Nothing significant has changed since the original modern warfare. At this point they’re bringing back “classic” maps from like 4 years ago? They’re clutching at straws.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s a fun game. It’s probably the best multiplayer shooter out there, but it’s wrapped up in many, many layers of turds and disappointment.
The launcher
I hope the Microsoft acquisition means they do away with it and go back to a regular launcher.
The battlepass
I wish games stopped treating me as a product and made games that were just fun, like Baldurs Gate 3 did. I shouldn’t have a battlepass that prioritises player engagement and forces me to be connected to the game season after season as if I’m on some sort of life support machine. Just let me unlock some cool skins and let me go and play some of the other games without feeling like I’m missing out.
Annual releases
When Warzone came out, and they had their first iteration of the new kind of Call of Duty games (with battlepasses), I won’t lie, it was some of the most fun I’d had since the original Modern Warfare games. Why throw it away and abandon that game for another one that comes out a year later and just sucks? Yes, it makes them more money but it fragments the player base and forces you to abandon all the perks you’ve spent ages unlocking through the battlepass.
This is such a great reply filled with disappointment. I did play MW2 quite a bit. DMZ was fun. My wife and I played MP a lot too. I bought her the battle pass one time and she was able to get it again multiple times just from the coins obtained from completing it.
It doesn’t scratch the same itch though. Battlebit is more for larger scale battles like Battlefield the game it was inspired from. Cod is significantly more arcadey, smaller scale and faster paced.
The fact that this is probably a fairly non-controversial pick in a year that arguably had a bumper crop of great games really underscores just what an amazing game this is.
Truly, trying to decide between BG3 and Alan Wake 2 when voting for GOTY was like trying to pick a favorite parent, or child. Both so good, and huge achievements in unique ways. Stacked year for awards, that’s for sure!
Because we have been there already with Netflix, but what’s more evil here is that Netflix is not a juggernaut of a company like Microsoft. I don’t hate MS like most users on Lemmy, but even I can see how harmful this can be to the gaming industry. Indies will start struggling to breaking even if an average user just starts relying on gamepass.
Microsoft is becoming the Spotify of gaming. You own nothing, they pay the creators garbage and we are so dependent on the system it’s hard to leave it.
I suspect they are taking the Spotify approach. They will have a low price for a great value to monopolize the market. Then over time increase the price and reduce features and value.
Netflix a decade ago. Wow, this is so amazing. What a deal. How could it go wrong
Netflix today, okay, which subscription service to we get this month, I want to watch this show, but Sarah wants to watch that show and the other show we were watching got deleted from the service so we just can’t watch that one. If only we could learn from this situation
Gamepass is a “great deal” because Microsoft office pays for it.
Netflix was cheap because no one valued streaming rights initially, and thus there was little competition for those rights. Once companies realized how valuable the service was, prices shot up.
One of those strange situations where increased competition increased prices.
Yes, that makes the gamepass situation even more egregious. Everyone knows the cost of making games, but only Microsoft can afford to literally lose money for a decade to secure dominance.
No one can compete because everyone else has to run a real business
That’s fine. Nothing is stopping you from dropping it once it becomes a bad deal. I cancelled Netflix once the price became ridiculous. For games, it’s even easier, there’s many alternatives both legal and illegal.
What makes you think that will actually happen? Games still make a lot purely from game sales. Not to mention a lot of absurd cash grabs like the latest CoD would fail to work when there’s only subscription models. Besides, despite how cheap these services have been, game sales have not dropped either.
You 15 years ago: What makes you think movies will only be available on subscription services? they make a lot of money selling things physically today, Netflix is just a side revenue, it won’t change anything.
despite how cheap these services have been, game sales have not dropped either.
Could you not get Johnny’s 911 already? I swear I had it in my first playthrough when the game came out. And I hope the metro station is more than just a skin on pre-existing fast travel points. But it would be incredible if there was actual trains you can jump in running around.
The 911 should have been, I remember doing the quest to get it and then hating the car lol.
The metros are exciting, I used a mod that put a system for it in the game and it was fun to use. Though, what I'm really looking for is the ability to ride as a passenger in cars any time!
Yeah I don’t know what the author of the article is blabbering about. The 911 could be gotten through the Johnny Silverhand questline ever since launch. It’s the same quest where you can get Johnny’s pistol.
It’d be great if they re-released sc2 but retconned most of the story to make it not flaccid and disappointing. WITH A BETTER ENDING FOR TYCHUS. TYCHUS WAS HILARIOUS.
