Zerfallen, do games w Which Mortal Kombat games across the years should I start with?

MK2 was my first, and i still think it’s one of the best, or the most classic. MK1, the roster is too small and it’s too basic. MK2 is where it embraces the classic MK vibes. UMK3 remixes that with more modern styling and character elements, which was interesting in progression, but I think you could skip straight from MK2 to Trilogy and just drop in the deep end of the character craziness.

MK4 was also an interesting one in terms of characters and the shift into 3D for the first time. It wasn’t… great… but it was interesting.

After that, I wasn’t a big fan of the early modern 3D MK games, I couldn’t even play them all since they didn’t come out for PC (yes, I’m still bitter), but again I feel like you could skip these straight to Armageddon for early modern-era character craziness. It’s basically a generational sequel to Trilogy.

Then we get to the ‘last gen’ modern era of 9, X, 11, which i thought were great fun, and worth playing. The story is a ridiculous soap opera, but that’s critical MK DNA. Mechanics further refined, good character options. Other people already discussed these.

I haven’t played 1 yet, but it’s clearly another soft reboot, and looks really good to me.

Ofc this is all just my view on it. I have nostalgia and bias towards MK2, (3) and Trilogy :D

Since people have already covered the modern games, I’ll offer two classic suggestions: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

4 was my first & had a good time with it. there are a couple rpg spinoffs, otherwise 9 is a good starting point for the modern reboot

BurningnnTree, do gaming w Feel like a weak year for games?

I assume you’re talking specifically about upcoming games that haven’t been released yet? Yeah I can’t really think of anything coming up that I’m excited about. Currently the only games I’m looking forward to are Metroid Prime 4 (if it ever comes out) and the indie game Dreamsettler (the sequel to Hypnospace Outlaw)

Just finished Rain World.

What a brave game to make. It is not afraid to scare players away. I admit, I ended up having to look up a map in order to find the ending before I threw my PC out the window entirely, but I acknowledge I was not in the right mindset to be playing. You cannot play the game to finish it, you must enjoy the gameplay for what it is, because it is not going to funnel you through the story at all, and you’re going to have a LOT of deaths that feel like total bullshit.

But the atmosphere, and the sound design, and the art, and the creatures, and their AI, and the world building are all top tier. I don’t know if I can recommend anyone play it, but it is a very well made game.

Finally picked up ghost of tsushima and started playing through it. Reminds me of RDR2

Vodulas,

One of the prettiest games in recent memory. Except for…

::: spoiler Final act spoiler The only thing that slightly annoyed me was that there is no snow on Tsuahima island. They took so much care with the rest of the game, even visiting the island, then they put a snowy winter on a subtropical island.:::

Started Cyberpunk 2077 this week.

Cyberpunk 2077The prologue was just amazing and it was a whole acid trip for a half an hour. I kinda felt Jackie would die because it was kinda hinted with the conversation V and he had before the heist but it was still sad. “See you in major leagues”. Damn. And it doesn’t stop there lol, now my mc is a schizophrenic and talks to Keanu Reeves in his head. This game is perfect but I hope it has more heists like the one in prologue and isn’t just a revenge story.

If you're really enjoying yourself I'd considering picking up Phantom Liberty as well. I played through the main game shortly after it came out on PS5. I was very 'meh' about it. But I recently picked up Phantom Liberty and started a whole new game, I probably doubled my play time, and still spent 4-5 hours after I'd finished all the story missions, just bumming around bc I was still so enamored of it. The story missions in Phantom Liberty are, in my opinion, better, bigger, and more emotional than the main game.

spiderman,

should I start playing it after finishing the main game?

I've heard people say you should start a new game. Which I did. But I think you'd be ok to jump in if you wanted. There's a new neighborhood that it mostly takes place in. To start it, you have to complete some main game story mission about 3/4 of the way in, if I remember correctly.

spiderman,

Okay, I will check about that. Thanks.

Path of Exile! I began with a minion sacrifice build, and while it’s good and I’ve killed all the major basic bosses sustain is hurting so I swapped into a BAMA build, and let me tell you haters of the Maw build, it clears faster than Bama because ignite is broken in Poe.

Also playing Necropolis league of Path of Exile. Started with an explosive arrow totem build but it wasn't great for levelling, so rerolled an exploding minions witch. Much much smoother so far, and should scale right through maps for currency farming. Will see how invested I stay, as I'm waiting patiently for S4 of D4 to hit consoles, some really nice updates, and basically its more approachable than PoE.
