Tolstoy, do games w Are there games with real collision detection?
@Tolstoy@lemmy.world avatar

Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord’s combat physics are awesome compared to the scale of the battles. Example: on foot, striking with a big hammer, you won’t pass the shield but if you swing from a horse at full speed you will. + modsupport

Did you ever play Divinity: Original Sin 2? Since you mentioned Baldur’s Gate 3, it plays a lot like that, just minus the license and a much greater emphasis on environmental effects. It was super well-received at the time.

SuzyQ, do games w What are your most recent games played?

Kiddos have been playing Space Engine on my account, but otherwise this is what I’ve been playing lately.

Garden of the Sea, I am Future, Havendock, Dinkum, Fallout 3 GOTY, Broken Lens, Bugsnax, Cult of the Lamb

I’m old and just started playing Far Cry 5 (haven’t played any of the others before). Very fun.

TachyonTele,

Im old too. I played the first FarCry. It was amazing. That was a time that driving a vehicle in first person view, having moving shadows based off of light sources, being able to see far away, and being able to shoot out lights was ground breaking. (To be fair 007 GoldenEye had lights you could shoot too)

Now there aren’t any games that let you shoot or destroy light sources.

I highly recommend the first one, Far Cry 3 and its stand-alone expansion Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Also, the first Crysis game which is very similar to Far Cry.

callouscomic, (edited )

I have played every Far Cry since the first. In my opinion FC5 is the worst. Boring setting. Far more mundane and repetitive than the others. The forced kidnappings were annoying. The ending was meh. I think FC6 was a refreshing change.

Personally Far Cry Blood Dragon is the best overall. The Vietnam DLC for FC5 is also excellent, even though short. FC4 is also great, and has a truly unique setting and was a lotnof fun with the gyro copter and Yeti. FC3 is good and fun, but it’s overrated.

FC2 I think is the best FC in a spiritual sense. For all its flaws, it truly set out to implement a unique concept the other FC’s have forgotten… that is you set out to accomplish something and everything will go wrong. You were supposed to be frustrated and overthink things. The setting was cool, the story was effed up, and the buddy system was kinda neat.

All Far Cry’s suffer from underdelivering on the story. So much potential with the villains, yet barely seen. People who brag about how cool Vaas is seem to forget you only see him like 3 times, he’s gone by like mid-game, and he wasn’t even the main villain.

Cultist Simulator is most fun when you really know nothing about the game and you stumble into things.

Bokura. This is a bit hard though since the Steam store page kind of spoils it but just get it and think of it as a cool short co-op puzzle platformer.

My wife and I played it. Lots of fun! Forcing ourselves not to look at each others’ screens for the puzzles and dialogue was hard, but definitely made it more enjoyable from a communication aspect!

I’ve been doing this for decades. I just get bored easily. But every now and then I find a game that works for me and I spend 1000s of hours playing it. At this point I probably have a 1000+ games and 70% of them I played 2 to 4 hours…

Bullet hands down. Best handling of all the sports cars, and the most pleasant motor sound.

electric,

Did it have that fiery exhaust in the middle of the trunk area or was that just in V? Only reason it remains in my brain drive, bitchin’.

I got a steam deck last spring, before that I’ve not done any gaming since I had a PS2 so I’ve got a good twenty years of games to catch up on. It’s a bit frustrating how crap I am at gaming, particularly with shooters. I’m trying some different things to try and figure out what I’m into. I recently finished bioshock, so I just bought bioshock infinite. Also alien isolation, Alan wake, resident evil, and Uncharted legacy of thieves collection. I don’t get a lot of screen time but I’ll find time to try em out and see what grabs me.

Since you have a Steam Deck, did you experiment with gyro and trackpad aim? I suck at controller aiming as well but that makes it so much easier.

Regrettable_incident,
@Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world avatar

Hmm no I haven’t. Thanks, maybe I should give it a try. I guess trackpad aim is just using the pads instead of the joystick? I’ve not used gyros at all, does that require tilting the device? Yeah I seem to be enjoying FPS games but I’m frustrated by how shit I am even on easy mode! I used to be good at unreal tournament way back but seems like games have come a long way since then and I’ve lost the knack.

domi,

You can combine as well. I usually use the stick on the left hand and the trackpad on the right one. You can also go back and forth while playing.

does that require tilting the device?

Yep, you can set it to activate only if your finger is resting on the right joystick. Very useful for precise movement, just bring the camera in an approximate direction with the stick and do the rest with the gyro control.

For the more popular games there’s usually a few community profiles you can download and try before messing with Steam Input yourself.

Regrettable_incident,
@Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world avatar

Hmm I’m not sure I like the idea of tilting the device - with the steam deck you’re tilting the screen too. Doesn’t that impact your view of the screen?

But I’m definitely gonna try your trackpad suggestion. Thanks, I’ll see how it goes. Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

Doesn’t that impact your view of the screen?

Depends on the sensitivity you configure, usually you only tilt a few degress. I do prefer it on a Dualsense controller though with no display attached to the controller.

Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

Usually for instances where I have time to aim. I have seen quite a few people who are really good with the trackpad but I’m more of a mouse or gyro control guy.

Trackpad rules in strategy games though.
