I’ve played, almost daily, since the mod was released in January 1999. Over a quarter century. I’ve got admin in a number of servers, so a lot of days I’m just hopping on briefly to make sure the servers are running smoothly and no one is trolling. New maps are still being regularly released, many by people who have been mapping for it for a solid 15-20 years.
No idea of total hours. It wasn’t added to Steam until 2016, but I have multiple thousands of hours logged since then. I’ve got to be over 10-12k hours since the beginning. Easily.
Everything else in my life has shifted. Sven-Coop is my rock.
The mod that got me into modding still has a special place in my heart. It was the Shockwave mod for C&C Generals. Shockwave absolutely could have been vanilla if EA deigned to finish the Zero Hour expansion. It was just pure polished perfection for that game.
The Super Nintendo Metroid game was/is my favorite, but I’ll admit I haven’t play most of the Metroid games, so I’m not a good judge.
The NES game was a ton of fun, but I felt and feel like the SNES game was just all of that and then some, if that makes sense to others.
I played one of the 3D Metroid games (the one on the Wii). It was fun, I enjoyed what I played. But it did not scratch the same itch, if that makes sense. In fact, I don’t think I even played that game to completion.
There’s a Sonic fan game I like to play called Sonic Robo Blast 2, built on an extremely heavily modified OG Doom engine with a pretty good modding community, and there’s a level pack for it called Sol Sestancia that’s just crazy fun to run through with the Neo Sonic character mod. Getting up to top speed to activate boost mode and trying your best not to slow down or stop so you don’t lose it. So satisfying.
Minecraft - mouse tweaks, Alex’s Mobs, The Bumblezone
Morrowind - I forget what it’s called, but the one that adds the mainland
Risk of Rain 2 - any character by Enforcergang. Especially classic sniper and rocket
I could swear my original US release had some weird combo of the two. I gave away 90% of my PS1 and PS2 games last year so I can’t check now, but I really think it had the main image shown from the Japanese release on the case. Maybe the image was shown in game on the loading screen or something and I am just remembering it wrong.
I’m at the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This game is all quantity over quality in my opinion. I also think, the devs never thought if the gazillion minigames or one-off quest mechanics are fun. Just add more and more, so you can brag about how much there is to do in your game. If players enjoy themselves, it’s a nice coincidence, but never a goal. I just want this game to be over at this point. The last couple of hours just completely destroyed any remaining interest I had
I just finished FFIX, which I liked a lot. I quite liked that it had themes that are usually more common in scifi than fantasy. I am however a bit disappointed with how some characters feel like the get forgotten after encountering them.
spoilerEspecially with Freya, I was hoping she’d have more screen time (both for Fratley and the burmecian genocide). On the contrary, I felt like the final boss came a bit out of nowhere and ending with Kuja would have probably been more satisfying.
I’ve also started Trails of Cold Steel 2. I have low expectations, after the disappointment that was CS1, but the start seems OK, although I’m always bothered by how the relationship between Rean and his sister is written.
There are a lot of games at 30 I’ve played through just fine, but for FPS games that extra 10-15 is about my minimum unless it’s on console with aim assist. I grew up playing Saints Row 2 at single-digit framerates, but I just can’t do that anymore.
Anything realtime needs to be at least 60 fps, the closer to my monitor 144Hz the better. Something like a city builder or turn based strategy or non-time-critical relaxed co-op stuff is fine to be 30+.
I’d never want to play any shooter at lower than 60, no RTS, no racing game and so on.
25 and above with drops is fine for me. I grew up with an ati card on low end machine so if the stupid game runs im happy. Don’t understand the stupid " 4k 250hz perfect black oled or its shit for stupid people" attitude. As long as my 1080p doesn’t ghost its fine. T. Made art for many games some of you have played.
