uhN0id, do games w Grayzone Warfare?

Haven’t played since close to launch (because it was very laggy). I really liked the idea and had a lot of fun when it was working. I haven’t played in a while so I can’t comment on the current state of the game but if you like Tarkov or DMZ there’s a good chance you’ll like this game. It feels like it’s somewhere between the arcade feel of DMZ and the milsim feel of Tarkov.

I also like that it’s one big living map. I haven’t tested it but I’m pretty sure you can be in one zone and run all the way over to a totally different zone (what would be considered a different map in Tarkov). The map feels super big. I’m excited to check it out again.

Yeah I have been apprehensive about buying it cause I keep hearing it’s laggy

I also don’t like buying unfinished products but I also recognise the need for ongoing funding or ground up funding.

But I don’t want to throw money at something and find it’s a total disaster.

I might wait a little longer.

Cheers mate

Skunk,

I play it since launch and it is not laggy (if it becomes laggy just change server). It had some connection problems at first but nothing too bad, you just had to retry once or twice.

The major problems players complained were not enough helicopters spawn use to “fast travel” around the map (leading to queues of people waiting for an airlift or just walking to destination) and some AI having god sight and shooting you in bushes.

There’s been several updates and the roadmap is public.

I enjoy the game but I play very slowly, I still haven’t unlocked everything. The missions are nice, I like walking in the nature to enjoy the scenery and snipe people.

I like that it is PVE or PVPVE. Other players are usually helpful and talks on the proximity chat (at least on pve) so you can be a lone wolf and participate in a more difficult assault with randoms passing by.

I’d say look at some YouTube reviews but be aware, some of those players finished the game in 48 hours and are complaining that they have nothing left to do (duh) so they want updates (which are coming).

If I hadn’t already I would definitely buy the game, maybe not on full price.

That’s fair, so you can play on your own. That’s good to hear, I don’t have a great overlap with my gaming friends.

I’ll keep am eye out for a sale and give it a go then.

After staring at my screen for 45 minutes trying to pick a game for the weekend, I decided to start up The Sims 3 again. Just like always, the addiction is back! It seems like at least once or twice a year I go really hard on it for about a week.

I enjoy PC as I can emulate classic console, DOS, etc. games too. My OS of choice is Linux

I’m not sure I’d call Rimworld “small”, though I guess it is a relatively indie studio. It’s a popular game with a lot of content.

For “small” games, I’d recommend also Nova Drift. It’s sort of asteroids + path of exile + a slight roguelite element.

t3rmit3,

I’m going by development budgets, not scope.

I wish people would consider Rimworld and Kenshi AAA, and CoD ‘A’, based on scope or hours of playtime offered. :)

I was about to start mouth foaming, but got to the end of the name distant worlds:universe

If anyone is giving these a go make absolutely certain you’re not buying distant worlds 2 by mistake.

Chciałabym aby istniał fork Session Messenger z możliwością stworzenia wlasnej sieci i możliwością komunikacji z oficjalnym serwerami

Have you tried Cosmoteer? It’s a pretty satisfying shipbuilder with resource and crew management, trading, and quests. Similar vibe to Reassembly.

t3rmit3,

Yep, I’ve played it!

I got into gaming late and don’t have a ton of time to play, so I’m not a super experienced gamer. I LOVE No Man’s Sky. Any thoughts on which of these I would enjoy most if I feel like branching out?

t3rmit3,

I think that depends on what you love about NMS.

If you’re a fan of the procgen exploration, Avorion, Starbound, or Elite:Dangerous

If you’re a fan of the multiplayer interaction, Eve Online or Star Citizen.

If you’re a fan of the base-building, Space Engineers or X4.

If you’re a fan of the Alien interactions, that’s very tough, but probably X4 or Star Control 2/ The Ur Quan Masters. xD

There aren’t a lot of other single games that have as many systems as NMS does.

I think that I would probably say start to check out X4 if you want 3D, and Starbound if you don’t mind 2D. Be warned, X4 does not fit well with “not much time to play”, though.

rozwud,

Cool, I’ll definitely look into those when I get a chance. Maybe Starbound to start with. Thanks!

So many great games mentioned, like Sins of a Solar Empire (will have to get back into it sometime), Homeworld, Freespace, and Galactic Civilizations. Thanks for reminding me of them!

Oh, and since we’re on the topic, here’s a great playthrough by Tom Francis that showcases how great the Galactic Civilizations II AI is.

Although, I have to ask: no Endless Space? Not even 2? I had a great time playing it, to be honest. Probably not as complex as the aforementioned GalCiv but it was a ton of fun for me, nonetheless.

No love for the old classic Alpha Centauri? The drones need you …

t3rmit3,

I do love Alpha Centauri! I’d probably add that under “space-adjacent” games.

Great write up, thank you for sharing and I can’t wait for Part 2! I’ve never heard of X4, but now you’ve got me curious to check it out. I appreciated your thoughts on Stellaris. I played Stellaris after Crusader Kings and found myself wishing it had a little more of Crusader Kings in it, so it’s interesting to hear you describe it as having “a high focus on randomized events, narrative events, and overarching story lines.” Maybe I need to give that another chance, too.

t3rmit3,

They’ve really added a lot with the DLCs, but as usual with Paradox it’s crazy expensive to get everything at once.

EVE always fascinated me, but at the same time how beginner unfriendly I’ve heard it is + feeling like I’ll probably not last long before I get killed off makes me wary of trying it.

If Outer Wilds counts as AA, then I’ll nominate that next (even if I still need to finish it)
