Company Heroes 2 in Hard difficulty. The AI in RTS single player games tend to simply swarm you. I have to tone down the difficulty but there is little sense of satisfaction in playing easier modes.

I like seeing the up-n-coming consoles, and emulation becoming easier again :D Loved the Steam Delivery Girl mascot, she was very cool, and seeing what she would look like IRL is very interesting.

Played some Overwatch 2 Stadium mode. It’s kinda underwhelming I guess?

Comments described the mode as super crazy, with all the powers you can get, but it doesn’t feel much different, since normal OW also added passives, that you unlock during a match. There are also not that many characters enabled for the mode yet, which doesn’t help, because there are just one or two characters per role I want to play. With superfast rounds, it does feel faster than normal OW, but the whole match takes 20-30 minutes, except giga stomps, that can be over in only 10 minutes.

Since the matchmaker is also terrible as always, games just don’t go to 7 rounds, so you don’t get all of your upgrades. I played 11 matches, 9 of them were had a 4-1 scoreline or worse (3-0 or 4-0), wins or losses. Only two went to 4-2. Stadium is treated as a ranked mode and has no casual queue, so maybe once you’ve climbed some time, the matchmaking gets better, but each role has a separate rank, and I always flex, so that could take a while.

I think I’ll just go back to normal Quick Play.

Play Halo 1 on easy, no shooting allowed, only melee, and speed run it.

If you can get past its extremely questionable social issues, I’ve never played a co-op combat game as well designed and implemented as resident evil 5. It forces you to work together in a variety of challenges and unexpected ways. It keeps you both focused on mutual goals. And if you don’t work together with situational awareness and effective communication, you will not succeed. I really wish it sold better because I’ve never seen a company since put as much effort into co-op design except maybe the “it takes two” and “a way out” guy. But those aren’t shooters.

Your mileage may vary, but there’s a bug on the PC version that causes a boss to regenerate health tied to the frame rate. It happened to a friend and me, and we watched it happen to two other friends. Higher frame rates cause it to regen faster. There’s a way you can cheese the fight to get around this, but maybe the method would be a spoiler.

(Also, I thought this game was bad and not in an interesting way like its successor is, but once again, your mileage may vary.)

Andonyx,

I can certainly understand not liking it. Besides it’s offensive social takes, it’s definitely not what a typical Resident Evil game is supposed to be. But a buddy and I spent years trying to find good coop game experiences and as far as games that actually sculpt and tend to the coop part as opposed to just throwing a coop mode in at the last moment, very few come anywhere close to the effort to put into this one. On harder difficulties it’s actually a really interesting challenge that’s not just about bullet sponges or grinding for better gear but about strategy and effective teamwork.

I guess I just don’t see what it offered that Gears of War didn’t, and I thought Gears was much better.

The deck is actually a little more expensive overall: You cannot detatch the controllers. Need to buy a 3rd party if you don’t want to always play handheld (most 3rd party will work though) Doesn’t come with a deck (any usb-c to HDMI dongle should work)

Besides that, if you have a big steam library already , it’s pretty amazing. Cities Skyline isn’t very steam deck friendly though.

I’m thinking of going back and replaying the original Watch_Dogs with The Living City mod.

Looks pretty fun and breathes a bunch of life into a game I actually really enjoyed, which I know others found boring or disappointing.

EDIT: With the hindsight of having played WD2 with all its wacky antics, I forgot how seriously this game takes itself. Jesus.

Nintendo is going to lose alot of gamers this generation, they have gotten too greedy.

thermal_shock,

One can hope. Subscription just to backup saves is what fucked me up.

Steam Deck

Jtskywalker, do games w Steamdeck or....

I love the steam deck. I haven’t used my switch for anything other than family Mario kart since I got it. I really like having access to PC games, especially at steam sale prices, which makes the deck a lot cheaper in the long run vs Nintendo games that never go on sale. Even Pokémon games that are years old are still full price when they’re 2 or 3 releases behind in the series.

The only thing I prefer about the switch is physical cartridges. The deck wins in every other category for me.

BigPotato,

As someone with a primarily physical Switch library and more than 100 Switch games, the Switch cartridges aren’t even satisfying to put in and harder to store or display than consoles of old.

Even the 3DS just feels easier and more substantial. So, despite the Deck’s lack of a cartridge slot, I don’t even think the Deck really loses.

Jtskywalker,

That’s a good point. Also with it being a PC, you can keep a library of DRM free games on an sd card or something and kind of get the same thing. Limited on what games you can do this with officially though. DRM is the worst

That SteamOS compatible icon came to my Bazzite mini PC just before I brought it along with me for Combo Breaker. I suppose that leads into what I’ve been playing.

I competed in Guilty Gear Strive (0-2, sadly), Street Fighter 6 (2-2, which is better than I should have done given how little I practiced), and Skullgirls (a hard fought 3-2). Unless Street Fighter 6 gets a killer patch in the next few days with Elena’s release, I think this is where I depart the Street Fighter train.

I also played some Devil May Cry 4 on the plane, and I’ll likely do so again on the way back. I would have continued my save of Tales from the Borderlands, but I found out just before leaving that it doesn’t have cloud saves. I’ll continue with that and Kingdom Come: Deliverance back at my desktop at home.
