Caboose12000, do gaming w What unusual genre mixing video games would you recommend to try?

ICEY might be a good one to check out. It mixes cynical untrostworthy narration (like from the Stanley parable) with a 2D side scrolling hack and slash. some people say it doesn’t quite measure up on both fronts, but I enjoyed it. it has a nice art style too

Doublepluskirk, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of October 8th

Baldur’s Gate (in act 3 now), Lies of P, and just dipped my toe into Warhammer 40k Darktide. It’s quite nice having very different games to bounce between.

I’ve got Cocoon waiting a well. I heard it’s quite short so maybe I’ll boot it up on an evening where Lies of P is kicking my arse too much lol

frog, do gaming w The gaming industry needs to become more like holywood

Absolutely agreed. I think because the gaming industry is relatively new, it lags behind other sectors on unionisation, and that is definitely something that should change. Not necessarily to emulate Hollywood, but unionisation definitely.

seitanic,
@seitanic@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

There needs to be a tech-workers’ union. (Not just for gaming.)

frog,

Yeah, that would be ideal. Although whether game artists would be best fitted to a tech workers union or an artists union (which does exist in some places) is a question that would need to be answered.

teawrecks, do gaming w Can anyone recommend let's play channels or streamers wherein a group of multiple people play single player games together?

PlayStation Access have some really nice let’s plays. The Skyrim Christmas special is amazing!

Loading Ready Run streams a lot of stuff. And you might like the dessert bus for hope fundraiser happening in November.

Rekhyt,

Specifically I would say the following streams fit the bill:

  • Let’s Nope (horror)
  • Let’s Watch (Steam garbage)
  • Rhythm Cafe (rhythm games)
  • Talking Simulator (hard to describe)

    I mean… if they’re asking for advice about a gaming rig, the gaming community seems like a pretty relevant place to ask.

    We have shoddy repair places here in the US too, but that’s no reason to make people to hunt for some region-specific community for their hardware questions.

    cujo,
    @cujo@sh.itjust.works avatar

    The down votes are because you suggested that Gaming is not the correct community to ask about Gaming hardware, and it’s hardly a barrage. There’s nothing wrong with the advice you’re giving, especially since you seem to have regionally appropriate knowledge that many others don’t have. This is still the appropriate place to ask their question. Likely it’s because, whether you intended for it to be so or not, your opening statement comes across… abrasive.

    Much better! Less aggressive. Your initial comment had a sense of reprimanding the OP for not posting in the “right place,” and I’m certain you didn’t mean to come off that way, just that you thought they might get a better, more specific answer from a more specific community, is that right?

    I appreciate the civility and willingness to discuss. :)

    Haui, do gaming w Current PC is too bad for Cities Skylines 2. Can anyone judge the PCPartPicker list I've put together?
    @Haui@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

    Heyo! Your question led me to check some stuff since my wife wants to upgrade at some point as well.

    Since we are slowly moving away from the intel/nvidia/windows ecosphere towards amd/linux/open source, we figured she should go with am5 when she changes her motherboard.

    The b650-s and ryzen 5 7600 combined with gskill ripjaws s5 32gig. All together was roughly 500 bucks. The cooler needs to go on top obviously. We already have a gpu but if we needed one I‘d probably go with the amd 7600 since it is fairly new and pretty cheap.

    Just so you know, I have put in quite some reaearch on gpus recently but nothing else so I‘m fairly positive about the gpu, a little less certain on the rest. The 7600 is not far from the 6700 xt imo and better in terms of fps per dollar/euro.

    The nvidia 3060ti is pretty much the same but I think amd is the better decision going forward since nvidia is being a dick about their drivers forever and amd is more futureproof if you leave windows.

    Good luck with your build.

    Asemundus, do games w Browser games you have burned a lot of time on?

    Slither.io is definitely my most played browsergame. It gets way more fun with a mod that lets you zoom out a little, as the bigger you get the worse the experience normally gets…

    fbmac, do gaming w What's the most surprising facts about a game you've gleaned by reading a game's achievement/trophy acquisition percentage?
    @fbmac@lemmy.fbmac.net avatar

    there must be a small number of players that torrented it then bought it after they played and things like that

    curiosityLynx,

    I’ve got an unhealthy amount of hours and money (games, DLC) invested in various Paradox games because I once pirated EU3 on a whim.

    My Steam Library now contains CK2 with most gameplay DLC, CK3 with most gameplay DLC, EU4 with all gameplay and content DLC, Stellaris with most gameplay/content DLC, HoI4 with most gameplay DLC, Sengoku, and other Paradox games that aren’t grand strategy like Magicka 1&2.

    And both my hours in CK2 and EU4 are in the 4 digit realm, though admittedly that includes times where I played in bed, fell asleep and the respective game kept running.

    Mechaguana, do gaming w What are some games similar to They are Billions other than Age of Darkness and Alien Marauder?
    @Mechaguana@programming.dev avatar

    Frostpunk. Get it and take a break on life. Factorio the game is a permanent one.

    CrabAndBroom,

    Frostpunk is my “try really hard to not implement fascism and inevitably implement fascism anyway” simulator.

    Kaldo, do gaming w What are some games similar to They are Billions other than Age of Darkness and Alien Marauder?
    @Kaldo@beehaw.org avatar

    Riftbreaker has a much more “hands on” action approach rather than being an RTS but you might like it, it’s a good game.

    Im also waiting for Diplomacy is not an option to leave early access, seems like a promising title although it’s kinda simple.

    Would you say Age of Darkness is worth buying now or should I wait until it’s completed? It looked interesting but reviews are mixed when it comes to bugs, technical performance and content overall.

    Catastrophic235,
    @Catastrophic235@midwest.social avatar

    Tried both of these, while fun they aren’t quite what I’m looking for. Riftbreaker is definitely on a higher level then DINAO.

    I would say go for it, AFAIK the game is mostly complete (IIRC only big things left are the last 3rd of the campaign and faction-specific models for buildings, possibly multiplayer) and while the bugs can be pretty bad they aren’t very common, usually get fixed quickly, and tend to only occur after major updates. Nothing I would consider inappropriate for an EA game at it’s stage in development.

    xtapa, do gaming w How to let my kids find quality games on Android? Right now they only find the pay to win / ad riddled games.

    Usually, I find ports of PC Games best. I don’t know if they are suited for 9 year olds, but broken sword, baba is you or papers please are really good on mobile devices. Point and click in general is a very portable genre for mobiles.

    AceFuzzLord, do games w Browser games you have burned a lot of time on?

    I remember spending a lot of time playing browser games from Nitrome.

    Mutiny, that cave runner game, Dirk Valentine, Ice Breaker, Bad Ice, etcetera.

    I also played a lot of the Bloons series. Hell, when I found out about BTD5 flash, I thought it was some fake fan made game that would give me a virus.
