mox, (edited ) do games w What game do you recommend someone who likes the mechanics but not the setting of Baldur's Gate 3?

Maybe Solasta: Crown of the Magister? I haven’t played it yet, but I have read that it does D&D mechanics pretty well.

(My other ideas have already been mentioned by others.)

gaael,

Solasta is one of my current favorite games :)
It’s (imo) better than bg3 for dnd mechanics, combat is good, and the story is ok (it lacks the vastness of choice you get in bg3).
I recommend using the Unfinished Business mod (you can find it on nexusmods) as it adds lots of species and classes and some QoL improvements.

Caligvla, do gaming w If you could only play on one game console for the rest of your life which console would you choose?
@Caligvla@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Let’s say the PC doesn’t count and you aren’t taking into account backwards compatibility, emulation, online play, homebrew games, and the cost/availability of games.

I’d rather quit gaming altogether at that point.

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I game on PC myself but why would you quit gaming all together if you couldn’t do it on PC?

Caligvla,
@Caligvla@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because I don’t like consoles, plain and simple. Everything they can do I also can on my PC, except better and for less.

CorrodedCranium, (edited )
@CorrodedCranium@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Fair enough. I’d probably just go for the Xbox One in that case and deal with a few games still being moddable and supporting the keyboard and mouse as peripherals rather than give up on gaming

MurrayL, do games w What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

There’s a game called A Little to the Left that’s a whole bunch of lovely organisational + sorting puzzles

caut_R, (edited )

Got any more hidden gems like that which you could recommend?

moody,

Check out Unpacking. It’s less puzzle, and more organizing. Super casual, satisfying game about literally unpacking things into your apartments and houses as you progress through life.

It’s quite short at about 3-4 hours.

ColeSloth, do games w Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | Review Thread

I’ll play it in another five years when I can get the entire game.

boomer478,

Five? Lmao

This is still only the first disc. We have at least 15 more years before this is done.

ColeSloth,

I thought it was just supposed to be three releases. That get massively upped? I’ll probably never mess with playing it, then. I’ll just play the ps1 version rom with the graphics upscaled on my steam deck and call it good.

Ashtear,

It’s still a trilogy. In any case, Disc 2 of the original was much shorter than the first, and Disc 3 was almost entirely ending cinematics.

ColeSloth,

Oh good.

Also, yeah. I still have my PS1 copy. There was still a lot more game time than movie time on disc 3.

retrieval4558, do gaming w Let's discuss: Slay the Spire

Card based roguelites are one of my favorite genres and StS is maybe the best one. Wish there was more content.

Lately, I’ve been having a bit of fun with Monster Train on steam.

memfree, do gaming w Let's discuss: Slay the Spire

I prefer more casual games, but I do like Slay the Spire. I don’t think I’ve tried to get past A4. I got bored with it a while back and downloaded expansions. I LOVE Downfall and kinda like PackMaster, too. If I am feeling lazy, I will do a custom run and pick my starting cards, and choose ‘slow’ and ‘big game hunter’ options as well. It makes me overpowered, but – again – is enjoyably casual for a change.

knokelmaat,

Hey, games are supposed to be fun. So if you’re able to modify it in a way that makes it more enjoyable to you than that is 100% valid!

I’ll check out downfall!

AbelianGrape, do gaming w Let's discuss: Slay the Spire

I almost exclusively play for A20 heart kills. I play all 4 classes but in a “whichever I feel like today” way. I tried rotating between the characters for a while and really didn’t enjoy playing silent or watcher while in the wrong mood for those classes.

My favorite deck in recent memory was probably a silent discard combo with Grand Finale as the only damage-dealing card in the deck. My favorite archetype in general is probably ice defect. A good all-you-can-eat ironclad run is great too.

I don’t think I agree that STS is especially well balanced - some regular hallway combats do irrationally more damage on average even to players much better than me (for example, floor one jaw worms or any act 3 darklings). In general, the game could be quite a bit harder on A20 and still be fun for players who want a challenge. It’s also weird to me that A1 makes the game easier compared to A0. Between the classes, there is a class which is clearly stronger than the others. However I also don’t think this is a bad thing. Imbalances create more opportunities for new experiences, and for different kinds of players to have different kinds of fun. And that certainly agrees with “infinite replayability.” I’m sure in 5 years’ time I will still be seeing interactions I’ve never seen before.

Honestly, I’d probably download Garry’s Mod for the first time in years if someone were asking for a crew to play prophunt with.

GammaGames,

But then you’d have to download all 48GB of workshop files you subscribed to in high school because they were funny 🙃

pipariturbiini,

Idk man, shooting teletubbies and shreks with funny guns as a vocaloid character while my headphones go “BOOM goes the dynamite!” every 5 seconds is still pretty fun.

GammaGames,

Some things never change

kapx132, (edited )

we could play other Gamemodes as well. in case you are interested here is my discord name:

Admetus,

Jeez, I thought it was something less indie.

Buttons, do games w Are there any games like Diablo but not Diablo because Diablo?
@Buttons@programming.dev avatar

Because you want to avoid Diablo because Diablo, maybe you could get Diablo used on console, you don’t need a Blizzard account or an internet connection and since it’s used the money wouldn’t go to Blizzard. It might be an option, depending on why you want to avoid Diablo.

bhamlin,

That’s almost like saying that if you want to try meth, steal some instead.

tiredofsametab, do games w Are there any games like Diablo but not Diablo because Diablo?

Torchlight 2 should scratch that itch. To me, Path of Exile is something the Diablo series could have been but wasn't exactly? Though I haven't played it in a number of years, so I may be mis-remembering exactly what it was like. I seem to think it was more like a point-and-click RPG with kinda Diablo-like combat.

Glide,

Path of Exile has “evolved”, and not in a way I like, in the most recent years.

It’s a very fast, clear-speed focused game, now, more so than ever. Even inside it’s genre, it’s exceptionally build focused and not very interactive during play, which is impressive, considering these are things the genre is known for.

Etterra, do gaming w Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

That shithead skeleton from Undertale. If I an ever forced to play that game, it’s all genocide all day, idc that it’s the hardest mode. That game looks like ass and its fans are insufferable, but that fucking little skeleton deserves to be ground up and snorted.

Parrying in Arkham Origins. It took me SIX. MONTHS before I finally understood how to beat Deathstroke 😬

I have not seen anyone mention these, which is surprising. They are the definition of relaxing lol

  • Dorf Romantik
  • Islanders

Relaxing base builders with a nice soundtrack and a “get as many points as you can. Failed? No problem, just start over and relax again” kind of vibe.

Then there is duck game if you have some friends to relax with. It is hilarious.

Blueshift,

In that same vein: mini motorways and stacklands

Deconceptualist, do gaming w What is your game to de stress ?

IMO Mini Metro quickly becomes super stressful. I assume Motorways is the same.

Instead I would say Islanders is quite relaxing. Super minimal city building.

What I’d really like though is something for Steam Deck with a good flow state. Any suggestions? Lonely Mountains Downhill looks pretty good maybe. Someone else mentioned Superflight which is great but maybe too minimal.
