@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I have an older pc that I use as a a Plex server so as soon as I get some time I will fully switch to Ubuntu.

Jumping to Linux just picking a distro

Make the jump to Linux and loose 90% of the games you play as well. If all you play is steam games and don’t care about many that can’t be played then sure. I get the appeal. But windows 11 is the same thing as 10.

y0kai,

90%?

Do you only play games with kernel level anti-cheat? Because those are literally the only games i haven’t been able to play, and fortunately for me I don’t want to play those games.

SolidShake,

I play many kinds of games. Using a Windows emulator in Linux doesn’t count as “running on Linux”

y0kai,

Lol what

DesolateMood,

Ha, get a load of this guy, he thinks wine is an emulator!

Link,

You should look up what Wine stands for.

DrSteveBrule,

If the game plays on your linux distro who cares what you call it?

communist,
@communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz avatar

Wine sometimes gains performace over windows though, so why do you care?

It's 2025, not 2007. This is a huge exaggeration. Maybe try it again sometime.

SolidShake,

I might when the DAWs I use will work natively.

Random123,

Yeah you definitely didn’t play on Linux for more than 5 minutes

SolidShake,

I use DAWs, havent had luck with wine not crashing games. So yes. You MUST be right, haven’t used Linux at all actually. Just saw a word document about it. God you people are the worst

kittenzrulz123,

Pretty much, 1% of games don’t work on Linux and its the top 1% most popular games

SolidShake,

My problem is 100% of the DAWs I use don’t work on Linux

kittenzrulz123,

Yeah, sometimes there are software that just won’t have a Linux version. Thats to be expected because Linux isnt a Windows clone so itll never run all Windows software. If that software is important to you I would reccomend just installing Windows 11.

I tried it a few months ago but had issues with various games and lowered performance in almost all of them. I still don't know if I will just cave in and upgrade to win11 or try linux again, i've got a free partition waiting but the issue is lack of time and motivation to dive into troubleshooting the OS on a daily basis

Installed kubuntu on the laptop so I can get used to it. Still trying to find a AV and firewall app I like

ClamAV, if you want more than just common sense. Firewall is built-in to kubu.

Rozz, do games w What open-world games on Steam have satisfying movement, like Arkham Knight or Spider-Man?

Tchia - it is a relaxing game, but I enjoyed it when I needed a break from intense games or intense life.

You can sail a boat, swim, glide, slide down hills, flip through the air AND transform into object and animals. When you are an object you can hop and throw yourself. When you are an animal you can do whatever they do, fly swim, run, see in the dark, poop on people, break coconuts, and more.

For some time I used Minecraft as a mindnumbing tool. I dug a huge underground structure with stone pickaxes. I had some chests of wood down there to make new pickaxes, chests, and torches, and dug an underground space of several square kilometers, 30ish layers high.

I used to just cruise around in The Crew, enjoying a chill ride around

Dying Light’s movement is phenomenal, a must play IMO due to its awesome parkour movement systten.

Almost all of them. Including the game of life.

I think it’s cool. Just another Mario kart game. Updated graphics and world exploring is neat. I would be loving this game if I was 10. In my thirties? Nah. $$$

Latching on to your Lovecraftian recommendations I’d like to put forth Skald: Against the Black Priory, which should presumably also run excellently on the Steam Deck. Keep an eye out for it during the sale, it’s a great tribute to retro CRPGs and has a wonderfully gloomy lovecraftian vibe.

You’ll like it I think, I played it earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Great vibe, good story, beautiful pixel art and a great retro feel without the clunk of actual retro games 😄 Cool world building too.

emergencybird, do games w Anyone else quit S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 to play Anomaly?

I got annoyed when they sent me to the swamps to turn off some psy antennas. Felt like too much distance between each antenna, psy storms would happen very often and there wasn’t anything to hide in to wait out the storm. Managed to get that last antenna off and now the objective is another long walk across the map, right through an area crawling with bloodsuckers. I’m fine with the long walks, I know fast travel is available for certain points on the map and I use it when I can. But man, I just can’t comprehend why bloodsuckers are everywhere in this game and why they take so much ammo to take down. Dropped the game and have been playing the mass effect trilogy
