Look forward to Inzoi, I think it launches next year, they released the character creator to try it.

It lost its charm after sims 3.

Aielman15, do games w What do you think about random encounters?
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

They’re not the worst thing ever, but I’m happy when a game finds another way to challenge the player that isn’t “throw an enemy encounter at the player every ten steps”.

Nowadays I particularly enjoy games where the encounter is fought on the map itself instead of having a transition screen and a separate map. Games like Sea of Stars, or Yakuza Kiwami for example. I find that removing the transition screen also removes much of the tedium I feel with enemy encounters in video games.

ieightpi, do games w how is final fantasy XVI

I asked my brother this who’s a huge fina fantasy fan and he says it’s the best story wise since 10. 13 is just boring, 15 is so convoluted and bloated. 12 is pretty good but the retread in Ivaice always felt like a cop out. 16 is the most consice FF story wise in years.

LostWanderer, (edited ) do games w how is final fantasy XVI

I feel like the themes of slavery were so poorly handled that it shouldn’t have even been a plot point. The game would’ve been the same without them or with them; as they didn’t handle it with much nuance and doubtfully had the writing chops to do so. While the Boss Battles with summons are spectacles, they can get really dull the more you fight bosses. I would say it’s a mix of infantile oppressive fantasy to occasional brilliant scenes that made me question why this game was overall so-so. Those strong moments of writing never stuck around long enough to make a greater impact; it made me feel like two people were responsible for the writing of this game, and the worse writer won more often.

I wouldn’t say it’s the worst Final Fantasy as the FF 13 trilogy still exists, however, FF16 is a middling entry in the series.

tanisnikana,

As someone who adores the thirteen trilogy so much that I play through all three games several times a year and model my wardrobe and aesthetic off of it, I can respect there would be people that absolutely hate the game, but it hurts a bit inside.

LostWanderer,

Hmm…I just think the direction they took with Lightning and the other characters wasn’t ideal and the moment to moment gameplay was not the best; I said nothing about outright hate for the game. Furthermore, I only feel disdain for real things that could actually cause harm to the world.

I love Odyssey’s giant Greek world. It may be because I love Greek history.

Disclaimer: I haven’t played it yet, but I have talked to people who have liked it and who have hated it.

The games is very good, but it’s not a typical Final Fantasy game. They have removed, or reduced the RPG elements, and made it a very good action game with good narrative. So, if you go in expecting an RPG like previous Final Fantasy games you won’t like it. If you just go in expecting a good action / adventure game with some RPG elements, you’ll probably end up liking it

474D,

I think this is where most of the divisive opinions come from. It’s a great game, but it’s really not a final fantasy RPG, so many people aren’t getting what they expected. Personally, I found it to be a enjoyable surprise.

nogooduser, do games w Jedi Survivor could have been great

You’re right about the glowy baseball bats but I think that Jedi combat is a tough one to pull off well. You can force pull any of the lower enemies into a one shot with the light sabre as it is and there’s no reason that you shouldn’t be able to do that with all human sized enemies that aren’t force users except that it would make for a dull game.

The loot is shit but I don’t know what more a Jedi needs other than armour or blasters but they don’t really use them. It is very weird that I had to find something in a box for me to get the idea to not shave my beard so close.

koncertejo, do gaming w Let's discuss: Nintendo DS
@koncertejo@lemmy.ml avatar

Completely unique and very difficult to experience with alternative hardware nowadays (compared to the PSP which can be played on nearly everything). The games library is incredibly unique because small budget games still had a big chance to succeed.

t3rmit3, do gaming w let's discuss: non major systems

I kick-started the Ouya, years and years back. Played a few games on it, but it was just too underpowered.

The GCW Zero was another similar story; just an underpowered handheld console.

I really like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. It’s a non-major console that is 1000% worth the money.

sleepybisexual,

I also have an rp4 pro. I also have an ambernic sp.

I unironically want something like the ouya as a dedicated TV emulator box. For a 2013 device up to ps1 seems goob for the gcw. Tho open Linux handhelds are a dime a dozen now

t3rmit3,

My GCW is too slow to play anything, honestly. It struggles with even GBA games. I love the idea of the Ouya as well, but I think that I’ll probably just go with an rPi if I ever go that route again.

sleepybisexual,

Oh, I thought it was a standard up to ps1 system. Ya a pi or nodded android box is likely better

Caesium, do games w Splatoon 3: After 2 INK-redible years, regular updates will come to a close.

I hope they never try this 3-way team thing again. Made Splatfests feel so unfair. Especially with the arbitrary point system they used for calculating things. Kind just felt like they slapped whatever number they wanted to on a category and called it a day.

Last night I took a look at the (US) Splatfests for both 2 and 3. In 2, our of the 25 fests I partook in, my team won 14 teams. Pearl and Marina had an even 15 wins between all the fests.

in 3, I only participated in 16 fests, and my team won 3 times. Not only that, but Shiver’s team won 9 fests, Big Man won 7 and Frye a whopping 3. The balancing in this game felt fucking atrocious and I feel like that killed a lot of my motivation to play.

Now ofc Nintendo can’t really predict what team is gonna win when they make choices, but whatever changes they made to the point system did jack all in fairness in my opinion.

I think I’m just gonna go back to splatoon 2 after this

It'll never happen, but I'd honestly prefer for S4 to move on from Splatfests and do something else entirely. They've run out of ideas, a lot of the themes feel like filler just to keep it going out of obligation. At this point I just see Splatfests as a weekend where they take away Ranked and make everyone play the worst game mode.

Caesium,

I like turf war, but I definitely agree. Some kinda big change needs to happen.

I don’t know what would be a cool replacement but then again it’s not my job to think of one lol

ms_lane,

Imagine something like D-Day/Operation Overlord in WW2, but you’ve got 2/3/4 teams trying to fight up a Salmonid beach, big PVE event, but whichever team takes their beachfront first/gets the furthest in within the 3min timer, wins.

Bells, do gaming w I have been getting into emulation (discussion)

I used emulation to show a bunch of old PS1, PS2, and original Xbox games I had when I was younger to my partner. It was a fun evening, and they actually enjoyed most of them. They didn’t really get into gaming until the Wii, so it was nice to see their reactions to some of the older stuff.

But I agree with the other comments here, it should really only be used for preservation or things you can’t purchase from retail anymore.
