivers in this game. Any minor obstacle has a 50% chance of sending them into panic, ramming other vehicles and wedging their own into positions from which they cannot easily escape, when they could have just steered around it. It gets so laughably bad that I have sat and watched them try for 10-15 minutes at a time, wondering if they’ll ever manage to drive away.
I saw a car hit a divider barrier on one of the interstates while driving around the city, then back up, And hit it again. I’m not really sure why it was doing that but I wish it had kept going just so I could keep watching
The first notes you hear after entering the castle are etched into my memory. Even when running the game later as an adult those notes can still affect me.
Atticus, I highly recommend getting the PC port of this game. Choose the Render96 option, and relive what the game probably looked like to all those kids back in the day. It also has some extra neat things like bringing in some of the move set of Odyssey, a mode that allows you to collect all the stars in the level in one go, and much much more. :)
Have you tried out any romhacks? the ones coming out recently are great! launchers like parallel launcher integrate with websites like romhacking.comWhole new experience of the game with new moves and scenery.
I’ve played a few, nothing major though. I played Super Releasio 64 a few times. I never beat it though. I’d always get to the Bowser Boss fight and be unable to beat It due to one of the Cheats the Rom Hack switches on and off to mess with you
