oo1, do games w Developer of WalkScape (the fitness MMORPG where you progress by walking IRL) here again. We're accepting new players and have a Lemmy community!

When you say “android” does it depend on any google services? Or will it run on lineageOS with no(minimal) google stuff?

schamppu,

The game requires Google Play Services for the pedometer to work (the game uses the new Recording API to count your steps while the game is closed). On GrapheneOS I’ve heard it works if you run it in a sandbox. You don’t need a Google account for the Recording API to work, and according to the developer documentation data is stored locally.

If you can run sandboxed apps woth Google Play Services, it should work, but I’ve not heard from LineageOS users any experiences.

oo1,

Thanks.

I’ll have a look if I can sandbox in lineage first, then maybe apply for the beta test if it looks possible.

schamppu,

If you apply, make sure to mention that! Would appreciate hearing if it works or not.

I thought I’d mention as it hasn’t been mentioned yet: the only way to install the game on Android is through Google Play. You also need to join a Google Group to get access on Google Play.

Yoshi's Crafted World is pretty ideal for a young kid, there's a special mode for young kids too where you basically can't fail.

MystikIncarnate, do games w What games have you sunk the most time into?

A nontrivial amount of my gaming time was reset by steam around 2010… IDK why, but there are games on my steam account that I know I’ve sunk over 100 hours into that show zero hours.

Right now, one of my highest is satisfactory, sitting around 1500+ hours.

menemen,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I used to play 1.6 and source. Then my family and job life had me quit playing for a few years. When I came back it said 1.6 hours for both. Cannot say when it happened though.

Never got into GO, but I was probably just too old to compete at that point.

MystikIncarnate,

Yeah, I have a ton of time into HL/HL2/CS:GO/Audiosurf/PvZ

Pretty much all of that was lost.

I did a quick Google search and according to some commenters on websites, the great reset was around 2010.

I’ve been on steam since the early days, I think I installed it around the time that blue shift came out? I forget. But back then, if you had any HL2 title, and you put that into steam, you would get what is now known as “the orange box” (more or less). So, yeah, I got a bunch of valve games basically free and I’ve only expanded that collection.

Recently I’ve tapered my spending on games because life/work/family doesn’t allow me a lot of time to play. Which is probably why I like satisfactory so much. If I get an hour, I can build my factory, save it half complete and go back and continue building later.

The biggest thing that I feel like SF has going for it, is that they give you all the tools, tell you the objectives and let you figure everything else out. You have 100% control over how you accomplish the task at hand. You can save/quit anytime you would like, and there’s no demands to get things done in a particular timeframe.

You can save halfway through a build, and you’ll come right back to where you left off. Most games now-a-days are match based, once you’re in a match, you feel obligated to finish the match, and there’s seasons or limited time objectives that you must play a minimum amount in order to even have a chance of getting… There’s just so much pressure, micro-transactions, and effort required.

I have almost 4000 hours in Factorio and didn’t play it for 2 years. I swear this game is some voodoo lifetime stealing curse.

  1. gmod 1,800 hrs
  2. Terraria 800 hrs
  3. Factorio 800 hrs
  4. Ksp 600 hrs
  5. Civ V 500 hrs
Bosht,

Fuck yeah Factorio! You should give Satisfactory a shot!

I know it’s a bit off topic, but is PlanetSide 2 approachable for new players still? I loved the original and tried the sequel when it came out but didn’t get much of a chance to play it. I’d be interested in giving it a shot

secret300,

By yourself it can be rough. But if you join a squad that is active in voice chat people will usually help.

magic_lobster_party, do games w Would "suggest price" be a positive option for steam?

I believe publishers already have good control over their prices. If they feel a game isn’t selling to the extent they wish, they lower the price. If it’s selling well, then they have no need to lower the price.

It’s market economy.

AlexCory21, do games w What MMORPG are you playing, and why?

Ive been playing Final Fantasy 14, but I keep getting distracted by other games that are not MMORPGs recently. I kinda rotate around different genres and games and stuff. I’ll try to stay on topic tho.

Guild Wars 2 was good. Idk if it still is because I haven’t played it in a very long time. I do have fond memories of Guild Wars 2 though.

The only other one I got my eye on right now is “WoW Ascension: Conquest of Azeroth”. They recently put out a new server with new classes and stuff in alpha I think. They have youtube videos of the new classes and it looks pretty cool. I’m watching that one for if/when it does an official release. Cause I’ve grown up on WoW and used to play it a lot. Wow Ascension does have other servers too but I’ve already played those.

Rekorse,

I literally just got an email from ascension. Its hard to say if its just regular marketing stuff but it seems to imply the new server is out and ready to be played on. I plan to check it out as well.

AlexCory21,

There’s different ones depending on what kind of experience you want to play.

  1. The default ascension server is “Classless”. Abilities are randomized from the base game content. And maybe some new abilities have been added too. I’ve already played this one and it’s kinda fun. Highly recommend. ;-)
  2. There’s one called “Project Ascension Classic+” which was just announced a few days ago. It’s a fresh start with the original classes and abilities and some extra ascension content. I don’t know if this one is available yet.
  3. And then there’s “Project Ascension Conquest of Azeroth”. This is the one im most excited for right now. It is technically available free on beta for a limited time i believe. But if you wish to play further you’d have to donate $35 to gain alpha access.

Right now, I can’t buy into the alpha due to budget concerns. And I’ve been quite busy during the holidays. But somewhere down the line in the future I’ll definitely try playing it.

All of the servers are free to play. And any alpha access I believe is just a one time donation to gain access.

Rekorse,

I didnt know about the classic plus server, thats interesting. I’m about halfway through satisfactory right now though so ive got time!

Old school runescape. I just get addicted to the grind until I need a couple month break.

Also I understand his house burnt down in the late 20th century, and the joy of rebuilding/furnishing was another motivation for the game.

ByteOnBikes,

Yep! That was the story in the book. He grabbed his wife and neighbor, and when they returned, everything was burned to the ground!

He originally wanted it to be about a game where people interacted with furniture to feel things, and it was called Dollhouse. But play testers found watching their Sims more fun.

DesolateMood, do gaming w What is your Game of the Year?

Call of duty black ops 3. Most of that time was spent in custom zombies maps, but the third party client that cleans up the cheater problem that plagues every old cod let me enjoy some occasional multiplayer, which despite being apart of the infamous jetpack era, I actually quite enjoy

BmeBenji,
