    +1 for Mark of the Ninja. The gameplay is so polished, great art direction, and simple but satisfying. It is a staple Klei Entertainment game. Not to mention the good story, at least as I remember. It’s not a new game, released originally in 2012, however there’s a remastered version on Steam.

  • Domiku,

    I’m really intrigued by this! How long do you need to play for it to feel “meaningful.” I find with a lot of MMOs, I need a few hours to really get into it.

  • Domiku,

    You answered it very well. Thank you!

    jcarax,

    Man, I wish I could play Journey for the first time, again.

    Oh my gosh, if you like Metroidvania stuff, play Ori and the Blind Forest!

    Even as someone who usually isnt a fan of the genre, this was fantastic.

    liminis,

    I’m still playing through it, but was really impressed at how much emotion it so far has managed to wordlessly convey. Definitely a special game.

    ArtVandelay, do gaming w What forgotten cult classic games are worth revisiting?
    @ArtVandelay@beehaw.org avatar

    Well, never meet your heroes… Or just never look up cult classics… I was going to recommend a little “game” I enjoyed, then I went around looking if there was an updated version… Turns out the creator decided to make some NFT crap based on it. What a disappointment.

    orbital_malice42, do gaming w Why I Probably Hate your Favorite Video Game's "Awesome Story" (an incomplete list)

    I’d say this is the result of someone asking ChatGPT for “rage bait post for a video game forum” but it has too much insufferable personality to be AI generated

    Vestria, do gaming w Why I Probably Hate your Favorite Video Game's "Awesome Story" (an incomplete list)

    This reads like dialogue written for the “pretentious writer” friend character trope who is always shitting on other peoples’ work but hasn’t ever had any success with his own in every B-list Hollywood meta comedy: smug, confident, completely wrong, and utterly without purpose or substance.

    Plus_a_Grain_of_Salt,

    Yes, there was an odd vibe here I couldn’t pin down, I think you found it.

    I never played it. Maybe now it’s the time because now its a retro game

    Stern, do games w Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy teo longest eunning best friends.
    @Stern@lemmy.world avatar

    Hades did straight numbers, not a shocker they’d go for another. Couldn’t see Transistor or Bastion getting sequels, (Or Pyre but… lol Pyre.) and more importantly, I’d rather they tell new stories.

    mojofrododojo, do games w Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy teo longest eunning best friends.
    @mojofrododojo@lemmy.world avatar

    tbh, I loved SuperGiant’s themes and aesthetics, but not their gameplay. So often early games of Bastion and Transistor felt squishy, or like I was playing underwater - the response loop from button push to effect on screen seemed laggy. Tried both on various platforms, never really got past that feeling. lovely soundtracks tho

    BreadstickNinja,

    Bastion is a 6/10 beat-em-up with 10/10 art, music, and voice acting. I enjoyed that game a lot (and still listen to the soundtrack on road trips), but boy does the atmosphere carry the weight of an otherwise average game.

    Pretty forgivable since it was their first effort. Hades feels nice and crisp while keeping all the other points strong, too.

    zipzoopaboop, do games w Looking to get into Sonic games

    Sonic mania is the only really good one since Sega made consoles.

    And go figure, it wasn’t made by Sonic team

    chronicledmonocle,

    Sonic Origins used the same engine and basically was like “people seem to like classic Sonic games. Let’s make Sonic Mania themed in Genesis era games”.

    And yet…they STILL fucked it up. Not as badly as they usually do, mind you, but still.

    alexaralvarado, do games w What games are just objective masterpieces?
    @alexaralvarado@infosec.pub avatar

    Supergiant games’ holy trinity: Bastion, Transistor and Pyre.

    Also, the only Borderland games 1 and 2; don’t believe the lies there are no more true Borderlands games and no there most certainly is no movie.

    There’s also one other, but you’ll need a crowbar or a gravity gun in hand for me to tell you about it.

    inb4_FoundTheVegan,
    @inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world avatar

    Bastion and Transistor, sure. Without a doubt, imoactful clever stories that were well delivered.

    Pyre always felt like a buggy mess tho. I tried multiple times to get into it but it’s just not on the level of the first two.

    JackbyDev, (edited )

    Feels odd to include Pyre over Hades.

    Krauerking,

    You are wrong about borderlands as there is one more and it is pretty muc h perfect.

    Tales from the Borderlands.
    Shame they never made a sequel for it but the artistry, music and story are all so well crafted. Someone loved Borderlands making that.

    mostNONheinous, do games w What games are just objective masterpieces?

    MAD MAX from 2015, while not tied directly to the new movies it scratches an itch I haven’t found in any other game. It’s dark and bleak and brutal. The combat on foot and behind the wheel are both incredible. Nothing quite like being in the middle of ripping a convoy 7 new assholes and being hit with a dust storm. It can be repetitive if you want to complete everything but BY THE GODS OF VALHALLA is it a fucking blast.

    SnotFlickerman, (edited )
    @SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

    It actually is directly tied to the movies. The character who first gives Furiosa a chassis to build from isn’t quite as hunchbacked as in the game but he is credited as “Chumbucket!”

    mostNONheinous,

    No shit that’s awesome!

    I think masterpieces is one word.

    Quetzalcutlass, (edited ) do gaming w That fucking helicopter level

    There’s a level in one of the Battlefield: Bad Company games where you’re ambushed by two attack helicopters in the desert and the only cover is a small building. Did I mention Bad Company has fully destructible environments and you’ve already fought in said building so it’s full of holes before the helicopters start blowing it apart? Or that a third helicopter shows up mid-battle?

    It’s not too bad if you know what’s coming and preserve some cover, but if the building is in bad shape when they show up then you’re not going to have a fun time.
