I thought this was a joke but it seems like it’s actually legit. WoW, which has a subscription and paid expansions, just added a $90 item to their store. This is Korean MMO levels of absurdity. What do you think of this?...
I’m really frustrated with how almost every new game these days is being forced into this “live service” model. It seems like no matter what type of game you want to play—whether it’s an RPG, shooter, or even something traditionally single-player—you’re stuck with always-online requirements. And for what? It adds...
We all are, but people keep paying them money. It won’t stop until people get their heads out of their asses and stop doing that. Kind of like how microtransactions won’t go away because whales won’t stop shoveling dump trucks of money at mobile games.
It’s really easy to pander to the Chinese audience when you’re a Chinese developer telling the same one Chinese myth yet again.
I mean seriously, if you add up every game, show, or movie based on all the myths of Robin Hood, King Arthur, and every Grimm fairy tale combined You wouldn’t have as many productions as there are Journey to the West adaptations, it’s ridiculous. Hell even Disney went with something different when they made Mulan.
Exec 1: Should we do research into what gamers want to play?
Exec 2: Nah, just smush together whatever everybody else is doing, slap on a new coat of paint, and then ship that shit. The idiots will eat it up and we’ll be rich.
Gamers: Who asked for this? I didn’t ask for this. I don’t want to play this shit. I’ve got better shit that I can play for free.
Runescape is jacking up their subscription prices next month, going from like 12 bucks to 14 bucks a month. The increases range from 20% to 56% in price depending on currency. Players are PISSED about it especially since the company got bought out by some investment firm earlier this year, and they see it as a shameless cash...
I totally agree. I recently bought on sale Final Fantasy 1 for mobile, mostly because I didn’t feel like digging out my PlayStation and putting in one of the original remastered disks. To be honest, the load times were pretty long on a kind of it being PS1. But the prices they’re asking for for all of these remasters are excessive. Also some of them have 3D instead of pixel sprites; FF4:TAY in particular was ruined that way. You know what I’d like to see; all of the newer Final Fantasy is done in pixel art style. Like from 7 onward. That would be fun.
Another article that highlighs inherent flaws in the American legal system. How can this potentially be an actual lawsuit? How can “journalists” even entertain reporting on this?...
This is like suing an MMO because you want to solo raid dungeons so you can enjoy the content without having to play multiplayer.
Don’t get me wrong, their opinion is fine. But the lawsuit is idiotic. Just do what the rest of us do when we’re screwed over by circumstance and choices: build a bridge and get over it.
The only circumstance I could see a “too hard” lawsuit maybe possibly hypothetically working out is if the customer was disabled. They might have a slim chance if they could use the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) to sledgehammer the game developer with. I personally don’t believe it would work, but I’m not a lawyer so what the hell do I know.
It’s more likely a cost benefit analysis. Fighting the Unions is lawyer expensive and PR expensive. Gamers are noisy after all, when riled up. Microsoft is evil, but also like Trump, they understand optics.
Well large corporations are at least 50% dead weight by volume, weighted overwhelmingly in management and at the executive level. So naturally it’s the ones doing all the ACTUAL work who get terminated whenever the line isn’t going up hard enough. Capitalism folks, it’s doomed us all and there’s no way we can fix it and those who could never will.
What’s interesting to me is of course how cheaply Bioshock got made compared to today’s blockbuster hits. Somewhere, we took the wrong turn in regards to modern game development, truly....
Yeah it’s amazing what you can accomplish when you’re not blowing millions of dollars on the salaries & golden parachutes of completely worthless executives.
That’s Australia. They have weird anti-violence laws, and God-fucking-forbid anyone learn that blood exists. I think their stupid drug portrayal laws are why the first Fallout had to call them “chems” instead. It’s all pretty stupid moral crusade bullshit.

They REALLY missed the boat on this one. Maybe if it was 8 years ago. Nobody’s gonna care now. Minecraft is old and leans too hard on bedrock, nevermind that it was PC early adopters that made it what it is. This is the problem with success; it makes good indie stuff with potential into sold-out corporate trash. Happens all the time and Minecraft is no different. Eventually it’ll get sold off to some holding company in Romania or something and be deleted from the Internet.
It’s especially weird to have all that time dedicated to something nobody cares about. Who goes looking to see if a game or movie was made using Dolby?
The keywords here are “copycat,” “clones,” and “shovelware.”
Just like how there’s a million versions of the same shit phone games that are just trash clones of something from the app stores or even old flash games like we’re on pre-sellout Kongregate and Armor Games.
