I think this is a good place to link Stop Killing Games. There’s currently an EU initiative under way to mandate that developers have to plan for the retirement of games with online services in a way that customers can still enjoy the game after the online services are shut down.
If you are a citizen of any EU country, please take your time to read through the initiative and sign it.
It’s a difficult issue. If Putin did release a game, did we know beforehand? How widespread was the knowledge? How did this info come to light?
I guess it’s similar to reports about crunch culture in many game studios. Do we want to support that and buy the game?
Or sexual harassment by C-level, same question.
Many people might not care, but some do and it’s still information to consider.
What’s interesting to me is of course how cheaply Bioshock got made compared to today’s blockbuster hits. Somewhere, we took the wrong turn in regards to modern game development, truly....
One thing this article gets wrong is the usage of REDkit.
To quote from the mod page:
Q: Is it made with redkit?
A: Not really, I spent 2.5+ years on making this mod, there were a bunch of tools which I used, including some ehich I had to write myself (wolvenkit Json converter, many python scripts for processing entities, meshes, generating setup scenes etc). The mod is built in radish system. Redkit was helpful in fixing some animation bugs on last development stages.
So it did help, but this mod probably could have been released without the new mod tools.
Idk, maybe it’s just that I’m comparing too much of the Witcher 3, but the story and importantly sidequests in Horizon Zero Dawn are mediocore at best for where I’m at atm. I’d concur it’s better than Bethesda though.
Does anyone have any experience with doing this? It’s not for myself, but for someone who isn’t tech inclined. I want to set him up with FOSS to avoid future shitification by azn. I know I need to strip drm, and then convert out of amz formats, but really have no idea how to do this. Any help would be appreciated! -j
Make sure to use an older Kindle for PC version. I think I have 1.26. With that version you also need the KFX input plugin.
With the plugins installed, you should be able to drag the files you downloaded with Kindle into Calibre and have it detect them.
The next step is conversion. Be very careful here, Calibre likes to fuck with images. You’ll probably want EPUB as the target format.
Set the target device to Tablet, or your images get resized.
Also disable the title image resizing in the last register.
I’d recommend you set these setting as default, so you don’t forget changing them.
Yeah, we know. That’s how updates to games work. If it didn’t change forever, it means they had to roll back the update and someone’s getting fired....
If they just focused on the drama and fun stuff there would be no issue imo. The weirder videos are sometimes fun to kill time, but it’s clear they’re making a lot of mistakes (look at any server video by them).
Trying to provide accurate and in-depth reviews really isn’t their strong suit.
I’ve had this question looking at the Quake con sale, and Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth is for sale on both platforms. I ended up buying it on GOG. What is your opinion?
As someone also using Linux, Steam has an official client, the workshop and is continuously advancing gaming on Linux. While GOG promised a native client years ago they haven’t delivered and Heroic has much fewer features than Steam.
