Guidy, do games w What's going on with Borderlands 2? Steam is giving it for free, but the game has 23% positive recent reviews.

LOL. I loved the Borderlands franchise, until Epic made their evil dog shit app store and the Borderlands devs sold out to them. Motherfuck Borderlands forever now. Thanks for the warning so I don’t accidentally reinstall any of it from Steam.

baatliwala,

Bro get a life, it’s not that serious. Evil app store lmao as if they’re out to murder you and your family

outhouseperilous,

I know thats not a risk for you, but this data could genuinely be used by the us government to do that in the near future, for many marginalized populations.

Especially queer people and anyone who could be seen as an immigrant.

Some of us have real problems in life, and have to actually give literally a single fuck about the world.

baatliwala, (edited )

Yes, the government is going to get you by installing spyware in a game launcher that nobody uses. You won’t care a shit about or vet at code level any of the 200+ closed source games you will play in your life because they’re all fine in your fantasy land, but one game launcher is out to kidnap you.

outhouseperilous,

You know the parent company has military contracts, right?

BmeBenji, do gaming w Self insert power fantasy recommendations?

If you like Prey 2017, and you want to kill things like an absolute monster, and you want to play as a girl, Dishonored 2 is a good fit for all of those things. It’s not indie, and I’m not sure you can see boobs, but it’s a great game by any measure (though it’s not well optimized on PC). It’s not an RPG and it lacks the large skill tree of Prey, but it is an action-forward stealth immersive sim with cool eldritch super powers.

MummysLittleBloodSlut,

Thankies!

And then your life flashes before your eyes as they do a massive attack that either instakills you or deals 99% damage.

Final Fantast VI: Fallen One…. “So, you know that Megalixir you swore you’d never use?”

argh_another_username, do gaming w If you hear Latin, you're in trouble.

Oh the hate for the two health bars.

FooBarrington,

Oh boy would you enjoy the final boss of Sekiro, 4 health bars

moody,

The first one doesn’t count. It’s really just a formality.

FooBarrington,

Tell that to my gourds!

ramble81,

Never play most any Final Fantasy game…

colderr,

Spider-Man 2 has a cool thing where every single boss has at least 3 health bars technically. You beat it the first time and then a cutscene, then you beat it a second time and you get a cutscene, and then you beat it for a third time and you again get a cutscene.

The final boss is especially annoying, where it does that same thing but just 10 times (no joke).

The fights play out pretty similar too, which doesn’t help.

But I still loved the game!

NotASharkInAManSuit,

Spider-Man is one of the few games that I loved the long drawn out battles in, they made the combat in those games so much fun, and it made it feel like a proper comic book superhero fight.

yesman, do games w The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!

I just got my favorite game (Sekiro) to run on Linux! It wasn’t hard or anything, just the first time I’ve gotten a Windows game to run.

sandflavoured,

I’m playing Sekiro too! Such a fun game, so satisfying. And also kinda terrifying.

It was the first game I’d set up on Proton in Steam as well. What a world.

Sword Saint is the single most satisfying boss victory I’ve ever experienced, no action game NPC has ever made me feel more like I was being outskilled by an actual person

I never played it. Maybe now it’s the time because now its a retro game

Stern, do games w Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy teo longest eunning best friends.
@Stern@lemmy.world avatar

Hades did straight numbers, not a shocker they’d go for another. Couldn’t see Transistor or Bastion getting sequels, (Or Pyre but… lol Pyre.) and more importantly, I’d rather they tell new stories.

@mojofrododojo@lemmy.world avatar

tbh, I loved SuperGiant’s themes and aesthetics, but not their gameplay. So often early games of Bastion and Transistor felt squishy, or like I was playing underwater - the response loop from button push to effect on screen seemed laggy. Tried both on various platforms, never really got past that feeling. lovely soundtracks tho

BreadstickNinja,

Bastion is a 6/10 beat-em-up with 10/10 art, music, and voice acting. I enjoyed that game a lot (and still listen to the soundtrack on road trips), but boy does the atmosphere carry the weight of an otherwise average game.

Pretty forgivable since it was their first effort. Hades feels nice and crisp while keeping all the other points strong, too.

Supergiant games’ holy trinity: Bastion, Transistor and Pyre.

Also, the only Borderland games 1 and 2; don’t believe the lies there are no more true Borderlands games and no there most certainly is no movie.

There’s also one other, but you’ll need a crowbar or a gravity gun in hand for me to tell you about it.

inb4_FoundTheVegan,
@inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world avatar

Bastion and Transistor, sure. Without a doubt, imoactful clever stories that were well delivered.

Pyre always felt like a buggy mess tho. I tried multiple times to get into it but it’s just not on the level of the first two.

JackbyDev, (edited )

Feels odd to include Pyre over Hades.

Krauerking,

You are wrong about borderlands as there is one more and it is pretty muc h perfect.

Tales from the Borderlands.
Shame they never made a sequel for it but the artistry, music and story are all so well crafted. Someone loved Borderlands making that.

mostNONheinous, do games w What games are just objective masterpieces?

MAD MAX from 2015, while not tied directly to the new movies it scratches an itch I haven’t found in any other game. It’s dark and bleak and brutal. The combat on foot and behind the wheel are both incredible. Nothing quite like being in the middle of ripping a convoy 7 new assholes and being hit with a dust storm. It can be repetitive if you want to complete everything but BY THE GODS OF VALHALLA is it a fucking blast.

SnotFlickerman, (edited )

It actually is directly tied to the movies. The character who first gives Furiosa a chassis to build from isn’t quite as hunchbacked as in the game but he is credited as “Chumbucket!”

mostNONheinous,

No shit that’s awesome!

I think masterpieces is one word.

Quetzalcutlass, (edited ) do gaming w That fucking helicopter level

There’s a level in one of the Battlefield: Bad Company games where you’re ambushed by two attack helicopters in the desert and the only cover is a small building. Did I mention Bad Company has fully destructible environments and you’ve already fought in said building so it’s full of holes before the helicopters start blowing it apart? Or that a third helicopter shows up mid-battle?

It’s not too bad if you know what’s coming and preserve some cover, but if the building is in bad shape when they show up then you’re not going to have a fun time.

KotActually, do games w Steam Deck / Gaming News #17

Absolutely love these posts. Look forward to it each week! I’m really curious to watch SteamOS grow into something bigger for desktops someday.

While many of us would probably go to a more specific Linux Distro, having the option for the average user to move away from Windows (especially in a less intimidating or familiar fashion) is a big step forward.
