I have a conspiracy theory that the game tracks your total playtime and rewards people who play a lot of support and tank with better dps queues. I mostly play support, but if I queue as both Support and DPS I will almost always get a DPS game, last night I got 8 games in a row as DPS.
Yeah I hated all the time warp boss fights especially. I gave up on the game on the last trip back to the beginning area. I LOVED the side quests and general gameplay loop but whenever the main quest came up I was bored out of my mind. I think I would have enjoyed the game more if it was just a sandbox.
I think the runaway success of astrobot for the PS5 has got execs watering at the mouth. If It’s as good as astrobot then I don’t think 10bucks is all that crazy either.
Today I’ve reported a player in Marvel Rivals for being a cheater (it was obvious to me, even autoaim through wall playing hawkeye). And I just got a confirmation message that the player is banned until 2125… basically a 100 year ban. :D Do report them. Report toxicity as well (I get ton of confirmation). But do not report...
I mean i guess it worked, overwatch is pretty happy community right now (by online game standards), least in my experience. Although I think the bigger thing is toxic players are first to leave for other games, like rivals.
Seems like all the way on the other end of the spectrum of Kingdom Come deliverance 2. Might pick this up after I’m done with Kingdom Come.
the lack of stealth is a bit of a turn off for me personally, but the hand placed events and mobs seems like a big plus.
Does anyone know if the game is viable without any companions? The reviews I have seen seem to complain about them a lot and I already dislike AI teammates.
My switch 1 is gathering dust, mostly because of the awful controllers. Looks like they made the controllers bigger, and the magnetic slide looks much better than the switch1. I hope they significantly reduced the stick drift problem. I hope they allow 3rd party controllers to turn on the device.
Not to be overly negative, but what are fans playing for these days? I only played the original 2 games and the (first?) North American one.
It seems people hate the modern stories, the gameplay is shallow at best and it’s parkour has been far surpassed by many other games by now. The games are very often used as examples of modern AAA studios having no creativity and just churning out the same game over and over. The games look beautiful and I’ve heard the educational versions are pretty useful, but what are the primary draw these days?
Again I don’t want to be a hater, that’s just what I’ve picked up from other people talking about it.
I believe that while steam has public APIs for most stuff but there’s no way for a 3rd party client to provide DRM authentication, so the majority of games will not launch unless you also have the official steam client installed (note that steam does have a cli client)., rendering any 3rd party apps either simple wrappers for steam or severely limited.
there’s plenty of “ugly” games here’s some I’ve played recently that came out this year:
UFO 50: A collection of new games in the style (mechanically and visually) of the 8bit games. 8 bit graphics
Balatro: A GOTY nominee, it’s a roguelike that is extremely loosely based on poker. modern pixel art style static images
Children of the sun: a puzzle game where you are a sniper that bends and deflects bullets to kill whole rooms of people with 1 bullet. Graphics are pretty imo but not advanced.
Echo Point Nova: a movement focused shooter. games plays on a potato. There is technically a a ray tracing option, but I think it’s more of a future proofing thing/a personal interest of the dev.
Outer wilds felt really good to play, optimistic nihilism and a happy lonliness. One moment that really stood out to me was when I followed a certain object out of the solar system, spent pretty much 20minutes drifting in space listening to the other astronauts play together planets apart and watching the stars
spoilerWatching the stars slowly blink out and realizing that I won’t be able to save the sun, that it’s the whole universe going away. Givining in to the inevitability of it all ending and just watching everything end.
It’s one of the most peaceful times I’ve had with a game, and playing it in the middle of covid I cried happy tears. Go in as blind as you can.
The names aren’t terrible by themselves but it really sucks that the critically acclaimed narrative space puzzler “outerwilds” released the same month as the open world space rpg “outerworlds”.
That’s a lot of work on twitches side to keep it hushed which makes this weirder.
I don’t think that’s weird, twitch really doesn’t want the pr of being wrong or having a pedo on their platform, its a lose-lose and I would expect them to try and cover it up regardless.
Helldivers with friends have been fun, don’t think I’ll ever play with randos tho.
I picked “the swindle” back up with the intent of 100%, just got to win in 1 life, which is challenging but easier than I expected since you start making huge amounts of cash as your win streak increases. Highly recommend this game it’s got a lot of replability for what is a fairly simple game.
I also started “chronoark” it’s a deck builder roguelike. Story seems a little too verbose at times and I think I may have to ramp the difficulty a bit (I got a fun meta cut scene for winning my first run and breaking the story) which might be why I feel like I’m spending more time in story than playing. Still having fun so far.
The thing with the 3 new countries seems to be a fix by valve, you might notice that there were several invalid country codes in the previous restricted list.
I prefer Dpad for platforming and top down as being able to move precisely diagonal is more important than speed control, plus the analogue stick wears out quicker and dpad allows switching directions faster. Analogue for driving and therpy gamess
This is either wrong or misleading. Women make up 48% of gamers. That isn’t quite a majority, but men certainly aren’t dominating either. When you throw race as a demographic into this maybe it changes or maybe they just relied on how they feel about it, but I think it’s misleading either way.
They use the chest trick because saves reworking the inventory and container system. That would take time and left the game almost the same, so they don’t.
And if they used a new engine they would have to rework the inventory and container system, and if they did that perhaps they would innovate on that system in some way since they are making big changes anyway.
AAA is a title that is applied to studios not games. Larian is an independent studio, a big independent studio but still no where near the big giant companies. Compare them to insomniac, who is behind spiderman 2. Their budget was 3x larians, they are also part of a much larger conglomerate (sony), and they usually are creating several games with the scope of spiderman at once, leading to a release schedule every 1-2 years. Larian is releasing on a much longer schedule closer to 3-6yrs, they are less able to multitask. Larian studios have only produced 9 games across 2 franchises (baulders gate and divinity) while insomniac has ~40 games across 4+ franchises. BG3 was also a much riskier project than spiderman2, it was larian really betting the farm on something big compared to a pretty typical cash in from insomniac. They also don’t waste money on stuff like buying a kpop group (like blizzard, epic or riot), running cons etc etc.
I think larian fits in with CD project red and other AA studios than with AAA studios like activision and insomniac. At the end of the day it’s a fuzzy term though without a strict definition.
And to be clear this is not at all a knock on larian studios, or BG3.
They don’t have continuous revenue streams like a live service
Yet. The game seems extremely easy to monetize, up to them how evil they go. To be successful longterm (if thats something they even want) they will need to add more content first but they could cash in in so many ways. Dlc, selling servers, cosmetics or more nefarious stuff lkke boosters to speed up mechanics, pals that take huge grinds without payments. It would be very easy to do.
People have been looking for Pokémon replacement for years, anything even slightly innovating on the concept is going to do very well. It doesn’t have any microtransactions (yet?), it’s actively improving, has fully animated real time battles, a difficulty/complexity level appropiate for adults, decent coop and a pretty good sense of antiestablishment humour that I think works really well with the type of millennial that is sick of what Pokémon offers.
It is definitely rough, but I haven’t hit a show stopping bug in 13hrs (plenty of stuff like pals clipping through stuff of pathing fucking up though). If it’s kept regularly updated I could see myself putting a lot of hours into it. It’s definitely still an early access title but it’s eating Pokémons stale lunch.
The speedrun for this game ends with the end of act 2, if you haven’t gotten that far your good, but even then your probably not going to get much, it obviously skips most of the game.
When talking about the best games of all time people generally mention Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario 64, Halo 3, The Last of Us, Nier Automata, etc. , but dismiss other great games....
I can tell dozens of stories of buggy hilarious moments in oblivion stories that are memorable and unique. All I remember from vanilla skyrim are the official plots everyone went through. It was just as buggy just charmless.
What a wonderful multinational corporation, spending all this money out of the goodness of their heart! It’s moves like this that let me know I can trust Microsoft™
I think the goal is to eat market share away from Steam, once users are too invested in the platform to switch (and/or steam is no longer relevant) then they start hiking the prices. It has the added effect of reducing the switch to linux momentum that the steamdeck started, but perhaps that is still too small to get MS’s attention
I see darkest dungeon 2 is on sale. I remember being excited to play it on release before seeing it was an exclusive, so I might pick it up on sale now.
So far I kinda like it. I got major decision paralysis late game in DD1 because I was afraid of screwing up my whole campaign whenever I took a break. I like that the consequences of failure seem more localized in DD2. I can see why that would annoy people who really like the original.
【Any PS3/Xbox 360 games that sound great with surround sound?】
I just setting up home theatre in my room and both the PS3 and Xbox 360 has been in my room and I hadn't fully played on them for years.
I know about any games would do but is there like a certain one that just stands out?
Yeah I don’t really like the series but the sound of a rocket launcher whizzing by your head was incredible. According to Google the multi-player is still hanging on too.
I’m having a lot of fun,. The performance stuff is a non-issue for me, I haven’t spent much time looking at my fps but it hoveslrs at 45 or so (6800xt+3800xt, at 5120x1440, all setting on high except i disabled volumetic fog, tilt shift and motion blur), the sim speed seems fine. I only played vanilla cs1 and this seems to have added a lot, but not sure how that compares to the dlcs. I like how much more complex the demand for different zones are and the car systems seem greatly improved. Natural disasters was something I definitely missed in cs1 so it’s nice to see that. The graphics are a huge step up.overall just about every system seems to have been improved in some way. There seem to be legit incentive to make a dirty city, I felt making a polution free city was a littke too easy in cs1, now there are much more significant tradeoffs. A general theme seems to be that the city changes and grows over time, whereas in cs1 I often felt I could setup some districts for life right away. It feels like the city grows much more realistically and organically now.
On the negative side of things, a lot of the Twitter posts don’t seem to make sense, someone will complain about crime and then I’ll zoom in and they are super happy in a 0 crime area, I’m also pretty sure my commercial districts are bugged to always report not enough customers despite showing signs of success otherwise, and a lot of my busses seem to run all their buses at once rather than being spaced out. Every now and again a hearse/ambulance/firetruck gets stuck and won’t ever get to its destination despite a clear path. Its really finicky to attach pipes/power to something that consumes it. The radio is repetitive and often plays conflicting stories one after another. These are minor gripes but certainly annoying.
I have about 10hrs and I reckon I’ll put at least a 100 more. If the game never got another patch it would be fine and enjoyable, knowing it will have long term support makes me quite excited for it.
I don’t really understand how people make the review threads, but we’re sitting at a 77 on OpenCritic right now. It sounds like the game is mostly a solid release except for the...
Games like this are also pretty palatable at low framerates imo, certainly much better than an fps or something. If the gameplay is solid I’ll definitely pick it up. I like to have it as a second monitor game.
I’d much rather play the game in its current state than waiting 3 or 4 months, i have a pretty beefy system and i dont mind low framerates in a strategy game. If you don’t feel the same then don’t pick it up, wait the 3 or 4 months and enjoy it then.
Yeah I play a lot of rimworkd and dwarffortress and to be honest the only difference between playing it on my of the line pc and my 10yr old laptop is that it takes way longer to do stuff at max speed, which isn’t really how I play games like this. This review kinda sold me on this game.
I’ve been thinking about making this thread for a few days. Sometimes, I play a game and it has some very basic features that are just not in every other game and I think to myself: Why is this not standard?! and I wanted to know what were yours....
I think you are in luck, most competitive shooters have it these days, I can’t really think of a big one that doesn’t, some are better than others though. Counterstrike, overwatch, warzone, fortnite, valorant, rainbow six all have them.
I generally want the opposite. If I alt tab while waiting for a long operation I want it to keep going while I’m tabbed out, and I especially want the music to continue so I don’t forget I have the game running
