Im not referring to any particular cod game. Im referring to the whole series. Its triple A garbage that is churned out like pop music and its boring. Every new game is a rehash of a previous one with no innovation and more monetization.
Its not a review of the game. Its an opinion about the capitalist nature of the companies who make these games and how shit it is.
Yeah it was a joke man. CoD is exactly as you described but it’s irrelevant to the people playing it.
Sports fans go and watch the same team play similar games dozens of times over many many seasons. That’s what CoD is to its fans (FIFA, NFL, etc., similarly).
Both are not for me, but I get why other people like it.
Because you like Call of Duty so much it’s the only game you ever play? 🤷♂️
I hate this shit, and it really sucks because I like competitive games, and all the competitive games made since, like, 2015 have been loaded with FOMO MTX bullshit which the devs exckusively focus on while balance and bug fixes get tossed to the way side. They are banking on players having more fun spending money than actually playing a fun game.
Yeah it’s gotten shitty. I used to play competitive shooters all the way back to the original Team Fortress mod in classic Quake. It’s not really fun anymore, for me anyway. It’s way too overproduced and overmonetized, it’s become a serious business, there’s too much on the line so anti-cheating becomes a priority and it just sucks all the fun out of everything. I’m reminded of the scene in Ted Lasso where Roy Kent takes Jamie back to the little local pitch he grew up playing at with other guys on his street so he can remember what it’s like to just play the game for fun again where there’s no money on the line and nobody is watching you.
My suggestion would be have you considered getting into speedrunning at all? It’s highly competitive, but is available for basically every game imaginable, can be done solo and can’t really be gatekept by the multiplayer gods. And there are many different categories for all sorts of different playstyles. It’s not just a straight line to the fastest finish either, or grinding out the best run after thousands of attempts, depending on the style you get into there’s strategy and risk and RNG can sink you or save you. Most competitive fun I’ve ever had was speedrunning Legend of Zelda randomizers against people head-to-head. Same seed, same start time, green light go and your skill and choices will decide the outcome. There’s a lot of fun to be had, I think, and it goes in a lot of different directions if you take some time to look around the scene to find if there any parts of it that appeal to you.
Awesome! They don’t mention it anywhere, in a device like this it’s a selling point considering you can buy the cheapest one and still get good storage.
I loved this game, up until the difficulty ramped up quite hard and I just couldn’t proceed. Could be a classic issue of gidgud, but the shift was quite sudden, iirc. It’s been quite a while since I last played (early 2021, around ~13 hours, according to steam).
The game looks absolutely lovely, that style is absolute peak.
I don’t think it’s strictly 3d, but I’ve heard really good things about Cassette Beasts. The gameplay looks good and the art is cute.
TemTem on steam is 3d through and through. I played it forever ago and it was rather enjoyable as a Pokemon breakaway. There were some fun synergies. However it’s apparently kinda gone downhill since launch, so I’m not sure how worthwhile it is
Two occur to me: Chell from the Portal games, and Lufia from Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. And both of those almost don’t count.
I almost don’t want to count Chell because she’s almost not a character, but I’ve had quite a bit of fun playing as her.
Lufia is one of the rare SNES JRPGs not made by Squaresoft or Enix, it was published by Taito. Gameplay is similar to classic Final Fantasy, the story manages to be quite tragic. Lufia, the title character, is not the player character, Enter Your Name is the player character, and Lufia is a playable party member/his love interest/…well, play the game to find out. So there’s reasons why I hesitate to call her a “protagonist.”
I have to mention a fun thing that series did: Lufia 1 starts with a playable prologue/tutorial section where you play as some legendary heroes fighting an ultimate battle. Lufia 2 is a prequel, and it’s the story of those legendary heroes, which ends with that same ultimate battle as the final boss. In Lufia 1, the heroes speak very formally. They sound stalwart and brave and a bit old fashioned, as legendary heroes should. In Lufia 2, we know these characters more as real people, and the dialog treads the exact same ground but it’s much less formal, makes them sound less hypercompetent.
After beating Deus Ex 1, there was a time where me and some friends would install a coop mod and instead of playing through the game normally, we’d pick a map, clear it and play proper hide and seek.
It was really fun since you could easily hide under objects like tables, the lighting system let you essentially become invisible in shadows, the maps had a fuck ton of all kinds of nooks and crannies meaning plenty of unexpected hiding spots, etc.
Influencers (mostly vod and twitch based) have increasingly realized the way to move up to the next “tier” (or to maintain it) is to lead a “movement”. It is the logical extension of every new generation’s “All those people on X were corrupt and unethical and lying to you. Us here on Y are here to speak truth to you and will never let our opinions be bought. So make sure you like, comment, and subscribe and make sure to use my affiliate code in World of Tanks”
In a lot of ways? Concorde broke the gaming world. It was a game that drew a LOT of hate for having “non-sexy” female models and also suffered from being incredibly “meh” so nobody felt a real need to defend it. But it let the chuds actually “cancel” a game. Which aligned well with all of the various reasons Black Myth Wukong became The Most Important Video Game To Ever Exist.
So now all the influencers who want their own armies to harass and torment anyone they consider competition are trying to get in on that. Lots of verbiage shifts from “Wow, this game is horrible because those devs hate you. Unlike me who loves you” and more “Wow, this game is horrible and those devs don’t deserve to exist and people need to know not to waste their money on this” that translate to Call To Action style movements.
Rockstar: Abandoning and cancelling GTA V (single player) expansions and purely focused on milking online for pay2win. I’m not hyped for 6.
EDIT: The worst part - declaring war against modding community because it affected their online sales (since people enjoyed playing modded singleplayer). It backfired, badly, but they still went for it.
